Thanks a bunch Matthew! I was born in 1963 and in 1978 Cheap Trick, Police, Cars, Clash, Jam, Blondie and others were all breaths of fresh rock n roll air that year in the world of DISCO RULES! LOL that said, I now like disco ha but in 1978. no way jose!
Live at Budokhan kicks ass and had killer live renditions of their songs. loved "C'mon C'mon" compared to slower studio version, "ain't that a shame" was usually not truncated to 3 mins, and "I want you to want me" was almost the perfect single for 1979 spring. All of my friends in 10th grade listened to this album every day!

I'm right along side you Russ. I was 15 yrs old when the Cheap Trick (1977) album arrived and it changed my whole perspective on what's cool. That first album of theirs is crunchy, chunky w/ a little dark sauce poured into it. Sex Pistols, Dead Boys, Damned, Ramones, Blondie...and more, were all swirling around the underground at that from away from mainstream and informed my tastes from that point on. SO much good music from the alt underground those days. Will not / do not do mainstream since. Always looking for new stuff. CT might be considered 'classic rock' these days yet from the start their earthy melodic blend of Who/Beatles gave me my wakeup from the 'cock-rock' bands of those times. Forever Fan. J_

Love Cheap Trick and pretty much agree with your ranking. Let's face it: most groups who've been together as long as they have rest on their laurels and turn into a tribute band. Yet Cheap Trick has continued to make new, great music for decades. Thank God the Rock Hall finally saw the light. And now in honor of this video shall now go change into my ROCKFORD tee-shirt. : ) Take care and stay safe!

I was at the Barclay Center at the HHoF induction ceremony in 2016 & actually was able to speak directly to Rick for about 5 minutes as I had purchased tickets that were labeled "blocked view" for $248 each. My seat was right next to the passageway to & from the pressroom &;as close to the stage that an upper level seat can be. The view wasn't really blocked except for the occasional swing of HBO's camera boom & like I may of mentioned was front row for the upper level. I got to see everything & everyone on the very cheap.
Rick, as always, loved to chat & bullshit. My boyfriend at the time was blown away how nice Rick was, taking the time to stop & talk for so long when there was so much going on. But we all know the boys have (generally) always continued to appreciate the fans even after hitting it big, must be the Midwestern upbringing in them.
It was so worth the trip to Bun E on the kit for the first time in eight years, bittersweet knowing all along that it would be the final time. At this point, it would take an act of God to see another such event. Only because it was the long coveted & so very well-deserved Hall of Fame could Robin bite the bullet & share the stage with old Bun. I'm sure it took a lot of booze for Robin to do it. And if you check the unedited footage, during Bun drum solo, Robin put his back to the audience & pissed on the kit. Unless you were upfront there really isn't a chance for most to see the stream, but you can tell the quick arm shake to fling the last drop off followed by the upward motion of zipping up. It was Robin's personalized FU for man welding the sticks. And, God bless him, Bun E didn't lose a beat, totally ignored Robin's inebriated behavior. Total professional.
And though it wasn't really apparent, Bun wasn't allowed to sit at the band's table on the floor right up front & center when not on or backstage. Bun E had to sit somewhere else that I could not seem to find.
That induction was the the only wild card that I can think of that would get Robin to tolerate.
Bun found out that "It's either him or me" ultimatums sometimes are the twig that signs your own walking papers. And Bun found out that having to sue to get the monies which are legitimately your due is the way to make one's divorce final.
A miracle of God or some unknown, as of yet unseen wild card would be the only way.
And should it ever happen, just like last time, I'll be screaming, "Where, when, I have to be there, don't care how much it costs. No problem". Gotta see my boys.

Hi Matt - Great video. Nice top pick. Not mine, but a welcome change of pace to see someone not just going w the debut like about 90% of the others I've seen. My clear favorite is In Color. Your observation about the production may be due to a decision to turn the band in a direction towards power pop and away from hard rock. The band has always manged to combine the two in varying degrees throughout their career. (Plus it has a top 5 CT song - Downed).
Dream Police - the song - was my intro to the band (first year HS) and I became a fan immediately. (The song is on my top 5 for the band.) The album itself is also on my top 5 but the very long and somewhat unmelodic Gonna Raise Hell hurts it overall for me. Still a classic, though. 😎
I have Next Position Please much higher than you do & higher than just about every reviewer I've heard. Yeah. I don't need to hear the guys cover Dancing the Night Away but the rest of the album makes up for that. Also it has another one of my top 5 CT songs - Invaders of the Heart.
I am right with you on Heaven Tonight and One on One. Fantastic albums. One on One never lets up from the first second to the last! Heaven Tonight has another one of my top 5 CT songs - Surrender.
Matt, I have not really given a chance to In Another World. The band kinda lost me after Bun E. left or was released or whatever. But based on your recommendation i will give it a close listen.
Take it easy, my friend. 😀

Wow. Special One at 20. It really is an underrated gem. I believe its on par with the first 5, 97, and WUWAM. And Busted so high? Also surprising. I think its their worst. That being said, there are no bad Cheap Trick albums.
    1. Cheap Trick (1977)
    2. Dream Police
    3. All Shook Up
    4. Heaven Tonight
    5. In Color
    6. Cheap Trick (1997)
    7. Special One
    8. Woke Up With a Monster
    9. Next Position Please
    10. The Latest
    11. Rockford
    12. One on One
    13. In Another World
    14. Bang Zoom Crazy... Hello
    15. We're All Alright!
    16. Lap of Luxury
    17. The Doctor
    18. Standing on the Edge
    19. Busted

Mine would be shuffled a bit, but I can't correct someone's likes and dislikes. Love of Cheap Trick is enough in my book. My sister had three 8 tracks in her Firebird, Traffic Low Spark, Dream Police (which I think my brother actually purchased) and maybe Harvest? Can't remember exactly.

In Color is too low here, that’s my number one. Another World is good but I feel you’ve overrated it. Bang Zoom Crazy Hello is also lower than where I’d put it, I don’t see how there’s such a big gap between it and the two after it, especially We’re Alright which I feel is inferior. I’d also swap All Shook Up and Next Position Please.
Now to what I do agree with. Special One is the worst, Busted is better than Lap Of Luxury. Cheap Trick 97 is overrated. I also like where you ranked three of my favourites, One On One, WUWAM and Rockford which I’d actually have even higher.
