A perfect turn of phrase. It took me about 2 minutes to fall in love with it and in some curious way, it's anti everything that the world seems to currently be about.
Johnny Flynn and Mackenzie Crook were in the play "Jerusalem" together. Johnny played a character called Lee Piper, which is probably where he got the name Johnny Piper for this clip. I like stuff like that!
Great, simple but meaningful song. Neat that they wrote the scene into the show to share that wonderful, haunting theme with us in full. It's a cool series if you have not watched it.
what a superb series. a woman glances at another woman's name scrawled on a beer mat and then at her pregnancy result. Heartbreak and not a word uttered. 'Show Don't Tell' at its absolute best.
From a regular open miker myself. That look thats on the faces of the guys after hearing Johnny nail the song and thinking ,follow that. Oh we`ve all been there
you bastard this is so deep it reaches the soul of humanity thank you for breaking my heart. please continue to success because you remind of us of your humanity. Thank you.
Because this concept and implementation requires thinking. If you're just thinking then you're not making money in the moment. That's the reason this gem of a show could never originate in the US.
SPOILER: They discovered Stonehenge was actually a landing strip for the Nazca lines. Weird coincidence too, all Saxon life actually originally comes from Guildford and the Vikings were a manifestation of a Roald Dhal novel. My spelling is semi-accurate but I am 1/25th Zulu. Anyway enjoy the BA', New Years Eve and explaining the psychos to the actually clever folk from up above haha
May I recommend my own book here? “Detecting Allusions in Mackenzie Crook’s DETECTORISTS - An Illustrated Guide”. Including the 2022 Christmas Special. 160 pages, 57 illustrations, index.
Can someone help me figure out how to play the part at 0:23 (which returns just after 0:27)? There are two chords played in rapid succession, but I just can't seem to figure out which they are and how to pick them. Thanks! :)
Ste's right. Playing those shapes in quick succession is the trickiest part of this song but satisfying to nail it. Johnny capos up from a drop D tuning but the trick I see on RUclips tutorials is to just capo five strings and leave the low E free. It's simpler, easier, and sounds no different so I'm left wondering why Johnny does it his way.
@@jfq7223 ah, it's not easier to play. It's just simpler to capo five strings so you can play the low E string uncapoed in standard tuning. rather than capo all six from drop D tuning and detune the low string from F capoed back to E which is what I think's happening here.
One of the best tv shows ever. I miss it so much. I just re watch it every so often and binge and relax 😌 ☺️
freshest air i've breathed in a very long time, this show.

my cousin said that it was like a warm hug the end of every episode , she was right

Me too, how about when Mackenzie drank the lemonade and he pulls his right eye open. Seems like a nod to his character in the Pirates movies.
@@sgtpepper1138 def I noticed that too
i didn’t notice that! i saw it in the theatre. wish they’d made a film of it.
The lyrics are so evocative
My favourite is
I'm with the ghosts of the men who will never sing again
Just finished the 3rd series - Nothing short of genius . Makes you smile makes you cry
They just finished filming a new Detectorists production.
love Johnny Flynn, saw him in Ripley and discovered he can sing and write, genius!!!!
I agree. I've just finished watching Ripley. What an incredibly talented guy.
Absolute treat seeing Johnny Flynn playing that pub gig on the series, he is so brilliant, his talent seems endless! great series by the way.

That's the most beautiful meta I've ever experienced.
Makes you feel good about life
I wake up to this as my morning alarm clock👍
What a great song from a great TV show.
Utterly breathtaking song.
From a regular open miker myself. That look thats on the faces of the guys after hearing Johnny nail the song and thinking ,follow that. Oh we`ve all been there
Oh s***
This is so funny
Just came to make the same comment haha.
Its the "Will anyone notice , if I sneak out of the back door" , face .
Great song performed brilliantly by the composer. It just matched the whole sentiment of the TV series superbly well. Thank you.
At the same time Johnny Flynn was on the other channel phoning his exes after having an STI. Two great shows
Great show, great song ❤
you bastard this is so deep it reaches the soul of humanity thank you for breaking my heart. please continue to success because you remind of us of your humanity. Thank you.
Beautiful. What a truly lovely song, lovely series.
0:20 to 0:49 is possibly my favourite bit of any series ever.
Lol yeah the look Andy gives to lance.. As if to say, oh shit what have we done, this guy is way better than us 😂
I saw Detectorists suggested on Acorn a long time ago and kept putting it off. Wish I hadn't - it's a gem. (Or....should I say 'gold'?)
marvellous stuff, great song, great TV series
Perfection on so many levels
Nice that they included this 👍🏼
Love this. Genuine folk song. There arent too many real ones being written. At least not enough anyway 😃👍
Love this song, and the series Detectorists , Best wishes P
Love the bit where Andy looks at Lance.............Ooooooooh s**t ..........................
Andy’s face is wonderful. His gradual change of face into absolute misery when he hears just how good Johnny is is masterful
@@lizziedripping71 such a talent ....love him !
Absolutely beautiful
I'm In love.
Love him 💕💖💕💖💕💖
15 seconds of brilliant acting starting at 1:08
She's so good so lovely very natural seen her in a few things
I've said it many times - Rachael didn't receive anything like the praise she deserved for her work in this series. She was brilliant.
Johnny Flynn brilliant in The Outfit on netflix
Why can't Hollywood make shows like this?
Because this concept and implementation requires thinking. If you're just thinking then you're not making money in the moment. That's the reason this gem of a show could never originate in the US.
I think 90% is because of McKenzie Crook and his personality
Just FYI, they just finished filming the new Detectorists production.
How is that even relevant? We aren’t in America, thank goodness.
Follow that
Beautiful moment and tune
