Based on the ending, imagine what a sequel could have looked like.
They hint that a sequel/sequels would've focused on how Han got involved with Jabba, which could have lead to seeing his first encounters with Boba Fett, Greedo, etc.
Imagine if Han ended up in the middle of a crime war between the Hutts and Crimson Dawn, where he has to choose to either help Qira, or finish whatever bargain he has with Jabba.
If it were a trilogy, like they were planning, the third film could've lead right into the events of A New Hope as Han and Chewie help take down Crimson Dawn and head off to Tatooine to meet with Jabba.

In the comics, it's revealed that "solo" is a secret term in the Empire that marks the person as an idiot to be picked on. When the recruitment officer "names" him, he's actually putting a target on his back moving forward. The officer is actually malicious despite appearing nice.

I ended up loving Solo, but in retrospect, it would have done better as a short streaming series. That would have given audiences more time to accept Alden as Han and dig into the new underworld elements they established. While the poor box office precludes a sequel film, I'm hoping they at least revisit characters like Maul, Qi'ra and Enfys Nest in, say, the Cassian Andor series.

Solo 2 would have been a bounty hunter Avengers-type heist movie (which the Boba Fett movie was meant to tie into all those years back), featuring all the notable Bounty Hunters. This would have been where Han drops his cargo before getting boarded by the Empire, and Jabba puts a hit on him. The third would have been the showdown with Maul & Qi'ra. Qi'ra was more of the villain with Maul being a secondary character, with Han being forced to kill Qi'ra. Not much was developed for the third.

    • @Radb707
      @Radb707 4 года назад

Return of the Jedi was pretty bad for a couple decades but now we just remember Palpatine being awesome and forget about ewoks and boba fett killed (possibly) by a blind man. Phantom Menace was the worst for awhile but I rewatched it and the amount of work put into creature design, set design, art, special effects is ridiculous, and doing the Gollum thing with Jar Jar long before Lord of the Rings is impressive. More and more it's Attack of the Clones that doesn't hold up. The last third is fantastic but the rest is just ok. I also get really confused when Dooku lays out the entire Sith plan to Obi-Wan, tells him the Senate is compromised, basically offering him a get out of Order 66 card, and Obi is like "Nah, I don't believe you". You get the sense Dooku has no interest in the Sith, he's just picking the winning side. He's just going along with the plan cuz he knows how flawed the Jedi are. Then that totally changes in the Clone Wars. The Force Awakens gets so much shit but it's exactly the movie it was intended be. You needed a palette cleanser after the prequel trilogy. You needed REAL sets. You needed that Original Trilogy feel. It delivered. It set up upcoming conflict and gave Han a good send off and gave you a reason to hate Ben Solo. But instead audiences hated Rey. The Last Jedi....there's so much good shit in there...and yet so much awful shit. Or half cocked ideas that they then had to full cock in Rise. Speaking of Rise...i really liked it when I saw it. It made me feel good, and the ideas I was initially disgusted with....made more sense when I thought about it. Except Ben dying and not being at all involved in Palpatine's end. The rest of his life spent atoning for his sins is infinitely more interesting. But like TFA, it's almost exactly the movie it needed to be. But the fact it was on a time schedule, the fact Abrams and Terrio had to write and do preproduction on a tight schedule because the previous director was fired, the fact they had to edit the movie on the fly, the fact carrie fisher died and so they couldn't do half the scenes with Rose they had intended to, etc etc...
      Sorry for the rant.

It was leaked that Greedo and Bossk were both going to be in the sequel, alongside IG-88, Boba Fett and other bounty hunters. It was going to be somewhat of a heist movie, think Bounty Hunter Avengers, all of whom were recruited by Jabba. Qi'ra wasn't going to reappear until the third, and Maul wouldn't have been a main villain until that same movie. This was the 'big job' that Beckett references, and would have involved the Empire, with this movie being the one in which Han 'drops his cargo at the first sign of the Empire'. The third was vaguely planned, with Qi'ra being the main villain that Han is forced to kill.

Solo is the best Star Wars prequel. There, I said it.
Unlike Episodes 1-3 and Rogue One this film actually had relatable characters we care about, plus thrilling action sequences and Easter eggs that felt earned rather than shoehorned in. Plus Woody f'n Harrelson! Aiden made a pretty great Han, bringing to life this beloved character in a way that's true to Harrison Ford without just being an imitation. And Donald Glover was a damn fine Lando. My only real complaint about this movie is that it's so visually dark. Like, way too underlit. Why did they filter it this way?
But I agree, this film deserves a sequel; they left a ton of room for further story development.

Your point about Maul is interesting but I think with the arc in the clone wars where Maul recruits all the crime syndicates to be part of his plot to take over mandalore and now clone wars season 7 and the siege of mandalore where we see Dryden for a brief moment, Maul’s inclusion in this movie makes way more sense. Although I did like your idea that it could have been snoke and how that would tie into the new trilogy. But that aside I really enjoy your content and your Star Wars critiques are hilarious and also, in my opinion, exactly right. I was one of the die hard haters of TLJ because I felt it didn’t flow right with the other two movies, but after watching your video about it, I actually agreed with everything you brought up and have a new appreciation for the movie as a whole. Thank you for that and keep up the good work.

