I am late to the party, but I just got a micro 9. Thank you for your time and effort to do this informative video, that all of us will benefit from. Had a very heavy trigger pull. I bought the m*carbo spring kit. wow what a difference, took it to about a 3 1/2 lb trigger pull, well worth the $24.00. They also make a heavier recoil spring, that I did not purchase. Several hundred rounds of 124 gr and no problems. I do under 3" consistent at 10 yards, many groups smaller.

I received the Kimber micro9 two tone as a gift, it came with a 7 round magazine, I replaced the slippery grips with G10 grips and replaced the 3 dot white sights with XS sights, and purchased an extra magazine (all this was personal preference), that said the firearm works perfectly with Hollow points, flat-nose, and ball-ammo, this was with 115 and 124 grain. Disassembly for cleaning was not bad, I also removed the firing pin and extractor and cleaned them also, this was after taking to the range and ran 250 rounds through it. At 10 and 12 yards I was able to get 2 -3 inch groups. I have not shot it with the XS sights yet. Overall I really like it and will be in my carry rotation especially when wearing nicer clothes like going out to dinner or church.

My excellent experience with my Micro 9 encouraged me to buy my 2 Micros (380ACP). My Micro 9 is same as yours, except the grips are Crimson Trace. Then I picked up a basic Micro, black rubber grips, black sights. I may upgrade the sights, but they are fine for plinking. My 3rd was your gun’s baby brother, Micro Stainless with Rosewood grips. Considering adding a Micro 9 Belair to the fold...but probably not this year. My Micro 9 is my EDC, it eats anything, heavy, light, I run my own loads through it, and it absolutely loves 95gr JHP that were originally ordered for my Kimber Micros and my Springfield 911s. Winter carry is my Kimber Master Carry Pro CC in 45 ACP.

    • @markr6754
      @markr6754 4 года назад

@Leviathan 77 the after market Crimson Trace laser grips are quite pricey, but are much more reasonable from the factory. The front strap is rubber and contains the activation button, which falls right under my middle finger. In my opinion it makes a really nice gun look even more appealing. My Micros don’t have the Crimson Trace, but I sure wish one of them did.

I just picked up a shot show special from Bass Pro. Haven't shot it yet. When I was putting it back together after a field strip I noticed the recoil spring and rod were finiky to fit back in the slide. Tip: rotate/align the tip of the spring to be against the slide (barrel side) instead of random. The width of the spring is perfect to align the guide rod into the hole. If the tip of the spring is away from the slide, it is a fiddle fight to get it in the hole and past the barrel pivot at the same time.

I have that same model. The rear sight fell off and the guide rod actually broke during the first 50 rounds I put through it. The mag feed lips were kind of rough when they were new, and caused the rounds to nose dive when they tried to feed. I buffed them out with an emery board and that solved the issue.
I also had light primer strikes. When I sent it back to Kimber for the rear sight falling off, they also polished the chamber and that seemed to make the light primer strikes go away.
Now that I put about 200-300 rounds through it, it shoots fine.

It's issues depicted in this video and the others in comments like yours that motivated me to cancel my order for a Micro 9 ESV today. There's simply no way to justify reliability problems in a pistol in the $1K price range out of the box, especially one expected to be a carry gun.
Having to hack the gun/magazine to get it to work reliably? No way - for the money, it either works, or it's out of the running for me.

Very fair review. I bought a Kimber micro 9 and I was not impressed at all, especially with the lack of quality control. Both mine and my friends consistently fired high and right with many malfunctions out of the box until I field stripped and cleaned the weapon, followed by drifting the sight. For the price and name of the weapon I expected more. Ended up selling it and continued to use my Sig 365 which was far superior and cost less. I have a 15 year old full-size Kimber in .45 and it was far superior out of the box. Quality control has gone to shit since Kimber started the mass production of pistols in my opinion.

I can’t believe all the positive reviews. I]within a month after I purchased the Micro-9, I had problems…When you watch other reviews there are major negative issues that several RUclipsrs complained about, including me. Rounds hang up after racking a round, dropping the magazine to fix the hang up, the top round falls out of the magazine, misfires all the time (with 115-124 gr). I was afraid to CCW due to the constant mishaps. I was really pissed because it’s a nice mini-1911…I sent the Micro-9 back to Kimber as did the other reviewers, and Kimber modified the gun by; re-finished barrel, chamber reamed, polished feed ramp, replaced magazine springs, firing pin and spring. Kimber recommends shooting with 147 gr. Other RUclipsrs complained that the issue is the Kimber magazines and suggested replacing the magazines with Sig Sauer P938 magazines… which I did… I haven’t gone to the range yet, but will provide an update when I do…

