This Canadian totally agrees with both Chaudhary Rafique's and Gul Sher Khan's comments and beliefs on this topic. Seen through the eyes of others, the western justice system seems bizarre.
Canada de-facto abolished the death penalty in Jan. 1963.
Also, it may be noted that a number of the murderers presented were afflicted with a variety of mental illnesses and psychoses.
I believe that the practice of giving death row inmates a "last meal" has it's origins in Christian principles of extending humanity to all human beings, regardless of crime, but it was not a deference to the criminal, but rather a balm of sorts to society in that a person was being killed officially under government sanction; a lot of early prisons had influence from Christian churches in how they were run and how inmates were treated in general, since conditions were very poor indeed, which was seen as un-Christian.
In the U.S.A., 22 states have abolished the death penalty, 25 still have the death penalty and use it regularly, and 3 are Governor-imposed-moratorium states.
Interestingly, some studies show that a possible death sentence is less of a deterrent to committing certain crimes than a sentence of being jailed for natural life is. It is thought that the idea of a permanent lack of freedom holds less appeal than death for some individuals.
This seemed a bit of a dark topic for our fine fellows....

The death penalty is mandatory for blasphemy, and 40 people remained on death row as of late 2020,” the report said."
As per ICC, two Christian nurses were charged with blasphemy for allegedly scratching a sticker from Quran in a Civil Hospital.
in January a Christian cleric, Pastor Raja Warris was charged with blasphemy charges over a Facebook post. Although Warris later removed the said post and apologised, however, police still filed blasphemy charges against him for “deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings.”

All without a single shot fired. This is actually an argument against gun control in America as taking our guns away will only breed a more deadly type of criminal that uses IEDs in the absence of firearms. Instead of a dozen people getting shot and one or two dying we will have hundreds killed and thousands mutilated, along with billions of dollars in damages.

Like, in an ideal world, if you insert yourself into a situation, you've taken on the responsibility of dealing with it fairly and equally, with the same standards for everyone. You're claiming to be the authority that knows the "correct path," making decisions in the best interests of the rest of us. And then, where is the line between criminals and the rest of us? Humans are humans, and if we're going to attempt to regulate human behavior, we probably should be regulating it for the best in the case of each individual, whether they are "criminals" or not, if it seems we want to establish a duty to "help." Help one, help everyone, regardless of the origin of the need for help. I think we see that, and that we might be abandoning "helping" by enforcing the death penalty, which is why Americans give those sentenced a last meal- to assuage our own guilt that we failed to help everyone.

Hello Stephanie , i really liked your response , made me happy thanks for saying so. Daesh are renegades we call Khwarij. Essentially they are the secularists within the religion i.e religious secularists. This is because the majority of mu'slims follow schools of thought which was developed during the first 300 years of Islam. They reject following any of these four schools of thought and decide instead to be literalist interpreters of Qu'ran and Hadith which is dangerous thing to do as it breeds real ignorance. For example bin laden in an interview was asked that the prophet(saw) hadith says we can not kill innocent civilians and anyone who commits suicide goes to hell and so think of one who kills innocent blood whilst also killing him/herself - what a punishment that individual has in wait for them. Bin laden to the question over innocent people being killed responded by saying - yes that it is true what the prophet(saw) said that but because the west kills indiscriminately our innocents we are allowed thus to kill theirs.
So in short his idea and all of those who follow other extremists groups base their ideology not on Islam but on their own reasonings which is secularism of thought and action.

There weren't any witch trials, there was no law prohibiting blacks form eating at the same place as white folks, there was no law defending the right for a colored man or women to walk free. My point, is that, mainstream media cannot be your only source. I have lived both worlds and Seen the bad and the good. Yes like any nation, there needs to be a consensus on what laws need to be applied. Blasphemy is something that is taken exceptionaly seriously in the Muslim world and all the more reason for the laws to be iron clad and the proof to be absolute. Blasphemy cases are rare and yes they are controversial, but they are absolutely without a doubt less controversial than invading a country under false pretenses or using the worst bombs ever created on civilians. My second point is Islam is not the problem, it's the media that focus on a bare minimum to paint the entire nation red. Islam has shown me compassion, it has shown me discipline, it has shown me to respect other religions and races and for that I will always be a proud Muslim.

but saying a blasphemy law has to be ironclad and with all proof. means you think some people deserve to die, for insulting islam, and that says it all, no one deserves to die for insulting other religion.
so here you are saying that Islam has shown you to respect other religions, but at the same time saying it's ok for islam to kill people that talks against their religion, yeah you have convinced me, islam is love indeed.
religions are the problem specially when they are used to repress people, telling them what to think, what to wear, who to marry, and a government that used religion to make laws, is very dangerous.
as it was in Europe and in the US with the inquisition and the witch hunts, and the hunting and expulsion of the jews from many countries.
