Im beyond confused why President Ron Swanson's White House didnt become a fortress deathtrap for California and Texas alliance's army forces when it is a common knowledge that the US Secret Service is militarily strong as the US National Guard in certain cases. There shouldve been more for the account of the Nuclear Football and Emergency Bunker. Plus the Western Forces, Florida Alliance, and New People's Army facing off FBI, CIA, and NSA wouldve been an epic showdown. Overall it is a thrilling action gunfight eye candy made by British director and producers

I think this film wasn’t about what you guys thought it was. Yes, it was called Civil War but titles are titles. Take Baby Reindeer for example. Don’t expect baby reindeer you will be as dissatisfied as with this. In this film you see or hear of the different groups of people in this war. But not the ones you’re looking at, ie western front, Portland moasists, Florida’s whatsits… the real groups that you’re meant to focus on are the displaced peoples, the dead victims, the parents out in Colorado or Missouri on farms pretending the war isn’t happening, the small town enforcing normalcy with rooftop snipers and ….then there are the armed civilians, soldiers and the protagonist: the photo journalist. All representing possible fates or options for people in how they choose to participate in the war. Some are taking passive stances and others active. The photo journalist and all the journalists are playing active roles however they are completely unarmed. They never fire a shot or try to defend themselves with weapons. This is important, she doesn’t fight in the war she fights the concept of war and violence itself by capturing the horror of it and sending it out to the world hoping that the images dissuade people from war. That’s what she hoped when she was young anyway but now she is disillusioned. Despite that she and her fellow journalists go into the very depths of it. In most action movies the protagonist has a weapon, in this one she has a camera. Maybe that’s what makes the character unrelatable to males expecting an action film about another civil war in America. You wouldn’t go to the frontline unarmed. But they do, it’s showing how you can be brave and a part of history without participating in the violence. They don’t have weapons but they are not p#$$ys. As a female, I could see a character for the women. The movie for me was about their relationship. Dunst is experienced but calloused and disillusioned and she ends up passing the baton to the younger female. When they leave dunsts dead body in the hallway it’s because that is what dunst would expect them/want them to do in that moment of history. Was the girl supposed to stop everything and cry over the woman who was teaching her how to capture history in that historical moment. Or was she supposed to do what dunst would do and get the shot? Her taking the photo of dunst getting shot was the moment when the baton was passed because she was doing what dunst had implied she would do earlier in the film. I don’t know, I have so many other thoughts on it but it’s past my bedtime. I liked watching you guys hash this one out.

Well said, and thank you for taking the time to write this out! I felt a connection to Dunst as the journalist as much as I could, but you're right, as a male there very well could have been entire storylines that I missed, which would imply I am not the target demographic. Whether that is or isn't the case, it was a big reason I felt the way I did overall. It felt like a clickbait cash grab playing on every angle they could have. I understand the baby reindeer reference, however, this movie was about a civil war and they very much marketed it during a time where tensions are high and those two words circulate our media every day. For me personally, if you change the title to better relate to the story or meaning, and less about SEO, and then find a better way to have her die because I will never look past the fact that she ran out, turned and pushed her to the ground, nobody would do that. By doing that she kept Jessie in the line of fire and danger just to give her own life up for a photo because it made sense or looked cool? I don't buy it as a viewer at all. Or the military watching the empty limo for 20 minutes while they have huge gunfire in the white house 100 feet away? This film told a story of realism, which I absolutely LOVED, but they shifted gears at the end. To me it felt like someone else wrote the last 15 pages of the film, and I wish it didn't, because until that ending I was really enjoying the film.
I understand all of your points, and they absolutely make sense, but I thought it was executed poorly and for me (being only one of eight billion people on this planet) i expected better.
I appreciate you taking the time though, hope you stick around, it's good to have insight from others ☺️

You need to watch this film again brother - it’s about getting the picture. The film went over your head

Nah, the film was about marketing toward current world events and falling flat with lazy writing pretending to be something different.

The movie is fantasy, if u see urself in it, maybe take a look n the mirror.

The film was created to demonstrate realism in a time when the world is in edge, it was far from fantasy. You can't be both, and if you try, you get called out.
