Thankyou so much for posting this. Pavlov's Dog and Pampered Menial were so underrated as a group and album. Columbia records didn't even attempt to push them. I found out about PD years ago when they were playing this song in a record store. Records were selling for $7.99 at the time and they were selling Pampered Menial for $3.99 in an effort to sell them. Sad. The lead singer reminds me a bit of the Scorpions.

Tragically I have to agree with you... The distance between the first moment I was riveted upon hearing this for the very first time... I mean life literally just froze... to now I must quit listening to this. I suppose all things must get to a point where they simple must stop... : / Sad.

Got to see them back in the day, when they were really good. David Surkamp was able to easily hit the notes on ALL the songs, including Natchez Trace. And while David may still be able to put a band together to PLAY the music, his voice is completely shot (as you can hear on this performance). I live in St. Louis, David's home-town. A few years ago, I went to Fairmount race track in Illinois, and who did I find playing some little café there? David Surkamp! He was doing acoustic versions of his songs. It was sad to see a guy who could once fill concert halls, reduced to playing in some rinky-dink café. The guy's performances were a mere shadow of his once greatness. He was, however, very accessible, and fun to talk to. Loved reminiscing about concert tours I saw him play on, like Nektar. He apparently really liked Nektar. Saw Pavlov's Dog with Queen as well. Great memories. David is playing in St. Louis in October 2014. He'll be here opening for Dennis DeYoung. The performance here was 5 years ago! If anyone is planning to see David open for Dennis DeYoung, and remembering Pavlov's Dog, they not get what they remember. I love David's music, and enjoy remembering him as he once was. I still have all the Pavlov's Dog CD's, and enjoy them as they were.

The concept of change must be something strange to you. Also the concept of getting old...

You haven't got a clue - seriously. I saw Pavlov's Dog back when the were on top of their game. Honestly, they were amazing. Now, they are not even Pavlov's Dog anymore. They do NOT have all the original members, and David Surkamp's voice is nowhere even close to what it once was. The guy doesn't even attempt the high notes, as I'm confident he couldn't hit them if he wanted too (I requested Natchez Trace, and David wouldn't or couldn't play it). And what is lost on you that David Surkamp was relegated to performing acoustic sets in the cafeteria at Fairmount Race Track? This is sad for a guy whose band used to fill arenas! Honestly, David was lucky if he had 10 people at Fairmount even paying attention to his playing!
I see tons of 'old' groups who still have what it takes to play their music live, and sound good doing it. Pavlov's Dog / David Surkamp is NOT in that category. It has nothing to do with accepting 'change' or getting old. I have both great sight and hearing. I also accept that Pavlov's Dog is not a group I would pay to see perform live any longer. Now, if you wish to accept the mere shadow of a good performance, and say it's OK in the name of 'change', that is up to you. However, I am 100% confident that anyone who KNOWS Pavolv's Dog can admit they are not up to snuff. They used to be amazing. Those were the days! At least their true sound lives on on CD's and vinyl.

Richard G it's your point of view... Lots of great artists go through these up and downs. I was never fortunate enough to see them live, but have been a fan since my teens and watching this still got me goosebumps! I have seen many bands live that are no longer at the top of their game so it's something that doesn't confuses me any more! Not all bands age the same way. Either way, I would still pay to listen to this guy!

Unfortunately this quirky yet amazing voice was the only thing that made this band interesting. Without this we only have cliche melodies with cliche lyrics and occasional proggy elements.
