Solo came out in the middle of the Last Jedi boycott and suffered badly but the fact people are still talking about it shows how good it really was. Solo is a gem of a movie in its genre.
Harlock2day well here’s the good news it wasn’t the boycott that did this to the movie not one bit at all it’s that it was released when other bigger movies were out *cough* marvel

Based on the ending, imagine what a sequel could have looked like. They hint that a sequel/sequels would've focused on how Han got involved with Jabba, which could have lead to seeing his first encounters with Boba Fett, Greedo, etc. Imagine if Han ended up in the middle of a crime war between the Hutts and Crimson Dawn, where he has to choose to either help Qira, or finish whatever bargain he has with Jabba. If it were a trilogy, like they were planning, the third film could've lead right into the events of A New Hope as Han and Chewie help take down Crimson Dawn and head off to Tatooine to meet with Jabba.
In the comics, it's revealed that "solo" is a secret term in the Empire that marks the person as an idiot to be picked on. When the recruitment officer "names" him, he's actually putting a target on his back moving forward. The officer is actually malicious despite appearing nice.
Going back to this video just to say: Darth Maul was already established as a rising crime-lord in Clone Wars, so I think it makes slightly more sense for the leader of Crimson Dawn to be Maul. And the name of the gang is clever since Dathomir has a red sun, so… yeah.
I ended up loving Solo, but in retrospect, it would have done better as a short streaming series. That would have given audiences more time to accept Alden as Han and dig into the new underworld elements they established. While the poor box office precludes a sequel film, I'm hoping they at least revisit characters like Maul, Qi'ra and Enfys Nest in, say, the Cassian Andor series.
@@GB-sh9st I agree. In fact, I didn't like Rogue One, period. I loved it the first time i watched it and i enjoy it the same each time. This is an accidental cinematic masterpiece with something so many franchises FAIL to get right. New within the old. This is conceptually, a better force awakens.
I never expected you to reply because I thought this comment would be lost in a sea of other thousands of others like your TLJ video. I thought it was good in my opinion because while I fully understand why Lucasfilm went with that disision and can get use it, I was never a big fan of Maul appearing in Solo. Yeah, it's unfortunate that 1 film sends half an online fanbase crazy. If social media and RUclips was around during AOTC I think it would have been the same. And while I have your attention I just want to say that I agree with virtually everything you said in this video as well as your TLJ and TFA one. And do you think you can do one of R1 at some point?
Joseph Iorio he only said stuff like this is so amazing, this is fun to look at etc. He didn’t give any real ”proof” to back up his claims. Everything was just so wonderful in his mind. He also shat on the other youtubers who were doing the same thing in reverse. 40 minutes of no real analysis or critical thinking just fanboying all over the place.
It's refreshing to see someone actually talking about filmmaking like scores, cinematography, and production design rather than what the best/worst references, Star Wars lore, and what you personally thought the movie would be.
I actually liked the Darth Maul inclusion, in Clone Wars, at least besides season 7 which came out after Solo, the last time you see him he is in charge of a newly formed crime syndicate, so for this SW crime movie, him in charge was really cool. That’s just me tho.
I have Solo many times and rally enjoy it too. I never believed the haters that I should not see it and I agree about a sequel. I would definitely see it.
Solo was a great movie. I cannot believe it's been 2 years now since I went to see it in May 2018. One of the best science fiction movies I watched on the big screen since 2005. Alden Ehrenreich was the perfect choice to play young Han Solo and he nailed it and gave an enjoyable performance. Donald Glover was perfectly cast as young Lando Calrissian. A Great and enjoyable action packed sci-fi action adventure movie. I would had liked to had seen more of Alden Ehrenreich as young Han Solo. I own a Qi'Ra Funko Pop because of the movie.
When he said that "Solo" was part "American Graffiti" because HEY! AMERICAN GRAFFITI WAS DONE BY GEORGE LUCAS, SO THAT'S EXTREMELY FITTING! God I love it when that happens.
After finishing it yesterday since I last in theatres, which I actually was solo as being the only one in the theatre. It is my now my favourite star wars series.
