      @@Robomo7a you are very welcome. I have a few more from around Devon and Cornwall.
      The sleeper from Penzance to London is great. You get access to the first class lounge at Paddington for some food and a shower in the morning. Great way to end the holiday is you are flying out later from Heathrow!
      Thanks so much for watching 👍

    Thoroughly enjoyed your video, thank you so much - wonderful to see this part of the world again - I was born and raised in Exmouth and in the mid 60’s used to take the train into Exeter Central for work. I’ve lived overseas since 1969 and visit Devon as often as I can but for a few years now. I’ve taken the Exeter to Penzance train, years ago and it’s just so lovely to see beautiful Devon again through your lens. Thanks again and take care. With kind wishes from a Devonian gal in Kansas 🇺🇸🇬🇧

    Lovely journey Johnny, thanks for sharing. GWR isn't well known to me but whenever I've used it, it's been a good product. I really like their livery.

    • @JohnnyHooverTravels
      @JohnnyHooverTravels  Год назад

      Thank you ❤️
      Wrt to livery then it is def about personal taste. But I agree that GWR has said "less is more" and stuck with a plainer green that reflects the history of the old GWR and speaks to the customers about a long heritage.

    Great video, Johnny! How did the 1st class sear compare with the slightly uncomfortable standard class seating?! Price seems reasonable with railcard discount, even if you did have to book well in advance…now I know these ret of how to blag for more freebie snacks!!😊

      1st class seats are the same as on LNER are are certainly acceptable for a first class product without being "knock it out the park stunning".
      And yes, you are welcome to try the "going on a long walk" line for extra snacks. Mind you, as Monday's vid will show, I DID go on a long walk!

    The interior seating seems to be identical layout except the colours from LNER First Class, ironically as I travelled Inverness to Edinburgh and back to Inverness First Class just yesterday! Though LNER catering absolutely superb by comparison to what you got. On the way down I got a hot breakfast along with various snacks all served on real plates with real cutlery, loads of cold drinks as well as teas and coffee served in a real mug. Same in return except it was a superb hot meal and dessert. Superb value and lots of stewards constantly looking after you throughout the journey. Was shocked seeing your cheap looking disposable cup of tea by comparison. The journey you had was fantastic for scenery and again on my bucket list (in fact may happen very soon)

    • @JohnnyHooverTravels
      @JohnnyHooverTravels  Год назад +1

      Yes. It is identical to LNER, except minus the onboard free catering... so it doesn't really feel as nice in GWR.
      Thanks for watching and I hope you get as lovely a day as me for the journey. 👍

    I did a Taunton Truro return today. I agree about the views, and also the engineering of the line. The terrain in Cornwall is not easy and the route into Truro is truly impressive. Sadly GWR was not impressive. No refreshments on the outward leg--except that the TM, after Plymouth, took pity on his two first class customers and produced coffee and biscuits. On the return trip the 9 car train was replaced by a 5 car unit. No reservations and warnings of overcrowding were given us on the platform at Truro. Good views but don't expect much from GWR.

    • @JohnnyHooverTravels
      @JohnnyHooverTravels  Год назад +1

      Yes it is a shame that they offer so little for 1st class, even tho the price difference is the same as with Avanti and LNER where you get loads. Maybe GWR should think about calling it std premier and bringing the prices closer

    GWR should replace their older trains and probably would get new trains such as the Stadler Flirt Diesel Class 2xx or Bi-Mode Class 7xx that would be used in Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, Dorset and West of England. I have been to Cornwall and it is very nice.

      Oh I dunno. People in Penzance that have to travel regularly do get a bit miffed at the slow speeds of the service once it gets into Cornwall.

    Those 800s First Great Western Have Are a Useless Piece of Crap I Think They Should Axe Them Because The Seats Are Awful The Interior Overall Is Worn Out and Dirty These Trains Have Poor Bulid Quality This Train Has Had Engine Failures and Cracks Were Found In The Yaw Damper Areas and The Livery They Use Is Bland and Boring
