  • Arc Furnaces and argon oxygen decarburization (AOD) both offer efficient and environmentally friendly ways to produce high-quality steel and other metals.
An arc furnace melts and refines scrap steel into new steel. MetalTek recycles millions of pounds of scrap steel each year across its divisions using arc furnaces. This reduces our reliance on raw materials while promoting sustainable business practices.
Argon oxygen decarburization (AOD) is a refining process to improve the properties of stainless steel and other ferrous alloys. AOD reduces the carbon content of metals and improves properties such as corrosion resistance, strength, and heat resistance.
Watch this video to learn more about the advantages of arc furnaces and AOD and how they benefit MetalTek’s customers.

2:51 Top pouring introduces excessive oxidation and agitation, and carries with it any floating lower density impurities. I thought modern foundries all switched to bottom pouring.

Does it really matter when you're casting a normal mold? Ultra cleanliness is only really possible with a BOF anyway. Do foundries even do bottom pouring with ladles that small?
