4:23 "I like bikes to look clean and neat"... rockin' a white stem on a black bike with about 6 inches of steerer sticking out of the top. Sort it out Ollie mate! Thanks for the tips though, enjoyed it. Keep it up :)
Gregg the Square Peg tell me about it 🤦♂️! It’s a test bike from Cervelo, so I’m not going to cut it as I don’t think they would appreciate it! Also, the only 120mm 6deg Stem I had available, was that one! #1stworldproblems 🤦♂️😂
Great stuff Ollie. When I get ill, normally mope about, read crappy novels and binge watch Netflix for a few days when I'm not having to look after everyone else. I then inevitably get back on my bike to commute too quickly and take weeks to get back to full fitness. I never learn.
When I‘m sick, the worst thing is that I‘m not even able to clean my bike which would be the first go to option in any other case when I cannot ride. So for the flue season I always seek for Velodrome related Videos and Races. The reason beeing they are, even though I love velodrome racing, like counting sheep and make you sleep really fast if you are a bit dizzy, with dreams of the races!! Basically a win win situation for getting well sooner and dream about riding in a velodrome. Just Brilliant!!
Fully agree with the price point statement on overshoes. And get some mudguards! They will change your winter ride experience, but I'm sure you already know that. Cheers.
If I get ill and low, I get my back copies of Cycling Weekly out, mainly to reread Dr Hutch. It doesn’t make me feel better but at least I realise I could be in a worse place 🤣
With your moon light there is a little screw you can loosen and adjust so the light can be upright meaning cars at a further distance will see you. Also try and place moon light horizontaly on the seat rails, you will discover that cars notice it more. With the C02 applicator try and protect the side you plug into the tube as at times debry gets in there and when your out and you rely on C02 only you can easily waste 2 CO2 canisters try to work out why the air is not going into the valve properly. Love your videos 😁
just been ill for 14 days, no training. I focus on stretching and some core training, not something to hard on the system, but an area many of us forget. and of course browsing the world wide web for news and tech in the cycling world :)
Thanks. Now I know who to blame for giving me the flu. Usually I go about my usual business, cycling for commuting to work, but skip training. This time, I'm actually sick enough to justify a couple of days in bed. I hate that, and don't know what to do.
I still ride when I'm sick. Just short distances with my HRM on to check that my pulse is low. Feels good to get out and have fresh air. Just don't over do it.
I got the lergy last week. I did not ride from Sunday until to the following Saturday. After a few days off it felt like it was more of a metal effort to get on the bike again rather than stay indoors. That first ride hurt as I found out just how much fitness I have lost. Everything started to ache and even 40km was an effort. Then on Sunday (the following day) I did a 121km group ride and felt fit again. As for what to do while off the bike, Netflix.
I have a nasty cold right now, that is going on it’s fifth day, and I’ve resorted to using my Abbey Tools Bicycle Fit Kit to log and normalize the measurements on all of my bicycles.
This is H1N1 so don't mess around. Chicken soup is the only answer on the nutrition side. Get the best quality bone-in thighs you can get your hands on, boil, remove when cooked, insert celery/garlic/onion/carrot etc. but no starch, simmer a bit while separating the chicken and bones, then throw the whole lot back in for a few minutes and done. Do not switch Strava/power meter on until your second recovery ride back on the bike because the wattage guess/measurement on the first one will depress you.
Get well soon, Ollie, and eat cake and drink tea. And be sure to place some calls and come up with some prizes, maybe two prizes next week to make up for this week. And surely I grin. And I sometimes wear my shoe covers around my apartment like slippers, very comfortable on a frosty night.
I got the flu just before Xmas it put me off the bike for about 3 weeks but luckily I had a copy of “Draft Animals” which took care of a few days then I got just got bored until Monday and Ollie weekly lol
I've got the exact same bike, picked it up last week but I've been too I'll to ride it (heavy cold, phlegm on chest) unfortunately I had to pay for mine but looks great in my living room as a piece of artwork.. I've got the moon nebula rear light and it doesn't fit on the R5's D shaped seat post, how have you managed it? The Nebula mount is designed for a round or narrow 'aero post. Are you using a non standard rubber mount if so what..? Great bike if you can get hold of one but they are like hen's teeth for some reason with Cervelo not supplying any more to UK outlets apparently for at least the rest of the year... is there some licensing/pricing agreement with one of the component suppliers limiting availability of the R5?
Ollie - How is the water resistance level on the Endura Freezing Point? Can they handle some puddles without too much water entry on cold days after the rain stops?
