This is such a cool concept. Would love to see your recommendations for other characters as well. Unfortunately, I play Yang so by default, I usually use SA2, though I do use SA3 for like two or three characters.
@@MajkelsAs a Dudley player, I’d say he’s a character that you could easily make a video similar to this regarding his SA1 and SA3. Even if a lot of people may end up using his SA3 as a default, there’s times where SA1 is a way stronger option imo because the damage you can get for using it can guarantee kills or at least letting you win with less interactions then the former. I mostly consider using it against Hugo and Makoto cause of how they can just kill me out right on a good read, or against Akuma because he has slippery ways to get out of my oki then other characters and his low health means he can die pretty fast from a good hit. So, someone more experienced than me can probably argue even more reasons why they might want to use SA1 over SA3 in a particular match up. I’d love to see that.
Great video. Someone already mentioned, but Urien lp headbutt gets him out of traditional loop. Also, I played 5 Star and Vinny back in the day, and their Kens almost always shoryu'd out of loop (they still eat the rest of the yagyou dama, but the shoryu knocks Oro down and away) I abandoned SAIII against high level Chuns, like Amir and Kai, because of how challenging it was to corner them. More often I think Oro gets corned than Chun in this matchup, which makes SAII feel more viable to me.
13:50 Maximilian (very knowledgeable ibuki) was testing this scenario. You can do the setup in such a way that j MK whiffs on airborne reversal and you still get cl MP (1) x MK jinchu -> Oniyama. That's still a big hit to SA2's potential for sure tho.
this was reminiscent of the older primer videos which is cool. I always hate it when people only play newer games in the series so the older ones become obsolete or everyone flocks to the new ones. Kinda sad it happened to 5 because it ended up being a cool game in the end but thats the way. tangent aside those primer vids and stuff like this Oro vid from such an old game is still fun to see discussions about.
I wasn’t a fan of SFV but I wholeheartedly agree. New games don’t invalidate the old ones and I hate the dismissive attitude so much of the FGC has towards older games!
Bafael pulling off some of the most precise and hardest combos in the game but simultaneously using Sa2 Oro against an Aegis Urien during Jwong’s tournament was wild af ngl
Sick video, I love matchup information like this. I'd like to see similar stuff from other character specialists. Also I know people are gonna meme about SA1, but do you ever mess with it? Is there a potential tier list for "how good SA1 is against the cast", disregarding that you would never pick it otherwise?
@@kremkong4322 It doesn't have large combos, it doesn't have unblockables, it doesn't have crazy pressure. The command grab is ok but even landing it twice isn't as good as even just EX tengu stone stuff, and you'll almost never land it twice in one activate anyway.
Against Urien you have basically every possible SA2 usage. Regular loops, corner setups, HK stomp to switch sides in the corner, cr HP into SA2 and with the hard knockdown you do EX sphere into an unblockable, EX oniyama into high stun routes and you can even go for Kuroda setup and instant j MK him in such a way that the j MK actually hits him crouching or as a crossup if he tries to stand block, making it an actual unblockable instant j MK. But Urien can piano headbutt, which in my experience it means he has an extremely reliable method of getting out of loops. If it wasn't for this I imagine SA2 Oro would be nightmarish for him.
At my low level, I always consider ryu and denjin ryu to be different characters based on how wildly different they play and their usage/non-usage of ex. So a slot for SA1 could've been done But otherwise this is an insanely educational resource
I feel like against a lot of low health characters like Chun li could benefit SA2 for the corner reset from Cr.HP into medium super, then using EX fireball for a high/low 50/50. I see a lot of intermediate oro’s do this but I don’t know how effective of a set up it is, is it actually strong or just a knowledge check?
@@blooskei5388 it's good against every char but against some chars it gives outright unblockables, the rest just overhead low resets that are quite strong

Why is Oro's BNB called chicken combo? I've always assumed its because the kick special translated to chicken scratch or chicken feet but apparently it doesn't.
I guess it's because he sounds like a chicken when he does it alongside him being very wrinkled like chicken legs, also he is red and yellow like a chicken

Hey Baf (or anyone that can answer this), I have an Oro question. How do you get the short animation neutral throw? I’m specifically thinking about the neutral throw into SA2 setup.
It lasts until you get 6 hits or the opponent mashes out. The flip out animation is always the same but when it happens is based on your opponent's mashing and not in your control
You forgot the fact that u should pick SA1 against Twelve and Sean to even the playing field.

Why is Oro's BNB called chicken combo? I've always assumed its because the kick special translated to chicken scratch or chicken feet but apparently it doesn't.
Because some FGC boomer like 20 years ago called the move "chicken kick" for some inane reason and it caught on and that's just what it's called now.
Chicken scratch was a fan name for it cuz no one is gonna call it jinchuu watari or w/e it's actually called
