I just replaced mine. Same thing, the dealer wanted $1200. I followed this video and replaced the water pump, the water pump pulley, the coolant thermostat, and the coolant for a total of $340.
8 years later, your video still helps. I had water pump done by brake shop franchisee. Just year later it started leaking. They are saying parts covered not labor. And price increase on parts not covered. I got ASIN pump for price less than their price increase. So decided to do it myself. Your video helped me. It’s done in great detail and step by step, easy to follow.
Hello. This is a very helpful video. The moving camera does not help sometimes, make me dizzy. The water pump usually goes bad after 100K miles, by that time I would also change the thermostat, belt and idler pulley, they dont cost much and would make a complete job. for AWD @ remove engine plastic cover around 2:50 this part looks different(at least on my 2007). Just remove the piece that makes sense and not the metal cover nearby with many more than 7 screws. Other than that my AWD appeared identical to this.

Wow, 'they' could have made the pump so much simpler like some other cars where just the small bearing part can be replaced without even removing any hoses. I could change my old Datsun 210 pump in 5 minutes.
You'll notice a lot of dried pink coolant on the front of your engine where the pulleys are. Also your coolant level will be low. Replace the pump as soon as you can as it can fail and cause catastrophic damage.
Can you do a crankshaft sensor replacement? because I know on a few of the gs350 have that issue, that thin fails like crazy, and is scary when that happens, especially when you driving and the car stall out.

By any chance any one knows how the wires connect on camshaft sensor driver side mine are damage and i have no idea if the white one goes in the middle and red on right side

No, I did not. the timing chain is internal and bathed in oil, so I don't think that would be a problem unless you had oil and coolant mixing somehow. The 2gr-fse has very loud injectors/fuel pump.
I'll be taking the time this Sunday to replace it. The video is looking great already, thanks for posting. Is it just the 10mm that needs a deep socket(which I got)? I haven't needed a deep 12 or 14 previously.
You might be right. The larger deep sockets I might have used for the extra length that could be also achieved with extensions. Its been so long ago that I honestly dont remember. Good luck!
Check out the links in the description on the latest price. All it cost was the kit and my time. If you're losing coolant mysteriously and have dried coolant on the front of the engine then it might be time to change the pump.

Only used thread locker on the bolts with colored threads. Didn't use any thread sealer

Usually around what mileage do you change the water hoses?
I would change them as needed. If they are hard and you cant squeeze them, they should be replaced.

I believe the gs300 is DI only like the is250. 2007 GS350 and later years are both port and DI.

Did you use silicone for the water pump gasket ?is it recommended?
No I did not use silicone, I don't think the manual calls for it either. just use the gasket as is

I haven't worked on one but I believe the overall process is the same. The engines are very similar.
