My quest to try new places on the highway took me to this never-tried-before dhaba on my way back from Punjab to Delhi - on GT Road at Ganaur. What attracted me to this “Mitran da Dhaba” was their well-lit, colorful face front & big parking space. The décor is very rustic; Big statues in Bhangra poses; charpai (baan ki manji) to provide rest to the tired passengers; welcoming staff and a vast choice of menu and clean toilets. We settled in the varanda and Punjabi music was adding a festive mood to the mouth-watering aroma coming from the kitchen (Garlic-Hing Tadka probably). We ordered a number of dishes as I wanted to get eat as well as get dinner packed for my son at home (of course if I liked it). My son is fond of Paneer and I wanted to make sure that I take home a good dish for him, so I ordered all 3 Paneer dishes, i.e. Kadhai Paneer, Paneer Butter Masala & Shahi Paneer along with their famous (as per owner’s version) Dal Makhni, seasonal special Sarson da saag & makki di roti & just out of curiosity I ordered Mala Kofta too - because many dhabas or restaurants where I have eaten before; use the same gravy for all. We also ordered Lachha Paraha, tandoori roti and Makki di roti to compliment Sarson ka saag. Being a rice lover I ordered some Veg pulao as well along with raita. My thali salivated me completely as chef had garnished each dish in different way and aroma filled our table when food arrived. There were many pleasant surprises like besides normal Hari chutney - I was served a lip-smacking-spice-kick Ginger Garlic chutney too that I have only tasted in Rajasthan so far; another surprise was free chaach that was really refreshing. To my utter satisfaction the gravy of all 3 paneer dishes and Malai Kofta was not only different in taste but texture too. Sarson ka saag was very close to home made - fresh and tasty - I would have liked a little bit of fresh garlic onion tadka on top though to enhance the taste more. Pulao came as a tasty surprise as it was a flavoursome yellow rice pulao with vegetables & paneer and very aromatic with just right amount of spices. The Dal Makhni’s taste totally justified the claims made by the owner and I ended up eating almost half the portion myself (I must mention that I am not a very big fan of Dal Makhni otherwise). Lachha Paratha, Tandoori rotis were crisp, well done in tandoor and yes the WHITE BUTTER that has become the USP of almost all dhabas on GT Road melted to a creamy tasty flavour enhancer on my dal, saag and Tandorri rotis. We finished our meals with their desi ghee jalebis and Kesar waali kheer - both were outstanding and what a way to end the tasty spread. THE BIGGEST SURPRISE CAME TO US WHEN WE WANTED TO COMPLIMENT THE CHEF WHO WAS A CUTE YOUNG SHY 18 YEARS OLD BOY !!!!! It reminded me of the phrase that Big surprises come from Small wonders  I was told that they have a party hall and even good comfy rooms if you want to take a break from journey. Even a wheelchair is also available if required. Snacks are plenty - like Chinese, South Indian, chaat, golgappas etc. I was just curious why they named it “Mitran da dhaba” so I was told that two close friends - one from Punjab & one from Haryana stated this venture - hence the name. On my next journey I would certainly like to try some other dishes. We ended up packing all 3 paneers and Dal Makhni because I could not decide which Paneer I liked the best as all 3 were awesome I must add that my son and his 3 friends really relished the food that I got packed for them.
