Think of it like a team jersey-a layer of Nomex, 50-pound packs, eye wear, ear wear, water, and top it off with a hand tool-but this isn’t a game it’s the life and duty of a CCC wildland firefighter. Hauling that gear, hiking into and through rural rugged terrain requires the highest standards of physical fitness. CCC Corpsmembers consider themselves to be professional athletes, putting in extra hours at the gym and training in the field so they’re ready to respond to wildfire.