A couple of years ago I caught a defcon 1 near fatal man-flu. I was coughing up pebbles and aching all over. As I live alone and have no common sense gene I decided to go for a short February ride to "sweat out" the satan bug. After an easy spin along the canal I turned off and up a 20% incline. All I remember as I was coming round was some elderly lady fanning me with her newspaper and saying " Do you know anyone that can come and pick you up?" Never again.😎😎
Well i just got the flu thanks to my kids... i try to plan some rides (or maybe search for some strava segments). So that i have something to look forward to and i guess it helps mentally to get fit faster.
Keep off Strava because it just depresses me that I can’t get out and drink four litres of lemsip an hr. good video Oliver get the stem changed and that steerer tube cut. Slam it.
Yes to bottle storage, but just use an old bottle... can't see the point of spending even £7 on something specific. Only difference is the lid doesn't have a nozzle tip.
Ive found that old peanut butter jars (the plastic kind) fit quite snug in a bottle cage. Fits a tube (just one unfortunately), C02 and nozzle, multi tool, spare link, tire lever etc...
Ollie, u should try wintershoes, they are much warmer and stay dry and they don't break so fast! Also I always take a real pump (on the frame), it's better for the enviroment and u can help your mates I also always use an ass-saver!
koen miseur I tried out a few winter shoes and always struggled with comfort and mobility around the ankle joint. I think it’s because I pedal with quite a lot of ankle flexion, but you raise a good point. They may work for some people.
Hi Ollie, can you recommend an upgrade from my standard wheels on my 2016 cube peloton road bike the cheaper the better, i was thinking shimano 6800? Thanks🤓
Are they Vittoria's new Pave's? Why aren't they tubeless and in 30 or 32mm? Can you review dynplugs as I have started running tubeless and am looking them. They seem to be a ball ache to source from America or small outlets.
Thanks very much for showing us where the magic happens as they would say on MTV cribs lol I think you forgot a good quailty toilet rool should be taken with you on every ride! or is that just Tom Dumoulin?
Thanks for all the great info, Ollie! Love the Vlogs but hoping Cycling Weekly could do a series for women riders...Maybe you could pass that on to someone? Thanks, again!
I am not a normal example however I just keep on riding. I find that a little spin tends to help get rid of excess phlegm and other nastiness. Although, I am also a person who has vomited on themself while on a bike...
FYI Re Moon Nebula Tail Light - Features are very good...when it all works. My micro-USB fails to make the connection unless I hold it in forcefully, or lash it together. Bought a spare to no avail - trouble's in the light. There are NO vendors to work thru in the U.S. and it's financially a no-go across the pond to have fixed, even under warranty, so I had to suck it up.
When I can't ride my bike I do one of the following A) watch cycling B) read about cycling C) walk to work. There is no way I'm spending 5.5 miles on a bus that takes an hour when I can walk in 1hr10
Looks like Ebola to me. I recommend self-flagellation of the nether regions every hour, on the hour. I also use a large storage bottle (random Amazon purchase, 5 quid) - it's very good & I can get all the necessary stuff in plus a coconut, a yo-yo and a javelin.
Ollie if the great idea of local club rides ever happens, you need to check my local, Gorilla cycling cafe in Kings Heath, Birmingham and their superb cycling club😊👍🏻
When I'm off sick and can't go out I just curl up in a ball a cry lots!!! I've been off the bike for just over 3 months now as I had a very nasty crash in October. Stationary vans and cyclists at 30mph don't mix well. 15 fractures including a vertebra in my neck is not good. And most annoyingly my bike is virtually unscathed! Going to be a while before I'm back.
If I can't cycle I just do the next best thing which is watch cycling and if I can't do that I do the next best thing which is eat cake and drink coffee, much cake and many coffee!
I would carry 2 CO2 cartridges rather than hope one can inflate two tubes I suggest you also include a quicklink, and have a tool that includes a chain breaker
What I do when Im ill and can't ride my bike? Judging from the last couple of weeks (I broke my left arm in two places and the right thumb on 27th of december) I follow my masochistic side and watch a lot of cycling related content on youtube...🤔😅 Love your Vlogs, keep it up!
Have you ever seen these bottles which are for spares? They fold op n and have all sorts of different slots in them for inner tubes, tyre levers etc. Here’s a sip one from Vittoria www.wiggle.co.uk/vittoria-bottle-cage-tool-bag/
Last year I got a lung infection, right in the middle of race season. I remember even riding my bike for 10 minutes would cause me coughing up R rated things. So I locked my bike up and put away the key until I could at least go out for a cafe spin. During that down time I grunted through a cycle of lifting weights, and laying in bed. It sucked. However the ladies at the beach that year didn't mind, so I at least got something out of it.
Furthermore, can we address the point that you are worried about riding with a saddle bag, but totally f#%k up a premium Cervelo frame with you know what, or do you? Get it together, dude and c'mon man!!

