It is a sequel to the game Smuggler's Run. Like the first game the player is a smuggler trying to deliver illegal cargo to destinations within 3 large maps in the game using several different types of vehicles to make deliveries in a given amount of time.
The game was originally supposed to take place in Afghanistan but following the attacks on the World Trade Center and the subsequent invasion of Afghanistan, the developers changed the Afghanistan levels to the deserts of Georgia, Soviet/Russia instead.
Similar to the original game, the overall objective in most missions is to deliver illegal contraband from a pick-up to a drop-off spot in a given amount of time. The player would also have to avoid local army and border patrol during these missions. Now, players will also have to follow vehicles without being seen, destroying enemy vehicles, and evading police after all other objectives are finished. The player will be given a number of vehicles to choose from.

Rockstar needs to develop Smuggler's Run 3! I don't understand why they just abandoned it... Such an amazing, fun game. For a game made in 2001, this is quality!!

myname they abandoned it for bigger projects. It's fun for a minute, but this game gets boring after a hour. No real replay value.
maybe if they ever think of releasing mobile games this should come up to mind 🤷♂️
@@AugustDreamScape the splitscreen multiplayer alone is already worth many many hours. This game is fun and underrated. These so called bigger projects are starting to become tedious and uninspiring. This game was fresh and original. Its a shame they dropped it.

I used to love this game! ive been trying to find what it was called for ages, and ive finally found it haha. memories of spending all christmas day playin this on a brand new ps2:D
I remember when I was a little kid (in kindergarten), I really wanted to unlock the military truck. I was in love with it, but never thought I would be able to get it. I would do the joy ride mode and find the police military trucks just so thy I could see what they look like. One day I happened to pause the game with the truck in perfect view and I was very pleased. I ended up actually unlocking the truck that day anyways.I really hope a sequel gets released...

I know the original comment is from 6 years ago, but if you're interested, i managed to get my hands on the soundtrack with the correct titles for the songs aswell, it sadly doesn't include the menu theme :( but all the songs you hear during the missions are there, the files are in .mp3 so i could probably upload it for dropbox, if anyone is interested?

MartinouStyler its a series of smuggling missions that unlocks when you buy the the hangar in grape seed I think
I'm actually gonna buy a PS2 just to play these old fun games I used to play.
It is amazing how much the game changed from the 1st one. This one looks and feels so much better then the 1st.
I want this game back 😭 it’s pure nostalgia and I remember it was so fun, if they remake it that would be great news, there’s so many game modes they can make, even sell car skins if they want to make a profit out of it.

You can see all the old epic Rockstar games have served as influence to come together and make GTA... It's just a shame they don't make them anymore... Bully, Max Payne and Midnight Club are all so awesome!
I hate how game series like Smuggler's Run and The Legendary Starfy get abandoned despite being successful. Smuggler's Run, though inferior to Grand Theft Auto, was well liked among the Rockstar community. The same goes for The Legendary Starfy series.

double-tapping the accel and holding it to boost up the car. But pressing front with analog to make more use of boost instead of just popping wheelies. To keep vehicle grounded.

some old titles did and still kick ass i loved smugglers run, i was only 8 then this came out, im 20 and looking to get my hands back on these games. back when ps2 came out this was soo much fun graphics looked great! now look at video games and look back and wow did they suck! but still great games!
I still have my ps2 and still play all the time this game kicks ass lol my lil bro took over my copy of the game and plays it 24/7
I would LOVE to see a new Smugglers Run game, with the new consoles I think they could create something truly amazing. There are literally NO off-road games on the market and It would be a fresh new type of game to play. Make it face paced like the old ones, but also put parts where you're really off-roading, for example moving slowly trying to power through a thick jungle in your smuggling vehicle, getting stuck in mud, trying to find routes through thick trees, all while trying to deliver what you're smuggling and avoiding the authorities. Add in a TON of different vehicles ranging from Dune runner buggies, All wheel drive cars, maybe some cool old muscle cars, some truck like Ford Bronco's, Jeeps, Blazers, Etc... all while allowing customization such as different tires, better suspension systems, engine upgrades, wenches, snorkels, light systems, roll cages, armor etc... If Rock Star did this, I truly believe it would be a hit game.

this definitely reminds of the Jak 3 side quests in the dessert, even the cars bumping/crashing into you.
I swear the song "shockwave" on soulwax fm on gtav is on smuggler's run as well when I first heard it on gta I instantly thought of smuggler's

I was never able to find this or its predecessor anywhere back when it was first released looked pretty cool from what I can see though :D
The arms trafficking ground missions that Trevor can do in GTA V gave me serious Smuggler's Run vibes. I kinda' wish they would've expanded on it a bit more or found some way to make the air missions more challenging but they are infinite (to my knowledge) and I don't think I've replayed the same mission yet so it's something.

Does anyone know what the timer on the main menu thing is? I’d assume that it’s the amount of hours you’ve played the game but mine is at 10 and it’s my first time playing... also when I take out the memory card and restart the game the timer continues from the same exact time it left off. Someone please respond I’m very curious about this
It's supposed to show the current time of day which will usually be taken from your console's settings.

wish my ps2 still worked, i had a ps2 fat SCPH-30001 and a ps2 slim SCPH-70012, both had the similar problem, stopped reading discs after a while.

I WAS going to buy the game in a pawn shop, but the people working there didn't bother to check if the discs were inside. Apparently, there were several games without the disc in their cases, and SR2 was one of them. :(
The Midnight Club team made this. I believe they ceased existing under Rockstar and are now the team that's doing Red Dead.
Personally I'd rather replay these games or have Smuggler's Run 3 over GTA6/RDR.
Back when their games used to be fun , feel fresh , unpredictable , and experimental not some repetitive milked to death safe formula repeated over and over again.

I think GTA5 swallowed up this franchise.
This game is cheap! Somehow the enemy cars always know where you are going to be. You can be going 100 mph and fly over a blind jump and the enemy will be able to hit you while you are flying through the air in a head on collision. Plus, it sucks that 20 enemies can keep up with you while you are going 120 mph with no problem.