All that aside I really enjoy your content and your Star Wars critiques are hilarious and also, in my opinion, exactly right. I was one of the die hard haters of TLJ, but after watching your video about it, I actually agreed with everything you brought up and have a new appreciation for the movie as a whole. Thank you for that and keep up the good work.
Oh and also, there totally needs to be a Solo 2. If not a movie, then a Disney+ series or something. They set up way too much shit to not do a sequel of some kind.

Don't talk shit on my man Rio.
In all seriousness I think it shows the strength of the movie that a character you might not care for ended up being one of my favorites, there's a little something for everyone.

I went into this movie expecting to dislike it, but I really really liked it. More people should give it a chance. I really wish this would get a sequel because I would be so interested in Darth Maul finally getting into another movie.

I literally adored this movie; great story, great characters both old and new, enormously fun, insanely rewatchable, and pretty much just a love letter to the character of Han Solo (my ONLY criticism in this regard is that the way he got his name was pretty stupid).
Unfortunately the movie was predominantly a victim of extremely poor marketing; it was released less than a month after Infinity War, which was a terrible decision, and I'm sure it didn't get ANY kind of advertisement until about two months before its release. Why Disney didn't just stick with the December slot they've used for all of their other SW films is beyond me, since the Holiday period is both a marketing goldmine and also generally quite dry in terms of cinema competition.
Of course, it also didn't help that the movie was boycotted by a bunch of self-entitled "fans" who'd decided that "nobody wanted this movie", even though quite a lot of us clearly did.

Cheers for you referencing SALÓ: 120 DAYS OF SODOM (1975)... which I own on blu-ray. 🍻 Thanks so much for this video, Lee! Here's hoping Star Wars News Net's #MakeSolo2Happen campaign is successful. It could be an enjoyable Disney+ series (coprophagia optional). 😜

I think you got that backwards; Snoke should have been Maul. After hiding in shadows for years he sees his chance after battle of Endor. He takes control of Imperial remnant and seeks to make the offsprings of Vader and Palpatine his servants...or destroy them. What a revenge. It was a huge mistake to kill Maul in the tv series.

I agree - I really did enjoy this movie. I do question the suggestion to replace Maul though, namely because by now, he's been rejected by Palpatine and is just Maul, not Darth Maul at this point (which we can assume from his weird half-inquisitor lightsaber mashup, as opposed to something like the Darksaber). I don't think there was any intention to bring Qi'ra on as a sith apprentice, but rather, to run his crime syndicate which we see in The Clone Wars.

This movie kinda reminds me of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
    Han - Arthur Dent
    Chewie - Ford Prefect
    Kira - Trillian
    Lando - Zaphod Beeblebrox
    Becket - Slartibartfast
    L3 - Marvin/Eddie
The Millennium Falcon - The Heart of God
I know some comparisons are a bit of a streach but when I saw Solo I couldn't help my head reminding me this is like my favorite book and sci-fi movie.

Apologies if I offended anyone who really liked seeing Darth Maul in the film. To me, it just felt way too random. I only suggest Snoke instead because I think it's a little more fitting, but the film really didn't need either one of them. Qi'ra's arc would have been great either way.

Loved the video, but had two gripes. First is that the Teras Kasi reference wasn't referring to the video game, but rather hinting to Maul being the leader of Crimson Dawn. Maul is said to be a master of the Teras Kasi fighting style, it's why he's such a great physical fighter. So yeah, Maul taught Dryden, who--in turn--taught Qi'ra. Second is--no--Snoke shouldn't have been in Maul's place. It wouldn't have even made sense. Maul has been a crime lord, not Snoke. So it contradicts continuity. Furthermore, it wouldn't have the same impact, because we haven't seen Maul in live action since 1999. Last we saw Maul he was killed. This came also held implications for Maul to plausibly play a lager role in live action again, and it was a great way to show the films acknowledge the animated series' continuity.

This points out both it's strength and it's weakness: it was all over the place. The opposite of the very self-contained Rogue One. Thats exactly why it needs a sequel or two, to flesh out its little corner of the galaxy and the all the new stuff together.

I was re-watching the Coen's "Hail Caesar" last week and I was so impressed by the actor who played actor Hobie Doyle. That, and I was certain that I knew him from somewhere else. Before the film ended I was able to recognize him as Alden Ehrenreich! Then, moment by moment, throughout the remainder of the Cohen Bros film, seeing him now as Han Solo, I could really see the ingrained talent of the actor playing an actor who acted as Han in Solo. I'll willingly attest to feeling as though I was going to hate this film (Solo) as it got going via the speeder chase seen. It was the music. Totally over the top right out the outset of the movie. But soon the show found it's legs, and, in the end, I had fun despite the dank critical reception I'd read before buying a ticket anyway. I like this movie. I like these characters. And, as I watched Ehrenreich deliver a totally convincing Audie Murphy in Hail Ceasar, I found myself, like you you, wishing there was a Solo sequel. The only thing off putting about my whole Solo experience thus far is the language in this walk-through. YIKES!
