Fear Factory is one of the bands that popularized the aggressive verses, with the clean voice in the choruses! They are a linchpin in the history of metal! Ha!

Fear Factory are pioneers. They deserve so much more credit. Slipknot, Static-X, Machine Head, many other successful or even legendary bands credit Fear Factory for their influence in their music. But they've always flown under the radar. Definitely check out some of their other stuff. Linchpin is okay, but it's far from their best.
EDIT: G - GOJIRA (is there really any other choice? i mean, really.)

Definitely do more Fear Factory, I give you mad props for being the 1st reactionist to do a Fear Factory song. Somehow this band is criminally underrated in the metal community. FF are an amazing band. This is arguably one of their "accessible" songs; their albums are riddled with blastbeats, odd keys, weird time signatures and electronic bloop noises, but they generally take time to make sure they stick a couple of rock-club floor fillers into each of their albums just to keep everyone headbanging along.

They tried to be mainstream with Digimortal (which this song is part of), but it created friction in the band, and caused a brief split.
In a similar vein, Transgression also had a more streamlined sound, and it too caused the band to split apart.
I'd say this shows that this band is simply not suited to be a mainstream band, as they lose their unique sound when they try to do that. Besides, their effect on the metal scene is very obvious. A lot of modern bands that incorporate screaming and clean vocals do so because this band showed them that it could be done.

This song is from and album that is a concept album produced by Rhys Fulber of Front Line Assembly. The album is a story of the society being absorbed by machines and computers becoming like a hive, humans become slaves, like the Matrix or the Borg of Star Trek. The song Linch Pin is like you said a cry for individuality he his trying to escape the hive. Front Line Assembly is a EBM band with aggressive sounds that in the late 90's put out an album called Millennium in which they had radically changed their sound incorporating samples of metal songs to add to the dark landscape of their already soundscapes of apocalyptic future. Rhys helped Fear Factory develop their sound on a transition of a very metal album of Demanufacture to the Polished tight sound found on Obsolete, which is where the song Linch Pin is from.

This is an unusual one. I am sure you can appreciate big voices from the metal scene.
Do you remember that Fergie performance of the American national anthem?
    Do you want goosebumps?
Meet corporal Matt Barlow ex-Iced Earth vocalist who was in and out of the band changing between vocalist and police patrol.
Check out "watch?v=09RXJeX6ajA" of an epic acapella rendition of America's national anthem of one of the big legend voices in metal :) - or even better - combo it with an Iced Earth song from the Barlow period.

Linchpin's subject matter isn't as clear as a lot of Fear Factory's other songs. I'm not gonna say you picked a bad choice to react to (it's one of their more accessible songs for sure), but it doesn't convey what FF is all about compared to some of their other songs.
Their music has a heavily dystopian influence. It's all about advancing technology and loss of humanity. On the surface it's machine apocalypse stuff - y'know, Terminator-type thing. But I think there's a layer of allegory there as well, that as humanity and their society grow more mechanized, we are in danger of losing touch with ourselves and the things that make us human.
Or maybe it's just about killer robots oppressing humanity's last survivors. What do I know.
Anyway, thank you for reacting to Fear Factory. I hope you will do more of them in the future. I suggest songs like Self Bias Resistor, Edgecrusher, and Archetype.
Also, just for your own sake (you don't need to do a reaction vid) check out Back the F*** Up, which is off the same album as Linchpin. B. Real from Cypress Hill does guest vocals on it. I think you'll love it.

Well said. Part of the original draw that FF had for me (I started listening to them just before Demanufacture came out, I actually had it day 1) was their lyric content, which is heavily influenced by George Orwell's 1984 (still my favourite book). I also read Soul of a New Machine way back when (very dry read, imo).

    • @tajbaber9425
      @tajbaber9425 5 лет назад +4

It kind of a running theme for this band. Obsolete is a concept album that tells a complete story from beginning to end of a rebel in a world consumed by technology and devoid of any soul. Edgecrusher being that rebel. One great song after another.
