Kinda ridiculous to need a dev exit for a level whose biggest obstacle is not being able to see. You'd think the level creator would have the biggest advantage when it comes to clearing that considering he placed everything. If he can't even be asked to remember his level seconds after clearing it, he truly doesn't deserve to have it cleared legitimately.

Sometimes a dev exit is necessary due to poor level design and how checkpoints work. However the creator shouldnt have used it for the clear check and completed the level from the beginning the intended way.

at 22:30 There some cheese in the last level, after you collect the 2nd shell-mat, you can come back and take damage then walk off the spike with the cloud gap into the door

last level can be cheesed. you can get to the spring drop part very early through the cloud block

@nigrimarket What I was wondering was whether it would be possible to go through the level normally up until the door for the spring drop, then jump back through the clouds and grab the helmet. Turn the spring drop through the door into a shell jump.
Problem is, I don't know if you could get back through the clouds without using the helmet to damage boost, even with the spring as a tool. Or if a shell jump would be possible based on how far the wall is from the door on the spring drop part.
After writing all this out, I'm thinking it wouldn't actually be possible. Just wishful thinking.

At the end of the last level, weren't you supposed to step on the P switch and then throw the spring to get to the blocks on the right side of the screen (that used to be coins)?
On the last course, was that dark blue block you lined up the fall next to the thwomp a p-switch block? Maybe the spring jump was another troll and you were supposed to trigger the thwomp and wait on the platform for the p-switch to get hit then jump over the spike wall?
Nope, the green door next to the yellow pipe at the start takes you to the flagpole concealed by a note block. You need something to stand on. Probably have to time landing on that shelmet you toss at the pipe and the yellow pipe is to reset for multiple tries? There are a bunch of hidden blocks with springs next to the 3 note blocks in the beginning also, but not sure how you can hit one without getting trapped.
Not sure why there is a bomb-omb in one of the blocks to the right of the saw by the second shelmet either. This level is just a mess.
I was able to get one of those springs by grabbing the shelmet and throwing it upwards while bouncing on the edge of the right note block only to find out you can't enter the door while bouncing on a spring.
26:19 Ryu you could easily cheese it. There is gap in the claud where you can slip in with the mashrum.

That AWESOME level which ended at around 21 minutes in was friggin' fantastic, but it's obvious that only high-level players could figure it out. DANG. O.o
I liked the haunted house level. But it's actually bad level design if it takes trial and error to know what jump is required.. If this were a more intuitive level, it would've been great. Now it's just okay imo..
If rumors are to be believed, Nintendo will release and update soon that will limit you to 3 pauses per level. I suspect this is mainly targeted at Ryu as he seems to be the only one abusing it.

It's amazing that still to this day, people will whinge about dev exits. You don't have to be good at the game to be good at level design, and dev exits allow good designers who are bad at the game a way to get their great levels uploaded. Just shows how petty the community of this game is, I guess.
If they’re not good enough to clear the level, then there’s no way they can properly and fully test the level. Requiring clear checking is important for quality assurance!
The level creator does not need to be good at the game in order to be able to design good levels. You're right about that. But that's also not the point.
By putting a dev exit in your level (assuming it is a real dev exit and not a troll), you effectively announce to the player, "the level is probably fine. the dev exit works 100% though."
However, by actually playing through your level through it's entirety, and by not putting a dev exit in your level, then what you announce to the player is, "i know for a fact that my level is beatable."
If you can't be bothered to play your own level, then neither can I. It's not petty. It's reality.

That being said, it would actually be really cool if OTHER people were able to clear check your level. Then talented level creators who aren't that good at the game actually _would_ be able to show off their levels, and they could do so without compromising the trust between the level creator and the player. This is something I would really like to see in the future.
you can make literally impossible levels but have a dev exit that only you know about. that is very cheap and fradulent

we don't care about the high score, we just need to use it to find levels to clear for 25 minutes of content.
he doesn't need to clear 6 arbitrary levels to secure a score for a win or something.
the 'lives' aspect is moot. he could go in there, skip 6 levels then take them out and play them without the life counter slowing things down.
aside from selecting the levels, the super expert challenge of SMM2 doesn't really matter.

I suspect that the trick to that last level was to throw the spring before jumping off the wall and catching up to it.