When I am sick, I join all the free months subscriptions I can and binge read and watch!
Can we talk about that white stem though?
12thgear agreed: it's not prity lol
When I‘m sick, the worst thing is that I‘m not even able to clean my bike which would be the first go to option in any other case when I cannot ride.

When I'm sick I just watch cycling related videos such as this 😎
The Whitelee Windfarm cafe just south of Glasgow is a really good one. Nice views, good bike storage, cheap and at the top of a hill!
Ollie weekly is great keep them coming!
Get well soon mate. Cracking vlog once again.
Agree with the Byassi bottle, bit of a tip, put some small piece of bubble wrap in their to stop the rattling.
Very cool move @6:31 Ollie.
Fully agree with the price point statement on overshoes. And get some mudguards! They will change your winter ride experience, but I'm sure you already know that. Cheers.

Have to agree on the Moon lights, I have a Nebula, it's the brightest light of any when you have it on its max setting.
just been ill for 14 days, no training. I focus on stretching and some core training, not something to hard on the system, but an area many of us forget. and of course browsing the world wide web for news and tech in the cycling world :)
Had fullblown aussie flu in bloody bed for three weeks sick as a dog. Good upload..I'm guessing your travels iron cafe stops will be up by Edinburgh
Thanks. Now I know who to blame for giving me the flu.

Awesome tid bits. I like the canister product.
I have those lights and the bottle storage. Great / cheap buys.
Vlogs have been great! Keep it up Ollie!

Great tips and products. Thanks.
When I get sick and can't go out, just clean my bike and do a general tune up!

Holy shizzle you missed out the best one.... the double donut holder you have up front.
Full off the lurgy myself bad luck !! I have the same storage bottle myself and I use old intertube over the multi-tool etc stops all rattles
Ugh I love that R5
I got the flu just before Xmas it put me off the bike for about 3 weeks but luckily I had a copy of “Draft Animals” which took care of a few days then I got just got bored until Monday and Ollie weekly lol

jmsutctfl B'Twin (Decathlon) has a cheaper one if you care for one. For a used bidon you have wait for one to be worn before you use it as a storage.

