If there are oil stains or heavy grease on the concrete driveway, service station, dumpster pad, then you need to use straight sodium hydroxide - 2.5 cups + 1/4 cup Blue Dawn added to 5 gallons of water - stir - apply - use your surface cleaner.
Thank you Mike for sharing with us.
Hi Mike, I’ve been pressure washing for roughly 3 years and still get nervous using bleach lol I think a great video would be “when NOT to use bleach”
Appreciate the videos! I’ve learned a lot
Great suggestion!
We use bleach DAILY. Just gotta rinse and water plants and rinse surfaces around the area down to get it off/dilute it. And don’t use it on wood really. There are better products for wood 👍🏼
@chadhamel8707 what % of SH do you use to post treat concrete and do you rinse after post treating?
Hey Mike, I am a 16 year old that started a pressure washing business and I have a pressure washer that is just short of 3GPM. This is obviously not enough water flow for a really efficient surface cleaner. My question to you is do you think I should go all out and get a 6GPM and buffer tank for surface cleaning or when would you in my position of just starting a business end up making that big upgrade? I am a serious business man and regardless of my age would like to take business a step further, thank you so much for helping grow the business development of many people getting out of the trap of employment.
Young lion👍
And always softwash with bleach and water. First and weight. About 15 minutes to half an hour. Then use the pressure washer you'll see better results

Great video, thanks a lot mike
Thanks for watching

@@AllAboutPressureWashing wait till you read the novel I wrote earlier today about finding your channel. It's a book bossman!!
@@MisterTherapy where might I read this novel
Thank you for the advice! Peace
Mike, love your work! I found a truck that you may like to look into. It’s a porta potty pumping truck with 375 gallon fresh water and a 550 or 750 gallon flatbed waste tank. I feel it is perfect for many tasks and it allows you to up sell your services being that you can collect the waste and then dispose of it in landscape or wastewater facility. Let me know your thoughts on this.
That sounds interesting, we do not have to worry about water reclamation but guys that do would very much be interested in a vehicle like this. Thank you for sharing
Thanks brother. I appreciate the video
Hi mike, I'm wondering how to downstream? More specifically, how much bleach to downstream because I know it'll mix with water, so how do I know what mixture of bleach to use to then "downstream" and get a 2-3% mix coming out of my wand?
Pre treating concrete for algae has usually for the most part been a waste of product and time. Haven’t seen a situation where it speeds up the job or left a better result. However, when it comes to post treating it seems to always be a good idea. Because it removes swirl marks and lines and prevents algae growing back in in weird patterns. Because it will always grow back where the least amount was removed which is where the lines and swirl marks are. So always post treat. Oil, rust and stains or course are a completely different story and require completely different chemicals and do require a nice dwell time then pressure wash.
Of course pre-treatment is effective.
@@AllAboutPressureWashing your surface cleaner can only go a certain speed regardless of pretreating and will remove most of the organics then go in with the post treat and it’s perfect. No situation I can think of to pre-treat. Even in the most severe cases of algae build up the bleach will only affect the surface level of the algae and doesn’t do a good job penetrating into the concrete. While it will kill some algae of course I’m not debating that, it just doesn’t make that much of a difference to warrant the extra chemical cost and the extra time spent doing it. Post treat is the most effective method. Saves time and chemical and leaves the ideal result every time.
@@Unmployable When you go to the sink to wash your hands, do you rinse first or put on soap first?
I disagree we compared no pre treating and pre treating. Pretreating always makes removing black algae easier and quicker.
@@rolltide9547 post treating will remove the black spots with half the product and half the time.
Great Video!
Thanks
What’s the minimum psi pressure washer you suggest to run those cleaning heads properly?
Hi Mike. I'm about to be starting up my own pressure washing business soon. As you spoke about pre and post treatment, I question whether the SH should be the same % on both treatments or significantly lower on post? I appreciate all your videos. Thank you!!
Bleach is cheap so there is no harm in going hotter than Mike describes as long as you watch out for edge burn. I like to hotter than a house-wash mix as he describes and sometimes you don't need the surface cleaner, just the ball valve and a rinse and that is not as likely with a "house-wash" mix but more likely with a "roof mix". As Mike said, not all jobs are the same.
Thank you for the great videos
Heyo! You mention SOCAL and Im wanting to start a Outdoor cleaning + wood treatment/restoration business pretty much in the desert (Though thankfully it has rained all of this month). Have you heard success stories or trained guys from SOCAL region?
How much you charge for that size of hallway? I just bought one. Thanks for the video
So I see stripes after ising surface cleaner and I’m overlaping? I fix the issue with post treating if I not mistaken. Do I use 50/50 mix with an xjet?
Your desire to run your business as best as possible tells me you’ll always have a successful business. People that call themselves professionals truly are very rarely as professional as you are. I wish you all the best in your continued endeavor to be the best pressure washer in America.
Do you think companies do better up north or in the southeast?
Can u please tell me the ratio of the mix you use ?
I would like to start a pressure washing business but know absolutely nothing about it. Should I get a job working for someone else to learn everything I possibly can before starting my own? I live in Washington state but the part of the state I live in is more of a desert than other parts of the state.
How much did u charge for this driveway ?
I go 2-3% pre do u think a house wash 1.5 is ok for a post trying to save bleach
what psi do you recommend for home driveway?
Yeasss. Let's go!
Thanks for watching
@@AllAboutPressureWashing oh, not watching. Studying, cross researching and note taking, but, no time to just "watch" lol. Every word is money in the bank! Can't pass that up..
Am I missing something because is it not necessary to wear a respirator when dealing with spraying chemicals? I've watched multiple channels clean the side of houses and all of those guys are wearing a t-shirt, shorts, hat and sunglasses. Is it safe to breathe in the chemicals and allow it to come in contact with your skin? Genuine question.
Bleach and Dawn works for me when I do the concrete and wooden privacy fence
Don’t use too much concentration
Dilute the bleach fool
And im still learning. I've been doing pressure washing for a bit. I still need need advice
Can we mix SH and degreaser??
Thanks man this was great! So on an average when mixing bleach and water together would I use a whole gallon of bleach mixed with a gallon of water
This was a great one
Thanks
So much value in a couple minutes, thank you!
Thanks
So whats your take on gutter guards? They worth the investment?
Don’t fall for big promotion installers, mine ran 1100, my first quote was 16000. Best offer 6800 but name brand. Love mine, once a year brushing and cut down on mold an algie coming from gutter build up.
Thanks for all the tips!
If i make a solution of bleach thats 1.5% does it become a less percent after it mixes with the water from the costumers home ??
Yes, if you dilute a solution it becomes less potent.
What does 1.5% bleach solution mean
isn't there problem with letting bleach water enter runoff?
I'm watching this video and watching you do that driveway the whole time.. but then I noticed that you're washing the driveway from downstream to upstream then spray from upstream to downstream.. Is this normal? To do the bottom of the driveway before you do the rest of the driveway that washes down onto the bottom?
No idea what your talking about. The technician in the video applies a pre-treatment then surface cleans then rinses.
@@AllAboutPressureWashing He does the right and bottom first then the top left, but the water is running down and do the right. Maybe I need to watch more videos.
I need some Quote IQ merch 😎

