- It was a public holiday/long weekend here in Australia and we had a great weekend with all the doggies and our family, we hope you did too.
Luke heads off early with Wolfie for some fuel and hardware. Wolfie is a little taken with anything mechanical at the moment. At the hardware store he spots a forklift and his reaction is as if he’s spotted a real life unicorn.
Back home, Kitty wakes up Cutie Pie with a few slaps. Tank and Chopper are busy cleaning the dishes.
It’s the school holidays and the girls want a hair cut, Elle wants short hair, so Dad volunteers. Mum can’t watch. The dogs all help, it’s a beautiful day and they slide down the grassy hill soaking it all in.
After breakfast we head out to work with Chance in the group. After a week of socialising with the pack at an easy entry level, it’s time to start increasing the energy and hence difficulty level. He doesn’t make it past the second test today. Whilst we know this is just a part of Chance’s journey here, we had hoped of course it might have been a little easier. Luke explains what’s happening, but also why we have to stay strong. For Chance and for all the dogs.
We then take the pack for a swim. We open some lovely parcels from some very generous followers, thank you so much.
After a swim we break for coffee. A little cleaning. The dogs nap, on the floor, on chairs, on our laps. We pick ourselves up with a little caffeine and a whole lotta love to head into the afternoon/evening routine.
Wolfie seeing the forklift is everything. ETA: Somebody PLEASE adopt Tank and Chopper! What affectionate, happy dogs. And Roscoe playing with Cutie Pie has to be the most adorable thing ever. I'm sorry Chance had a setback, but Luke won't give up on him and someday he will do everything he is asked to do.

I don't think it was a setback. He just failed at the next level of testing that he has just started.
Luke is spot on with Chance’s training as always. In the long run Chance will have a better, longer, happier life once he learns what is not allowed.

@@musingwithreba9667 I think the issue is he is a marshmallow for people but not dogs. That's how these big guys get into so much trouble. It's amazing that Luke gives him the chance .. no pun . He even accidentally t- boned Fredo and poor Fredo went down.

Why would anyone feel sorry for chance, he’s not on death row anymore and has high level care and training.
If only 1/8 of the world had what you have in your home and area ie; children, animals (lots of them!), messy areas, hair, poop, dirt, mud, blankets on furniture, all sharing food together, and the LOVE you give to every one of them, this world would be a much better place to live in.
Agree. Priorities are spot on and rare. Love without sentimentality or mollycoddling. Safe and secure.

There's something so special about watching children discover new things! The look on Wolfie's face as he looks around and sees the forklift is sublime. So much fun with dad. ❤❤

Best thing for Chance is to learn the rules and to follow them. I would definitely be concern for the others if Luke ignored him not following the rules, that’s no good for anyone, including Chance.
Right now Chance doesn’t appreciate the freedom, so therefore he’s takes a step back in his training, fully understandable in my eyes.
I laugh every time Roscoe does his jumps in the pool, you definitely can hear him, while watching the parcel openings.
Nevaeh could be the next dock diver champion, not sure if you have that dog sport in Australia, but she would be a contender, that’s for sure.
Like Sam said, no one wants Chance to join the pack full time more than they do BUT he isn’t ready. I’m so glad Chance is in the perfect place & with the best trainer ever to help him succeed. That’s something to be happy about for Chance, not sad about. ❤🙏🏻❤
End goals are exactly that, at the END. I can understand peoples wish to see him out and exploring, but if he’s not ready then he’s not ready. WE aren’t his trainer, so the ultimate decision rests with Luke. So people need to understand the safety concerns with Chance. Assessments like these are necessary for any dog especially with dogs such as Chance. Rules and boundaries are there to keep everyone safe. Well done Luke, well said. 🐾❤️🐾
yes absolutly agree. There is reason for his madness. When advice is asked for that is different but until then let's leave the job for Luke.
What Luke is saying about Chance's training makes a lot of sense. It takes many little steps to reach goals. I didn't know that one of Luke's hidden talents was a hairdresser!
I can't even go to the bathroom without my 2 dogs having to come with me. I can see them all at the bathroom door waiting for Luke to come out. LOL