Your point about Maul is interesting but I think with the arc in the clone wars where Maul recruits all the crime syndicates to be part of his plot to take over mandalore and now clone wars season 7 and the siege of mandalore where we see Dryden for a brief moment, Maul’s inclusion in this movie makes way more sense. Although I did like your idea that it could have been snoke and how that would tie into the new trilogy. But that aside I really enjoy your content and your Star Wars critiques are hilarious and also, in my opinion, exactly right. I was one of the die hard haters of TLJ because I felt it didn’t flow right with the other two movies, but after watching your video about it, I actually agreed with everything you brought up and have a new appreciation for the movie as a whole. Thank you for that and keep up the good work.

They set up way too much shit to not do a sequel of some kind.
Don't talk shit on my man Rio. In all seriousness I think it shows the strength of the movie that a character you might not care for ended up being one of my favorites, there's a little something for everyone.
I went into this movie expecting to dislike it, but I really really liked it. More people should give it a chance. I really wish this would get a sequel because I would be so interested in Darth Maul finally getting into another movie.
I literally adored this movie; great story, great characters both old and new, enormously fun, insanely rewatchable, and pretty much just a love letter to the character of Han Solo (my ONLY criticism in this regard is that the way he got his name was pretty stupid). Unfortunately the movie was predominantly a victim of extremely poor marketing; it was released less than a month after Infinity War, which was a terrible decision, and I'm sure it didn't get ANY kind of advertisement until about two months before its release. Why Disney didn't just stick with the December slot they've used for all of their other SW films is beyond me, since the Holiday period is both a marketing goldmine and also generally quite dry in terms of cinema competition. Of course, it also didn't help that the movie was boycotted by a bunch of self-entitled "fans" who'd decided that "nobody wanted this movie", even though quite a lot of us clearly did.
Cheers for you referencing SALÓ: 120 DAYS OF SODOM (1975)... which I own on blu-ray. 🍻 Thanks so much for this video, Lee! Here's hoping Star Wars News Net's #MakeSolo2Happen campaign is successful. It could be an enjoyable Disney+ series (coprophagia optional). 😜
I actually agree with you on this one. I actually really really liked solo, after the dumpster fire that was the last Jedi, I was happy with what solo achieved, despite its shortcomings
I think you got that backwards; Snoke should have been Maul. After hiding in shadows for years he sees his chance after battle of Endor. He takes control of Imperial remnant and seeks to make the offsprings of Vader and Palpatine his servants...or destroy them. What a revenge. It was a huge mistake to kill Maul in the tv series.
I agree - I really did enjoy this movie. I do question the suggestion to replace Maul though, namely because by now, he's been rejected by Palpatine and is just Maul, not Darth Maul at this point (which we can assume from his weird half-inquisitor lightsaber mashup, as opposed to something like the Darksaber). I don't think there was any intention to bring Qi'ra on as a sith apprentice, but rather, to run his crime syndicate which we see in The Clone Wars.
This movie kinda reminds me of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy Han - Arthur Dent Chewie - Ford Prefect Kira - Trillian Lando - Zaphod Beeblebrox Becket - Slartibartfast L3 - Marvin/Eddie The Millennium Falcon - The Heart of God I know some comparisons are a bit of a streach but when I saw Solo I couldn't help my head reminding me this is like my favorite book and sci-fi movie.
I'd actually like to see a continuation of the story but with different characters. Kiras and Crimson Dawn, Enfys nest etc. Basically anyone BUT Han Solo.
In my opinion solo is definitely underrated, and like the prequels they get better the more you know about Star Wars. And it’s a good, fun movie, not just a popcorn flick
I went into Solo expecting to not give a crap. I ended up liking it more than any other Disney SW film so far. It’s a lot of fun and doesn’t piss me off too much. BTW that excellent opening track was the one piece on the soundtrack that was written by John Williams.
"Why? Just Why?" Because if they can use (Darth) Maul to establish placement in the Timeline given what he's in charge of at the time, play fucking ball, that's why.
