  • Margie Evans and the Mighty Reapers played many memorable gigs together during her visits to Australia in the 80s and 90s, and this video shows Margie and the Reapers in full flight! The live footage here was filmed at Sydney's legendary Basement, on Tues 18th of January 1994. The following day, Margie and the Reapers went into Sony studios (East Sydney) to record three songs which were included on the Mighty Reapers "Trouble People" album, released that same year (Rufus Records label - available on Bandcamp). Margie and the band went back into the studio in mid 1995 to record a full album for Margie (her first!!) titled "Drowning in the Sea of Love" (also available on Bandcamp). The Mighty Reapers line-up on this 1994 performance is "Continental" Robert Susz (harmonica, vocals), Dave Brewer (guitar, vocals), Vito Portolesi (bass), Antero Ceschin (drums), Rob Woolf (Hammond organ), Samilla Sithole (congas).

Incidental notes: You might notice part-way during the show, Margie is having problems with her eye mascara (!) but she soldiers on regardless!! This video was captured by Ron Lambert (painter and lecturer at East Sydney Tech - NAS) and the filming is a bit "scrappy" at times (!) but I thought the performance was worth sharing. Disclaimer: Ron, being a friend of mine, sometimes has the video camera excessively aimed at me - apologies for this - out of my control !! At the closing moments of this video you'll see a snippet of Ron himself, at Watters Gallery (East Sydney) opening the door to his exhibition, which was on show there at that time!
Sad to say that Margie, Vito, Ron (and Watters Gallery) are all long gone - RIP.
