  • In less than 10 minutes, there she was - emerged and drying her wings. She hung there drying and resting until the next morning. We offered her honey water... but she was ready and just flew away :)

So glad you enjoyed it. I completely forgot this video... had to Shazam to find the music! First one is Piano Concerto No. 2 in C Minor Op.18:II Adagio Sostenuto by Rachmaninov, then the Flower Duet from Lakme.

@@jude4021 Thanks so much for making the effort to find that for me! I really appreciate it. What do you mean you had to "Shazam?"

Stacey Gianoplos oops yeah I should have explained. It’s an app that listens to a snippet of music and then identifies it for you. Very handy! 🙂

It is unfortunate that this particular monarch was positioned such that the hugely over-distended abdomen and it's part in finishing the metamorphosis could really not be seen. Rather than the wings drying, the abdomen begins pumping for all it's worth, pumping that belly full of fluid into the veins of the wings; watching that pumping action causing the wings to move to the beat is simply astounding. Once stiffened, the wings remain in that position for life.