Apologies if I offended anyone who really liked seeing Darth Maul in the film. To me, it just felt way too random. I only suggest Snoke instead because I think it's a little more fitting, but the film really didn't need either one of them. Qi'ra's arc would have been great either way.
Loved the video, but had two gripes. First is that the Teras Kasi reference wasn't referring to the video game, but rather hinting to Maul being the leader of Crimson Dawn. Maul is said to be a master of the Teras Kasi fighting style, it's why he's such a great physical fighter. So yeah, Maul taught Dryden, who--in turn--taught Qi'ra. Second is--no--Snoke shouldn't have been in Maul's place. It wouldn't have even made sense. Maul has been a crime lord, not Snoke. So it contradicts continuity. Furthermore, it wouldn't have the same impact, because we haven't seen Maul in live action since 1999. Last we saw Maul he was killed. This came also held implications for Maul to plausibly play a lager role in live action again, and it was a great way to show the films acknowledge the animated series' continuity.
This points out both it's strength and it's weakness: it was all over the place. The opposite of the very self-contained Rogue One. Thats exactly why it needs a sequel or two, to flesh out its little corner of the galaxy and the all the new stuff together.
I was re-watching the Coen's "Hail Caesar" last week and I was so impressed by the actor who played actor Hobie Doyle. That, and I was certain that I knew him from somewhere else. Before the film ended I was able to recognize him as Alden Ehrenreich! Then, moment by moment, throughout the remainder of the Cohen Bros film, seeing him now as Han Solo, I could really see the ingrained talent of the actor playing an actor who acted as Han in Solo. I'll willingly attest to feeling as though I was going to hate this film (Solo) as it got going via the speeder chase seen. It was the music. Totally over the top right out the outset of the movie. But soon the show found it's legs, and, in the end, I had fun despite the dank critical reception I'd read before buying a ticket anyway. I like this movie. I like these characters. And, as I watched Ehrenreich deliver a totally convincing Audie Murphy in Hail Ceasar, I found myself, like you you, wishing there was a Solo sequel. The only thing off putting about my whole Solo experience thus far is the language in this walk-through. YIKES!
"Solo" and "The Last Jedi" are the two Star Wars movies I re-watch the most these days! ,...and I thought I was the only one who thought Snoke would have made more sense. Great movie, but I don't feel the need for another one.

I loved it the first time i watched it and i enjoy it the same each time. This is an accidental cinematic masterpiece with something so many franchises FAIL to get right.
New within the old. This is conceptually, a better force awakens.
That C3PO joke was good. Kudos! You actually made me lol.
"It sounds like a bunch of little Enfys Nests are singing" haha
That Snoke part of the video... omg I love that idea. Seriously, Ron Howard, John and Lawrence Kasdan should have done that.
Some people love it. Some people insulted me for it. This is the state of SW fandom. Completely divided.
Never clicked a video faster. Loved your TLJ vids
And I love you.
It’s possibly the worst video defending TLJ in existence.

Name one thing that was so bad about it
Joseph Iorio he only said stuff like this is so amazing, this is fun to look at etc. He didn’t give any real ”proof” to back up his claims. Everything was just so wonderful in his mind. He also shat on the other youtubers who were doing the same thing in reverse. 40 minutes of no real analysis or critical thinking just fanboying all over the place.
Justus
I mean, I admit it was a bit harsh to other people and was too soft on the movie, but he did bring up some good points, that I can come across
It's refreshing to see someone actually talking about filmmaking like scores, cinematography, and production design rather than what the best/worst references, Star Wars lore, and what you personally thought the movie would be.
Well, hopefully we're getting a Han and Lando tv show that takes place after solo.
I actually liked the Darth Maul inclusion, in Clone Wars, at least besides season 7 which came out after Solo, the last time you see him he is in charge of a newly formed crime syndicate, so for this SW crime movie, him in charge was really cool. That’s just me tho.
I loved solo. It was fucking awesome! The ending lost me with maul though idk what happen to q'ira.
I have Solo many times and rally enjoy it too. I never believed the haters that I should not see it and I agree about a sequel. I would definitely see it.
