  • During my last visit of Tuhon Baldwin T. Garrucho in Bacolod, after Russian house in the Philippines camp 2015 i had a chance to get this interesting interview, deep explonation and training in this unique method of Filipino empty hands fighting Visayan Pukulan in Mumbokal area, near Bacolod, Philippines!

    Good stuff. Filipino martial arts have so many influences, and have influenced so many themselves. I'm noticing the interplay of Chinese and Indonesian arts being blended with Filipino arts. The Filipinos were absorbing what is useful long before Bruce Lee. While beautiful to watch, I'd hate to be on the receiving end in a real fight. It's relentless.

      Here in Pangasinan Province Philippines, pukul or pukel means bone. I guess there is a connection there because striking requires using our bones to hit another person with.

    NIce hand traps. A bit inefficient in moves in that it takes 4-6 moves to overcome opponent, but they would have been pummeled and suffered a lot in that time. Not many straight line moves which may explain some of the inefficiencies. But when knife was used, this would be a standout fighting system. RESPECT!

    • @Riqtube
      @Riqtube 5 лет назад +3

      He's more of displaying techniques, there are "quick kills" in FMA. Normally we grab them out of a flow of attack, but 4-6 movements are not needed because FMA always keeps the 2nd and 3rd party/weapon in mind. Showing techniques and doing free flow sparring is different, but don't let the vid sway you from trying FMA.

    • @sopwithcamelus
      @sopwithcamelus 4 года назад +2

      @@Riqtube I have recently seen an instructor say exactly the same thing, that what you're watching is an entire catalog of techniques meant for training purposes. In application, things can be stripped down to take advantage of opportunities as they arise.

    One thing that is very relevant is that they are training in there street clothes... that way you are not conditioned to years of habitual training in a uniform which dictates your mindset when the time comes to react.. hang on I need to put on my uniform before you attack... the uniform is one of the biggest barriers to your defense on the street.. and if you do not think this is so then watch any martial arts practitioners demeanor switch once they suit up ...

      Not separate. It's the same thing with minor changes. The concept of bladed hand means that the movement of the blade translates to the stick, to the knife, and then to the hand. the minor difference is how the weapons generate power and disarms.
