tip: the thing about jelly gouache is when it dries out you can reactivate it with water. But every so often while your painting you should spray the paints with water to keep them moist. oops I just realized you mentioned that, but I said that because you could've reactivated the paint on the lids.
they have a mist moisturizer spray to avoid molding and hardening of the paint. It's not required, water works just as well but the spray easily puts the hardened gouache to their jelly state.
@@luna-il2pwmine didn't go mouldy. keep spraying them with water before and after. I've seen an artist named daixykaren that she puts the cups at a very watery state and it still works, it dries easily when its very windy. Also use distilled water i guess for no contaminants or cover it with a lid after getting your colors
I told my mom that I wanted gouache, so I asked if I could use my money and then she’ll pay for the shipment. Then she told me: “You already have a lot of art supplies. What’s the difference in getting these” I wish I could tell her that the ones I have are totally different mediums. Update: thanks for the likes and tips! My mom finally bought me one 🥳❤️
Why can't you tell her that? Explain to her what it means and the differences it makes. Just like a jacket, a sweater and a shirt are all clothes but they are used for different things art mediums are the same and different too
If she likes to cook, tell her it's like trying to make spaghetti sauce with ketchup instead of tomato sauce or tomatoes. Sure, ketchup is made with tomatoes and they're both food, but they are not used for the same thing and the results would be drastically different.
But it’s your money. She shouldn’t say that when she doesn’t know art. Try to talk to her about it and say that I know what it is and it’s my money. Maybe that’ll work.
I got the 18 set of himi gouache a year or two ago and they're still perfect! at some stage I left them for a few months so the tops kinda dried out but I went and mixed each colour with a pallete knife, sprayed some water and they were all good! just make sure to spray them with water over half hour or so when your painting with them, just helps them stay creamy. Considering buying either this 24 set just for all the extra pastels lol, they look so cute, also love the paintings! Thanks for the tip about pencil on gouache btw, think I'll start doing that from now on :))
Thanks for your comments I’m interested how these sets are 3 years later . I’m finally going to try them I found a 52 set it looks massive but will be perfect for studio might need it’s own table lol 😂
On eBay they have two listings fir the 52 sets one is 94 and the other is 150 aud . The person selling the 94 set sent me an offer for 80 still so expensive
Dear Gretlusky, I actually didn’t write this up until now, but I discovered Gouache all thanks to you. The idea of drawing *Studio Ghibli* scenes with these bright, opaque colors is the BEST! And I bought this exact set for the job a while ago- I still need to get used to it, as the colors felt strange to use at first, but I just want to thank you for everything! Totoro, his blue and white friend plus the cat from Kikis Little Delivery Service were my first motifs! You inspire all of us, but especially us who are artists too! So thank you, you irreplaceable you! (rhyme? ;D)
Gret, como siempre haciendo cosa maravillosas! tengo el set de 12 y hace tiempo no lo uso, ver este video me inspiró mucho, ahora quiero intentar hacer un estudio de fondos también!!
I just got some of these after hearing other RUclipsrs and online friends rave about them. I haven't don't much with them yet, just a few small doodles to see how they work, I managed to get a really good deal of a massive bundle with this same set of paint. I haven't been sure what to paint with them yet but I love the idea of studio Ghibli, I haven't watched any in ages, this was such a ramble lol
This video was great!! I enjoyed not only learning about gouache in general and the set itself, but also getting to see it in action with multiple examples! really made me excited to try out this medium!
This is my first time watching one of your videos, and I subscribed right away. Your video style is so very relaxing. I must agree with you about the Miya Himi Gouache paint. It is wonderfully vibrant, with so much paint that it allows you to experiment with mixing colours without the fear of you wasting a lot of the paint. I love painting in gouache, I just love the creaminess of it, and the flat matt surface you get when it dries. I have only ever used watercolour up until my husband bought me this Himi gouache set two weeks ago, it's wonderful stuff and I'm completely hooked! God bless you and all those you love. Have a great day!
I used my jelly gouache twice and then it ended up in a bin with other art supplies, but I was really inspired this morning to do it again and they are all dried out. Rehydrating them is chaotic and my hands were covered in paint. But hopefully tomorrow when the ones I have to soak overnight have hydrated and I can mix them more, then I can paint something!
Actually the only difference between jelly gouache and tube gouache is just like, pan watercolors vs tube? Tube acrylics vs bottle? It's just what the gouache is in, tubes vs cutesie cups (leaving aside brand quality and all, that is, something like windsor and newton or holbein or somethings gonna be better quality, especially as himi is pretty cheap-still great tho)
Beautiful paintings! Thank you for this video… really helped me decide if I want jelly cups or not 💖. I’m wondering what paint set is the color swatches in your journal at the end of the video from??
Thank you for the review of your process opening this! I just got this set, and your commentary was super helpful in figuring out how to organize the paints and what to do with the lids!
I was first hesitating to buy this brand 😆 when I saw you purchased one, this what drives me to buy one for myself 😂. thank you for amazing artworks it inspires me so much. I'm a big fan all the way from Philippines 💖💖💖
main reason is they're used by art students w/c is why the colors are in one container, open and easy to dip and refillable. and they produce a lot of artworks that's why its cheap there since the company is mostly student grade but good quality.

that’s very smart
Ohhh yes I'm gonna do that when I get mine.