Actually this movie made me want to see a film made from the Empire perspective.
26:00 *Plot twist* The little green thing is the larval stage of Greedo.
Solo was pretty good. I was surprised by the amount of clone wars tie-ins. Wish there was more on the way.
The way they surprise you with chewbacca being the beast is the way I wanted the hulk to be introduced in ragnarok.
If they made a Sequel to Solo, they would have to call it Sequel
Definitely deserves a sequel it's definitely an underrated gem and one of my favorite Star Wars movies
Solo was such a great piece of entertainment.
I agree with a lot of what you said, but replacing Maul with Snoke because of Han Solo and Ben is frankly a shit idea
If they made a solo 2 I think they would somehow put boba Fett in as a semi-sidekick-villain
Omg the little green guy part lmao
Would like to see Maul do some traumatic force ability to Han like he did to Jesse to get him to disbelieve in the force entirely
Glad I’m not the only one I freaking loved this movie tbh 🤩
Bro you are so funnyy i hope you keep these videos up love them all do more game reviews

Oh and also, there totally needs to be a Solo 2. If not a movie, then a Disney+ series or something.
Happy someone gave this movie some appreciation
This movie kinda reminds me of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
Han - Arthur Dent
Chewie - Ford Prefect
Kira - Trillian
Lando - Zaphod Beeblebrox
Becket - Slartibartfast
L3 - Marvin/Eddie
The Millennium Falcon - The Heart of God
I know some comparisons are a bit of a streach but when I saw Solo I couldn't help my head reminding me this is like my favorite book and sci-fi movie.
I'd actually like to see a continuation of the story but with different characters. Kiras and Crimson Dawn, Enfys nest etc. Basically anyone BUT Han Solo.
It's a buddy / heist movie... what's not to love? This was an awesome movie and I want more like it!
In my opinion solo is definitely underrated, and like the prequels they get better the more you know about Star Wars. And it’s a good, fun movie, not just a popcorn flick
I liked this film. It was pretty good most of the time. Some times (a lot of the time) it was really just 😐😐😐
But overall it was fun and exciting.
I’ve seen Solo more than anyone on this planet, please for the love of God get me Solo 2
Not true, he seen it 80 times (no really I have)
I went into Solo expecting to not give a crap.
This and Rogue One were great. I really do not get the hate for this film. I would watch the shit out of another Solo film or two.
Snoke idea was the best thing I’ve ever heard until The Rise of Skywalker pooped on your idea
Fuck it, I want another solo movie
Now that I think about it, Solo wasn’t that bad of a film, it was just caught in the middle of all the Kennedy hate and so it’s flaws were amplified
I thought Ehrenreich said he was signed on for 3 movies
So did the stars of Rogue One
@@athenajaxon2397 what? Serioisly? AFAIK Rogue One always ended with all of them dying
Imagine if Maul was the antagonist of the sequels
obi wan killed him and he probably would have been either dead or way too old by then
Apologies if I offended anyone who really liked seeing Darth Maul in the film. To me, it just felt way too random. I only suggest Snoke instead because I think it's a little more fitting, but the film really didn't need either one of them. Qi'ra's arc would have been great either way.
Maj0r Lee I agree wholeheartedly. Great video!
No offense taken. Really, anything works better than the "it doesn't matter" explanation they gave us in The Last Jedi.
No hard feelings
@Harry D Love you too Harry.
@Harry D No
Loved the video, but had two gripes.
This movie is great, it will grow on people over time
Great review. Solo truly deserves a sequel
What's your take on the alt-right attaching to Joker? In great irony they are the type of people who abandon those like Arthur Fleck.
Major Lee needs subscription , underrated channel
Forget Solo. *Maj0r Lee* needs a million subscribers!
I'm all aboard a sequel,as long as it's called "Second:A Star Wars sequel"
Alden Ehrenreich pulled off a performance miracle by sounding like Han Solo but also making the role his own
"Darth Maul should've been Snoke"
Or... Snoke should've been Darth Maul