I agree with you. I've owned the Kimber Micro 9 for less than a year. I also own the Kimber Stainless II .45ACP and a whole host of other handguns as, for example, H&P P2000; Walther P99; Sig Sauer P229 .40/.357; Canik Elite TPS9; and a Walther .40 S&W and a Beretta .40S&W both of which I gave to my brother.
I consider myself a novice, but I have a love for the craftsmanship of beautiful handguns. It is akin to my appreciation for Omega Speedmasters and Rolex wrist watches.
I've taken my Kimber Micro 9 to an outside range where I was solo. I've not yet put 500 rounds through the Micro 9 as Kimber recommends. But I will say there were several hang-ups with the magazines. It seems the bullets in the Kimber mags do not always feed properly. I doubt it has to do with the weight (grains) of the bullets or the type (FMJ or hollow points). It just seems as if the Kimber mags do not keep the bullets in a flush back-set position when they feed, occasionally causing a failure to load. I called Kimber to complain. A tech at Kimber told me to continue to use regular "target ammo" and not a "steady diet" of + P ammo. This makes sense since the feeding ramp to the barrel needs to be "naturally" smoothened out to receive the bullets. But please, please do not polish the barrel yourselves. It will void the warranty and upset the intended purpose of the break-in period of the handgun. JMHO after all. We'll see how my Micro 9 regulates itself after a few hundred more rounds.
Maybe the author is right and a new review of this video would be interesting. But I still have a novice belief that the issue with the bullets staying flush back in the magazine causes a feeding problem. In fact, one YT video commenter recommend using mags from a different company and augmenting them to fit the Kimber Micro 9. He also recommend changing the spring tension from 11 lbs to about 23 lbs. I can't vouch for his recommendations, but his video is on YT and you can decide for yourself. The truth is, not all Kimber Micro 9 users are confident enough to depend upon these handguns under emergent circumstances. I'm not convinced either, at least not yet.

In reality i carried my micro9 almost all the time and find myself carrying my 365xl much less. My glock 19 even less than that. The gun you carry is always, always better than the one you don't. The reliability, capability, and capacity all go to the glock 19, for sure, but it's not physically smooth and rounded, light enough, or with a short enough barrel for carrying all day, driving any length of time, etc. inside the waistband. OWB at 3 o'clock would work but that sacrifices basically all concealment. I find I'd rather just leave it at home. That's why i always say the gun you carry is better than the one you don't.

Be aware that just using the descriptor "1911" leaves room for interpretation - without more info, people aren't going to automatically understand what you're talking about.
Why? Simply because the term "1911" now refers to only a STYLE or DESIGN of a pistol, not a SPECIFIC pistol, OR caliber, and that includes which ammo the gun is chambered for.
Example: This video is about a 9mm gun. But "1911" has historically been used to refer to "1911" pistols in .45 ACP caliber - major difference. Careful with your terminology.

So I went to load and fire for the first time and the first round I tried to chamber didn't get past the feed ramp. The magazine was also trying to double feed rounds.

Oh jeez that isn’t good. I didn’t have any problems with mine but I did end up selling it and buying a shield, which I had problems with

I cant justify the price on these when half have to back to the factory on day one for failure to feed and only able to shoot 124 grains.

Enough with the glock comparison. Hopefully you learned and opened up your eyes. I do agree with the mag con. They could do better.

My Kimber micro 9 is unreliable. It jams with 2 rounds left in the mag. The pro at BasPro says don’t use anything less than 147 gr. That’s $30 a box, still occasionally jams. I love the look and the night sights. But I can’t rely on it for a carry weapon.

Agree...Anytime they tell you it has the run on a particular ammo from now on I’m going to be leery of purchase

I have yet to have any issues with my Micro 9 I love it! Only thing is I wish they would give you more than one mag 😂

My brothers micro 9, has problems with the "spair" mag he bought, (yes its a factory kimber). He told me he polished the feed ramp, and now the new mags feeds fine. (His edc).

billy bass pro is crap... I shoot 115 grain all the time without trouble. Sounds like the tools at BP were trying to up sell you expensive ammo.

That was a complete and honest review. I would love to know what you paid for it and the date of purchase just for price point reference. Not many reviews give that. I think it’s a plus. Great video!!👍👍

Early summer 2019, I want to say I paid around 550 for it. I think there was some sort of sale on so I might’ve got a little bit cheaper but definitely in between 5 and 600$

I bought one today for $525. I haven’t shot it yet, but based on my 1911 history with them, I’m confident it’s a shooter.