I think Rosco is so in love with Luke because Luke never gave up on him, and all he wants to do is attach himself to Luke. I honestly believe Rosco would do anything to protect Luke with his life.
I never think of him as poor Chance...I think of him as lucky Chance ....considering what his other choice was before you so kindly rescued him!....things take time and you all have the utmost patience 💕
People shouldn’t be allowed to own powerful breeds without doing a “parenting” course on powerful breeds! Thank you for all you doing with him.
Sadly breeders often do not do any proper checks, they just sell to any who want.
My home city is Liverpool, U.K. Just by coincidence, it has been on today's news that a 65 year old women in this city has today been mauled to death by an American bulldog, or possibly more than one. Yes, she is dead and the dogs belonged to her next door neighbour. Apparently, the police have taken away five of these dogs which have been humanely destroyed. There are now calls for this breed to be placed on the banned register, meaning that some people want ownership to be illegal. This happening on the same day as Luke's post about Chance really brings it home about the amount of training these powerful dogs require and which has to be maintained in any type of social setting. Luke is 100% correct and then some.
Look at Freddo dock dive, I remember when he didn't care for the water at all. He's such a good boy
There is a term in healing trauma called titration. That’s what Luke is doing with Chance. He is slowly titrating/engaging in higher processing modes to the nervous system where Chance can respond rather than react into fight/flight/freeze. When the nervous system gets overwhelmed, response goes down and reaction returns. There is nothing to be sorry for or ashamed of regarding Chance’s progress. Every nervous system is different because of individual history. Chance has a very traumatic history. His titration will be slower but it’s still moving forward. Luke is making sure Chance goes at a pace where he can learn and process rather than re-traumatize or regress. And failure is part of the process. It’s normal.
I am one of those that feels sorry for Chance being back there alone. My own abandonment trauma is humanizing Chance. Thanks for mentioning that, Sam. But when I put that aside and watch what Luke is doing, he is doing the opposite of abandonment. He is truly loving Chance by honoring his level of ability plus the boundaries and safety of the pack. Real love is not enabling behavior to make it easier. It’s doing the hard work that benefits everyone involved so all become confident and secure beings.
It’s hard to watch sometimes but Luke has it right. And Chance will become better for it.
I’m wondering if some alternative treatment would help Chance’s nervous system rewire with more ease. Like acupuncture or homeopathy. I have found these great resources in helping trauma process better.
Either way, you’ll get there, Chance.

The wonderful innocence of Wolfie. Everything is new and amazing. So sweet, Luke enjoys his reactions as much as he does.
Nevaeh's physical muscular body and dock diving performance is really impressive, she does it with such grace, like Maggie with running, whoever adopts her simply must have a backyard pool. Freddo doing his best to keep up with her is impressive as well. Tank and Chopper are great looking dogs, just beautiful.

Short term goals are easy, long term goals are harder but much more rewarding and set Chance up for a greater success in the future.

i will continue to feel sorry for chance. not because he is not ready yet - because of the abuse he suffered in his life. you can clearly see that he wants to do the right thing and please his handler. a very specific treat of this breed. they dont know whats right or wrong as long as they get a positive feedback. and i know with your help he can be his best self. he is a good boy.

My 2cents worth is, everyone watching on the internet see’s only maybe 5% of your day, you are amazing and if you hadn’t taken him on with the training he’d be dead (FACT). If someone was to be paid for the time and effort you’ve put into his rehabilitation it’d be a thousand bucks a week easy and you do it to help and give them a chance so I thank you for being AMAZING. Ps the dock diving was epic today but I pmsl when Choppa fell in next to where Sam was filming. Man Nevaeh gets some serious air ♥️ Michelle

Watching those powerful dogs flying through the air in slow motion into the pool was really awe inspiring. Just magnificent.
This is a household of 20+ kids at any one time, hooman and canine and feline and etc., all of whom need to be cooked for, fed, clothed (even if only a collar), bathed, cleaned up after, taught, played with, and loved. The capacity of Sam and Luke and all of the staff and helpers does not cease to amaze and delight me. So much love and so much beauty 💗💕💖

Chance is a very fortunate dog. He's lucky that Luke has the knowledge & patience to take him through the learning process stage by stage, unrushed. I think that many viewers mean well when they comment, but we all have to remember we are only seeing snippets of what is going on. It's awesome that Chance has made it this far, but we've got to take into account his journey is a very complex one and he can't afford a major slip-up as he doesn't have any more chances (no pun intended). Thanks, Sam & Luke for reiterating the facts about Chance. Even those dogs who have been in the house pack for a while still have to be reminded when they do wrong as it doesn't take much to fall back into bad habits of old. I heard Freddo get a reminder on this video. Hadn't heard that for a while. There's still a touch of the old 'tough' Freddo in there. He still likes to test Luke out, though I do wonder whether, thesedays, it might be more of 'game test' to see if he gets caught out. There's still a bit of a kid in my beautiful Rottie fave. Miss Pie clearly wants to be Rosco's bread roll as well as Kitty Rose's. She's the biggest little pug I've ever seen. She doesn't care how big any other dog is 🙂It is nice to see Faith still enjoying her time with Hope & the pack ❤

You guys know your doing the right training with Chance and thank goodness you do. I have a small dog and am CONSTANTLY worried when I walk her in parks. There are so many dog owners who don't care that they have strong powerful dogs that aren't trained and are unsocialized. So thank you for taking the time with Chance and ensuring another powerful dog is not out in the world untrained.
Exactly and so many who have no idea the damage their dog could cause and think that because they might be ok in comfortable known surroundings they are 'trained'.
I think I should adopt Roscoe so I have back up for my 7kg mini Labradoodle!!!

Wonderful hour spent. Freddo, Roscoe, and Neveah should be in those competitions to see how far they can long jump in the pool. I still laugh every time Roscoe slides over the side. 😂😂. Lily tickles me with her non stop barking. I haven’t decided yet if she is trying to boss around the rest of the dogs or just enjoys barking. 🤣🤣 There was so much to love in this video. If you’ve ever seen a dog attack another you wouldn’t feel sorry for Chance my neighbors dog attack my Aussie in my yard and didn’t turn loose until my dog was dead I was home by myself no one around to help I tried one to separate them and got severely bit by the other dog it was the most horrible heartbreaking thing I’ve ever seen and will never forget it Luke is during the right thing with Chance if Shadow can make that change Chance can it will just take time

Seeing Luke cut the girl’s hair reminded my of when my dad cut my hair! There were 5 of us girls, and after he cut all our hair that summer, we looked like he set a bowl on our heads ! That was the last time, EVER, he got to cut our hair! We looked like refugees from the 1920’s! Oh the HORRORS! 😱 😝😜

As a Parent and Teacher (43 yr), this is the way we teach our Children. Teaching, letting them try, loving correction, ReTeach, try again……etc. until SUCCESS❣️❣️. No differences…..animals or Humans🥰🥰🥰🥰
Yes, poor Chance, BUT……he NEEDS to perform 1000% to have the privilege to play with others nicely. Luke sets them up to fail for a reason. He cannot move forward without knowing what their limitations are. These are dogs came with serious issues, that need to be taken seriously. ALL the dogs are required to respond with the same level expectations.

Totally agree with Chance's training, it will all be worth it in the end and he and all other dogs he interacts with will benefit from the ongoing training.
Absolutely agree with Luke and Sam. Chance will learn. The old adage is, you can’t run till you learn to walk. Look, just seeing Chance and Roscoe nose to nose and not even a problem. Some learn faster than others.

I love your father and son time together. I love how you express what you are doing when a dog, here Chance, is "failing" to obey your commands, it's obvious what you have to do, and we must not feel sad or sorry for him. Luke was taught the same thing as I was: "If you are going to do a job do it properly" and that's what he's doing with Chance. As much as we would like to, we can't predict or control random events so it is "better safe than sorry". Faith and Hope are coming along nicely and are especially great company for each other. Wolfie loves any moving vehicle and it is so cute to see him when he gets so excited. That smile just lights up the world. Thank you to everyone who sent parcels. Some wonderful gifts for Elle, Evie and Wolfie, much needed toys for the dogs, a beautiful new collar for Miss Violet, blankets, and a ball throwing machine for Freddo. He will be in his glory. I remember when Chance first came to the farm you said he really wants to be good he just needed a 'chance' to prove himself as this was his last chance. I have everything crossed and every confidence that he will make it....eventually🤞❤

Luke knows better than anyone the good, bad and ugly of each dog. I’d say the vast majority of us are behind all that Luke and Sam do 1000%. It’s like tough love for your kids, only for dogs. They misbehave or don’t listen, there are consequences. Beautiful Chance will get there. It’s just going to take longer. Sometimes it’s 2 steps forward and 1 step back. Wolf at the building supply store was so cute. He really lit up when he saw the forklift. So Luke - you’re now a hairdresser? Is there anything you can’t do?? Tank and Chopper are so handsome. And, how about Neveah’s leaps into the pool - totally epic!!! The presents were terrific and the whole video, as usual, was great. Thanks for sharing a part of your day. ♥️🐕🦺🦮❤️👧🏻👧👦♥️

Loved watching the wonder and amazement on Wolfie's face with his dad at the hardware store. Poor Cutie Pie. I'm not sure that's a peaceful way to wake up in the morning...hilarious. Oh Chancey Boy. Baby steps and you will be that beautiful boy everyone is praying for. Just some hard knocks before you get there. By the way watching Luke cut the girls hair took a lot of trust. Those girls sure do love and trust their daddy. That was such a great moment.

Wolfie's face when he saw the forklift and later when his dad switched on the engine in the bus. Not only - the wheels on the bus go round and round - but the engine works too!! His face filled with delight! Made my day. What a way to start the Tuesday. Evie and Elle - you look smashing. Love your new hairstyle. Fab. I used to wear it like that when I was your age. I’m so in agreement with Neveah and her dock diving gift. She flies. But I love seeing the 3 biggest dogs flying off the dock. They are spectacular: Freddo, Rosco and NAVEAH! So beautiful!
Wow Nevaeh! Her jumps are huuuge, and she takes off a couple of feet before the end of the dock as well! Awesome to see Freddo, Roscoe and Neveah leaping together. Sam, you are so right. We let the dogs down when we humanize them. This misunderstanding and I must say stubborn misconception has caused so much suffering and pain with the dogs. Please wise up folks. A dog is people's best friend but not always another dog's best friend.
