I sit in fairly deep brakes before starting my turn (generally 270 on 96 loaded @ 2.2 from 720ft) but I try to be settled on base before I get into that mode rather than doing much busy manoeuvring and anything I do is with harness rather than increasing toggle depth on one side. Are you suggesting being in fuller drive and doing a shorter surge on the brakes before initiation is the safer option? I prefer the consistency of being settled in deep brakes for a cycle before initiating into fronts but I did feel uncomfortable and bail on one the other day in some bumps so I do worry about turbulence stalling out the canopy in brakes.

It sounds like what you are doing is fine. As long as you experiment with reducing the angle of attack upon turn initiation when you are up high, you will be able to safely maneuver in slow flight down low. Knowing the risks reduces the risks. It is in our ignorance that we are often punished.

Does anybody have a link to the video Brian refers to?

I promised the head of safety for that country that I would not share the video. This is an active fatality investigation. Very sad, but we can learn from it.