Do you have to reclaim the water after treating with chemicals?
Ooooo that's the same question I just asked! Haha nice!
No
@@AllAboutPressureWashingI’m fairly certain you do. Under federal regulation chemical runoff must be contained

Why
You should seal the work when it is cleaned. It will save a customer alot of money having you go back every year instead of every 5
No
@@AllAboutPressureWashing exactly because if you did you would have no work at all. In my opinion the difference between a good business man and a shit one is giving people the best knowledge and the right advice instead of pissing in people's pockets to benefit one's self.

I usually do one gallon of bleach to one gallon of water

@Reckless Gamer so far no
Depends on the percentage of SH in the bleach solution you bought
That lawn needs a detach
do you think Ai and robots will take this away from us too?
No
I pre treated & it left white marks
What did you pre-treat with, what was the ratio, how did you apply it?
@@AllAboutPressureWashing half gallon of pool essentials + detergent downstream. I just downloaded your app to help with ratio I forgot to add water to the sh mix I thought the downstream would dilute the mix still came out nice just left little white marks wondering if you seen that before.
I feel like you are mad at me 😢😂😂😂
Probably
Alot of questions with too few answers provided.
Yeah but... where does all that sh go? I've been warned that I need a license to spray sh in Oregon and that I can't let any sh or dirty water get into the storm drains because it's a federal law or something like that. Anyone know?
That's the problem with living in a liberal state.
@@AllAboutPressureWashing well, yes, that's the first problem. Thankfully I'm in a conservative area. But federal law? Anyone know what they are talking about? I'm assuming the sh is so deluded by the time it gets to the drain that it really doesn't harm anything but what do I know.
@@AllAboutPressureWashing and the license is a pesticide license, to be clear.
It is a federal law to not let pollutants into drains basically. Its weather or not its being policed in the area. Probably best to be safe and block off any discharge from leaving private property. This
"The CWA made it unlawful to discharge any pollutant from a point source into navigable waters, unless a permit was obtained:
EPA's National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit program controls discharges.
Point sources are discrete conveyances such as pipes or man-made ditches.
Individual homes that are connected to a municipal system, use a septic system, or do not have a surface discharge do not need a NPDES permit;
Industrial, municipal, and other facilities must obtain permits if their discharges go directly to surface waters."
@@SydneyRayGolf so is dirt a pollutant?
Why are you wasting so much time using the wind? Why wouldn’t you use a surface cleaner? It would be done about 20 times faster maybe 50 times. Faster time is money isn’t it?
Just Sodium Hypochlorite absolutely EVERYTHING !! 😄Just kidding.
Every single video I’ve watched trying to learn something and get the most vague answers, that actually give me more questions. Instead I’m directed to a link that’s 400$. What??
Your about making money that's is awesome u should be you own a business. If you are going to be how you are you should help out the business who is starting don't charge them money. You make enough already. Why can u not help people for free? Give back do something good. That would be good. God bless
Do you work for free? Of course not. Don't like it? Don't watch. Unsubscribe.
@AllAboutPressureWashing no but I give back to people who are less fortunate. That's what I was saying. Helping out people who are just starting out who need help. Who need info. We should help each other in our business. Of course charge your customers I never said not to lmao. I just said hello people. But people like you I see can not do that. Have a good day. God bless
Who wants to pre treat, surface clean, rinse, post treat, then rinse again? Just wet it, surface clean then rinse
🤣🤣🤣🤣. It's not what you "want" to do.....it's the correct way to do it.
@@AllAboutPressureWashing true, but then I would have to charge triple for the triple amount of work!
Why would you need to charge triple - it takes 5 minutes max to pre or post treat - but you would need to account for the added Chem used (minimal) but the amount of business you will lose if you don't will far out weigh the added cost.
@@AllAboutPressureWashing because you still have to rinse it off. Instead of rolling up the hose, u gotta spray it with chem, wait ten min. Then spray it off again Most people don't even want chemicals in driveway anyway.
You don't have to rinse it off if you ore-treat
Also- not necessary to rinse off a pst treatment either
But again - is five minutes worth retaining a customer for life? I think so.
Tried to watch with kids but had to turn off because of profanity. Not professional 😢 content good but language needs cleaned after that driveway!
