Great video, I bought pvm version of this for 30 dollars at a recycling place and have just finished turning it into n6u with rgb. Ordered some cables and can't wait to see how it looks.
Well done sir! I had a 14n6u and got rid of it. Shouldn't have...I was chasing the 600 and 800 line dream. I have found that it doesn't make gaming any better! Hope you enjoy yours!
@@PotatoFi Yes it does. I can notice quite a difference between my 1353md, 600lines, and the 14n5u, 500 lines. 800 lines, like the m4u, almost looks like an emulator to me....its kind of unreal in person.
I'm living in Russia, and a fev days ago i found on a Avito (local Craigslist) a European modification of this monitor, SSM-14N5E, in good condition, only for about 16 dollars (about 20 with delivery to my town), and i just couldn't resist and ordered. Waiting for delivery :)
i'm really surprised how little-known (unknown?) these monitors are (i mean, SSM modification of PVM-14N5x), i saw many of pvm lots, and PVM-14N5E are really often met, but no one SSM-14N5 (I took the only one)
I just bought a 14n5u on ebay for $250 shipped; hopefully it shows up in perfect condition. It can apparently be rgb modded, so im gonna attempt it. I also have a Toshiba/Orion 14AF44 which i cant wait to compare with the pvm
I have a radioshack powered switch that converts composite to S-video (I assume it doubles the signal over chroma and luma), and I also notice a slight difference in quality with my Sega Genesis paired with a Retrotink 5x. Haven't tried it with my NES (since It's been RGB modded for ybpbr anyway), but I may pick up another just to kicks to test this out!
The monitor does mono audio in. I'm using a switcher though. S-video to the monitor, and stereo out to that little Rockville speaker. It is doing all audio for the systems.
If its brand new 300 is good! If not 150 is about as high as a really good condition one should go. Just my opinion, but they seem to be going up and up.
@@aceMcbassy I just picked up one for $120. It was in a tiny community, 2 hours from any major cities, so it say on Facebook marketplace for a couple of weeks before I found it.
@@aceMcbassy Yes, I am very happy with it! The geometry isn't perfect, but I think I can fix that. I have also noticed an issue where sprites cast a shadow to the right, and another shadow down. It's only noticeable on screens with a lot of contrast. Not sure if it's the display, or if that's my S-Video display chain... it's not visible on my RetroTINK 2X Classic, which terminates the chain of S-Video devices.
tengo el mismo con la modificacion rgb y la verdad es que se ve increible , por video compuesto se ve espantoso pero por rgb es una verdadera maravilla

@@aceMcbassy The 14N5U is literally the only PVM I've ever seen in person. Does 600 or 800 lines make any perceivable difference?

@@aceMcbassy Dang. Okay, I think I'll keep searching for another PVM - but in the meantime, I will continue to enjoy this one a bunch!

although just two days before ordering this SSM i ordered PVM-14L2 in good condition for about 150 dollars :D

I just picked up a ssm-20n5u. I’m excited to get it going with some older consoles.
Hope it looks great! Some of the sharpness is lost though, in the jump to 20". Should still look great though! You should do a video on it.

Can this be used with 220v voltage?
is this video quality pvm the same thing as pvm-14L1 ?
The output RGB is the better for that Monitor.
Thank you
its funny how prices keep going up. i just got my s-video cable for $40 on ebay
and these pvm's aren't cheap either haha
How do you get audio on this. It looks like an aux input in the back but all my aux cables do not work

Nice pvm, there's one local to me for $300 obo. I wonder what would be a fair price for one.

@@PotatoFi , so is it as good as you hoped? I love mine...it's my main monitor for playing.
@@aceMcbassy Totally great. I’m really happy with it, although it’s the only PVM I’ve seen in person so it’s hard to be sure.

Hey whats your speaker setup?
Everything is going into that little Rockville speaker. It sounds decent!
zelda game name please ?
It's the GameCube game: The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (though they released an HD remake of it for the Wii U as well)

I have this same monitor, how did you rgb mod it?
