As an American, I'm embarrassed by Donald Trump. As a conservative, I'm embarrassed by voters who nominated him. As a Christian, I'm embarrassed (and profoundly disappointed) by the number of Christians (especially "leaders") who support him. How I wish I could wake up from this horrible, awful dream.
Dream? A dream would be of him going away, one way or the other. This is a never ending nightmare, to which there seems to be no escape!!!

For the record Proverbs 23:17 says"Do not let your heart envy sinners, but always be zealous for the fear of the LORD." There are quite a few different translations of the Bible

There are actually many Proverbs that warn of being envious. One is 23:17 "Never let yourself envy sinners; instead, remain in fear of the LORD every day". You don't need CNN to check weather a similar proverb exist, just use google search.

Purist Historian - Yes, it’s easy to find verse ABOUT envy in Proverbs. But there is no verse talking about “... BENDing YOUR HEART TOWARDS ENVY.”

Just to clarify, the word envy is used 32 times in the Bible, N.T. and O.T., and advising people to not do it. It is described as 'jealousy' mainly and in IPeter 2:1 the Apostle advises Christians to ' put away' envy. It seems Mr. Trump was describing a subject in the Bible, not quoting a certain verse. He could have been clearer.
He didn't quote it word for word, but the concept of envy is talked about a lot in Proverbs.
The quote seems to be closest to Dante's Divine Comedy, not the Bible.

The definition to what Donald Trump said is according to the Longmans English dictionary: "Don’t give in to the temptation". We pray daily: "- and don't lead us into temptation.". Donald Trump being a Reformed Christian would pray this preayer in Church every time he goes to curch and "Don’t give in to the temptation" means excaclt what the Lord's prayer formulalates. I Will use the living Bible to give you and example of bothe, the Lord's Preayer, Proverbs and the ten commandements!
1. "Don’t bring us into temptation"
2. "Don’t envy godless men; don’t even enjoy their company. For they spend their days plotting violence and cheating."
3. “You must not be envious of your neighbor’s house, or want to sleep with his wife, or want to own his slaves, oxen, donkeys, or anything else he has.”
So, because Donald Trump said: "never bend to envie" is a paraphrase of " "Don’t give in to the temptation"" or "lead us not into temptation" or " thou shalt not covet". If we give in to those things, we are led by the evil "evil one", which is the phrase which follows in the Lord's prayer! Now I have not come up with commentaries, but i will, because, the reporter in this video is utterly unfair. Donald Trump is saying somehting, that people may understand what is written in the Bible. He uses everyday language. And the reporter in this just "picky" and wants to destroy Donald Trump with the cited Bible verse. Did you know, that Jesus and the discipled did not have a Bible and not even have heard of Bible verses! So, it is really not respectfull of a RUclips video commentator to critizise the presuident candidate when he paraphrase the meaning of the ten commandements, the Lord's Prayer and Proverbs, which really are the wisdom of a might king Solomon. The Bible itself is not picky in words, for once Jesus talks about the kindom of heaven then again in an other gospel he talks about the kingdom of God! So, Jesus is reported in two different stylies. This is not Jesus fault, since he meant what he said, but when it comes to the listener, one remember one thing and an other an other thing and at the end we get a fuller picture of what was meant by the prase: Kindom of Heaven/God! The fuller picture is that the Kindom of God is the kindom of heaven. In other places we learn, that Gods kindom is in heaven and on earth (Lord's praver, Daniel ch. 7 etc. Hebr. 1.8-9).
The Pulpit Commentary on Proverbs 24,1 has: "Be not thou envious against evil men (see on Proverbs 23:17, where a similar warning is given, and comp. Ver. 19 below). "Men of wickedness," wholly given over to evil. Neither desire to be with them. Their company is pollution, and association with them makes you a partner in their sinful doings."
Now the commentary says, we should look up Proverbs 23:17, to which this verse is also alluding to: "For a whore is a deep ditch and an estranged woman is a disturbed well."(Aramaic Bible in Plain English)
So, if we are in a situation, where we find ourselves alone and see someone having a beautiful wife, don't desire her! If you see a farmer with beautifull cattle, don't envie him, if you see someone with a Rolce Royce, don't feel envie, for what is a Rolce Royce, if the owner is not happy and in peace with God! This is what Donald Trump said, but Jesus says: People are "hard of listening"! Now, give me a exposition of of this verse! Hebrews 5:11: " but it is hard to explain, because you are dull of hearing." - Matt. 13:15 "For this people’s heart has grown callous; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes." - Isajah 59:1 "But your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, And your sins have hidden His face from you so that He does not hear." - Matt. 13:13 "This is why I speak to them in parables: ‘Though seeing, they do not see; though hearing, they do not hear or understand.’" - Ezechiel 3:5 "For you are not being sent to a people of unintelligible speech or difficult language, but to the house of Israel"6nor to many peoples of unintelligible speech or difficult language, whose words you cannot understand. But I have sent you to them who should listen to you; 7 yet the house of Israel will not be willing to listen to you, since they are not willing to listen to Me. Surely the whole house of Israel is stubborn and obstinate. 8 "Behold, I have made your face as hard as their faces and your forehead as hard as their foreheads."" - Proverbs 29:1 "A man who hardens his neck after much reproof Will suddenly be broken beyond remedy. 2 When the righteous increase, the people rejoice, But when a wicked man rules, people groan." - Deuteronomy 1:7 "You shall not show partiality in judgment; you shall hear the small and the great alike. I would say to avoid the bullseye the press would put on him had he cited the full verse, he made it something that would not be so indicting of unbelievers. Like those in the press waiting for an opportunity to pounce on his faith.

"never bend to envy" is more of a summery of Proverbs, To be wise and live in that wisdom, Not so much a specific verse. So in a sense he got it right. He did not give any specific verse number.
i think hes talking about how a passage from that part of the bible spoke to him. To me personally it doesnt sound like hes citing any verses as such. or he could have got it mixed up with another part of the bible. who knows.

Get a life and read the Bible to learn something instead of mouthing off ignorance. One neat thing about the Bible is one can follow it's precepts without remembering verses. There is one really neat verse that tells us we can do something that cannot do, and it is true. Read it for yourself and shut up or go back to Hustler magazine for your insights on life. UFB!

Bend to envy... succumb etc. I am an avid reader of the Bible and I have almost no scripture memorized exactly, but I definitely remember topics....ideas etc. So.... this really means nothing.
It's probably in there if you interpret the metaphors "correctly".

You can't speak for Trump. If he knew a verse, he would know the book and the number.
How about this for a bible verse for Trump: Acts 4:32 - "And the congregation of those who believed were of one heart and soul; and not one of them claimed that anything belonging to him was his own, but all things were common property to them."
Or Acts 4:34/35 - "For there was not a needy person among them, for all who were owners of land or houses would sell them and bring the proceeds of the sales and lay them at the apostles' feet, and they would be distributed to each as any had need."
What about Trumps claims about unclean and unholy foreigners coming across the US/Mexico border:

I haven't even got to the Gospels, the most important books of the Christian bible, the words of Jesus. There are pages of warning against people who are JUST like the Conservatives in the US:
