- A passenger aircraft carrying 64 people collided with a US Army Black Hawk helicopter near Reagan National Airport outside of Washington, DC, as it approached the runway, according to the Federal Aviation Administration and defense officials. Ari Schulman, who says he witnessed the plane crash, speaks to CNN’s Abby Phillip about what he saw. CNN correspondent Pete Muntean reports and CNN transportation analyst Mary Schiavo weighs in. CNN correspondent Pete Muntean and CNN transportation analyst Mary Schiavo give the latest.

This is not a small aircraft. I don't understand why people say it's a small plane... A plane carrying 64 people is not small. May the heavens watch over them.
It looks fake because when planes collide the explosion is more intense. This looks more like failed fireworks and this was crafted by the government again.Wake up folks so many conspiracies
It’s small compared to a lot of the bigger planes that hold 2-300 people. 64 is pretty small. If you’re in a mainline flight you’re not on a plane that holds less then 170 people. These regional airlines fly smaller aircraft’s so competent to 170, 60 is pretty small.

Exactly. Seems all media protecting the military. CNN in all web articles keep saying that the plane collided with helicopter. This infers the fault was with the airline and not the military. The plane clearly had the right of way due to the extreme difference in manoeuvrability and thus it was the military helicopter that collided with the plane. Words matter. My heart goes out to those injured.
@@Abdul-e3m it's being reported that the plane was rapidly descending to land while the helicopter was ascending, that gives the illusion that the helicopter hit the plane when in fact they hit one another. If true, neither aircraft had time to react but we truly do not know at this time
Why is the media saying the passenger jet collided with the helicopter when we can clearly see it was the other way around
It's not P[atriotically]C[orrect] to place fault on the military.

@@Winston_Smith-144 They're all doing, magatard.

Trump said the plane is at fault for colliding with the helicopter. So all media is changing it so that Trump doesn't look stupid! But all video evidence points to the helicopter being at fault. Just more proof that Trump is the dumbest president ever
I think the headline was written with "Passenger Jet" first because that instantly conveys that it's a major aviation accident with multiple casualties. I don't think CNN was placing any kind of responsibility or blame for the accident. That will take an FAA investigation.
@@margestrong they have freedom of speech and a job to report honestly to the public
It was the helicopter's fault. The airliner was making a clean approach. It isn't a pilot's job on approach to anticipate a fucking chopper coming out of nowhere.
It’s not a small airplane… I don’t get why people are saying it’s a small airplane… 64 people is not a small airplane… May the heavens watch over them
CRJ - Canadair Regional Jet - I've flown on them many times. Used alot for shorter commuter flights.
Rj regional jet has up to 70 pax. mainline planes have 119-350 pax.
When i landed in dca, came down potomac. Never saw a helicopter, i was crew working flt
The Airbus A380 can fit over 850 people. So relative to that, it is a small airplane. Likely one of the smaller commercial jets to use that airport.
They are scrambling to minimize blame when it’s clear the military is at fault.
How does that military helicopter located in the civilian airport landing routes?? It doesn't make sense at all!!
Sounds rediculous
Apparently the Blackhawk turned off it's ADSB should have still had a mode c transponder the CRJ 700 would have gotten a TCAS alert.
It's Washington, D.C. A strong military presence is needed-- for obvious reasons. That said, military bases adjoining or close to civilian airports is the norm across America. Civilian helicopters use these airspaces as well.

All of the major news networks are using this wording, not just CNN. Fox is saying it that way too.

The passenger plane did NOT collide with the helicopter.
Watch the video!!!
The passenger plane was coming in for a landing.
The helicopter RAN INTO the passenger plane!
That means the HELICOPTER collided with the passenger plane!
Stop being dishonest!
Words are important and the headlines you are using are giving the impression that the passenger jet was at fault. It appears to be a deliberate decision to keep using a misleading headline. Why?
Take a close look at the wording.. Why not military chopper collides with passenger jet?
That was the headline on all these reports up until about an hour ago.
Because structuring the sentence this way puts the focus on the passenger jet. 'Helicopter collides with jet' would put the focus on the helicopter. Given the number of people onbarod the plane, that should have our focus. While the sentence seems odd given what looks like happened, from a discourse perspective, they've got it the right way round.
@@clarkkl100 lmao are you clowning on purpose?? The sentence should say which aircraft flew into the other aircraft and this headline is backwards/false.

That’s a Blackhawk? A military asset being flown at 400ft directly in the path of a landing aircraft? Whoever is in charge is struggling to dig up names for the so called deceased service members. Military assets do not do anything they are not ordered to do. There is no military squadron ordering their aircraft directly into the path of civilian aircraft on a landing course. To obtain something you've never had before, you must be willing to take actions you have never taken before.
This is one of the most shocking aviation disasters in modern history. A mid-air collision between an American Eagle passenger jet and a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter over the Potomac River near Reagan National Airport has left the nation in shock. The CRJ700 was on final approach, moments from landing, when it intersected with the military helicopter, causing an explosive impact that tore both aircraft apart. Debris rained down into the freezing waters below, with rescue teams racing against time to recover survivors. The explosion was so massive that it was captured on security cameras across D.C., lighting up the night sky in a way that no one could have imagined. Bodies are still being recovered, and families of the victims are left devastated, demanding answers. The investigation is now in full motion, but the sheer scale of this tragedy raises urgent questions about how two aircraft could have been on a collision course in one of the most tightly controlled airspaces in the world.
The FAA, NTSB, and military officials are scrambling to determine the root cause-was this an ATC failure, a breakdown in communication, or an unforeseen mechanical malfunction? Did the Black Hawk’s transponder fail, making it invisible to the passenger jet’s collision-avoidance systems? Or was this the result of last-second maneuvers that neither pilot could have avoided? Whatever the cause, this disaster has exposed vulnerabilities in air traffic safety that can no longer be ignored. Washington, D.C.’s airspace will never be the same after this, and the pressure is mounting for massive changes in aviation security, military flight coordination, and emergency response protocols. The world is watching, and this investigation will shape the future of flight safety forever. 😢
Blame trump.