Great vid mate
Nice list especially the rear light. I carry a pump because you have one or maybe two goes with the carbon dioxide. All the best with the flu.
willbaren i should point out, I still always carry a pump!
Oliver Bridgewood oh good. Thanks for replying :-)
Is the Cervelo a black and neon color or a green color like the Cervelo teams
Hi Ollie, can you recommend an upgrade from my standard wheels on my 2016 cube peloton road bike the cheaper the better, i was thinking shimano 6800? Thanks🤓

Stealth black bike with a white stem. Hmmm.
Hi oli great vid, have you done a review on the rims your running?
1100’s or 1400’s ?
Keep up the good work..
standardlamp 1100 Erc. I will do a review of them. They are 👌👌👌👌
What are your preferred winter gloves? Mine are not hardcore enough but the choice out there is pretty baffling.
tyreshredding personally I use the Endurance FS260 pro great gloves and very warm.
Thanks for all the great info, Ollie! Love the Vlogs but hoping Cycling Weekly could do a series for women riders...Maybe you could pass that on to someone? Thanks, again!

What do you do with your tool bottle when you really need to use two proper water bottles?
Happy days! I won lol
Congratulations! Time to tick off a box on your bucket list.
It was a really good suggestion.
Nice vidéo !!!
Man, what a positive review of Cycling Weekly. Wonder how much they got paid for that...
Cycling daily? More like cycling daily 👍🤙
Just use a normal bottle, you don't need to buy the tool bottle. Then you have an extra bottle for drinks.
I’m from Southern California. What is this winter and wet weather I keep hearing about???
Jk sorry! 😂 #blessed
When I can't ride my bike I do one of the following
A) watch cycling
B) read about cycling
C) walk to work. There is no way I'm spending 5.5 miles on a bus that takes an hour when I can walk in 1hr10
OMG YES! I CAN'T RELATE MORE

Basically just mope about feeling sorry for myself, worrying I’m getting fat and losing fitness. I’m cheerful like that when I’m sick 👍
We stopped at Walkmill cafe on our loop yesterday and told by staff that Cycling Weekly were en route to do a cafe review.... Spooky...
Will that rear light clamp to an aero seatpost?
Ollie if the great idea of local club rides ever happens, you need to check my local, Gorilla cycling cafe in Kings Heath, Birmingham and their superb cycling club😊👍🏻
cayenne pepper solves cold feet. Job done park the bus!
What multitool do you use? Any good?

Why CO2 and not N2? Would be great to be able to refill and re-use right from my LBS.
you could use Nitrogen if you want. I'd just avoid compressed Hydrogen, Oxygen and Sarin.
Oliver... having trouble finding nthe topeak air booster. Any suggestions?
Evans Cycles have some in clearance.
I would carry 2 CO2 cartridges rather than hope one can inflate two tubes
I suggest you also include a quicklink, and have a tool that includes a chain breaker
i normally do always carry a tool with a chain braker and also a mini pump
Snap with the bottle and the flu think that's where are similarities end 👍
Face it Ollie, the tissue is for an unexepected Tom Dumoulin stop :-)
No buff??
Never leave the home without a rear mudguard, at this time of year Ollie 🙄
Ollie! that white stem is a sore in the eye mate! velominati Rule #8
What I do when Im ill and can't ride my bike?
Judging from the last couple of weeks (I broke my left arm in two places and the right thumb on 27th of december) I follow my masochistic side and watch a lot of cycling related content on youtube...🤔😅

watch cycling weekly

2 tubes, 1 canister
S size fits me
I just binge watch tv and eat chocolate
I don't get ill
5 weeks of flu here. AAAARGH
maybe riding and promoting good British sportives and roads like Fred Whitton??
Giveaway the R5 in the next giveaway pls I could use that as my racing bike let alone a winter bike!
Furthermore, can we address the point that you are worried about riding with a saddle bag, but totally f#%k up a premium Cervelo frame with you know what, or do you? Get it together, dude and c'mon man!!
The winner of this week's caption will get.... The flu
Good vid, who tf uses a white stem
I like my bike to look clean:
rides with an uncut steertube and an ugly white stem
Loved the practical demonstration of how a water bottle is WATERPROOF! *facepalm*
