Great advice Tyler. Everyone has a vision on how they will use their R50. My wife and I are in our late 50's and we only use our R50 for camping, fishing and some off road (logging roads). All we have done was add a decent set of AT tires, a D ring on the hitch. We also included as basic first aid kit, tool kit and basic recovery equipment (strap and shovel). The most important upgrades for us is to make sure our vehicle is well maintained and serviced as it should be. Please note* Make absolutely sure that the crank and release mechanism for the spare tire work properly and that the wheel and tire are in good working order. We are ready for this springs adventures on Vancouver Island. Thank you Tyler for all your videos and information regarding the R50. We love ours. :)
Absolutely! The best measure of a build is how well it accomplishes what the owner uses it for! These are great little rigs for getting outside and doing more of what you enjoy!
you probably dont give a shit but if you are bored like me during the covid times you can watch all of the new series on instaflixxer. I've been watching with my gf for the last few weeks :)
I have found myself building out towards more of a camping setup. Although sometimes I do take it off road, (British Columbia forest roads) I more or less want to be able to just pack a few things and be able to go camping anywhere I want in the bush. And living in the mountains full of forests and tight twisty roads, for me lighting was up there since I already had some decent rubber (BFG KO). I have a 25in light bar on my front bush bumper with 2 pods lower down in front of the rad and then swapped in some LED head lights. Since my pathy is a hand-me-down, my dad at some point did build the front bumper, but I hate the style of the rear oem bumper, so I made my own. It's a tube style high clearance that also functions as a trailer hitch for my Teardrop. It has also come in handy a few times for pulling people our and also the 1 time I got stuck in super super deep snow on accident. whoops. Although I want to be able to hit some gnarly trails in my pathy, the lift and lockers are a bit out of my budget for now and its the small things I need to work on first. Such as fixing the things that have gone bad over the years of it sitting untouched in my garage since we moved. I love watching your videos. it helps me get more of an idea on what can be done to the R50. It really helps me put together a list of stuff I want to work towards, such as bigger tires when I burn through these, a lift, maybe a front lokka after I found it what it was from you, and a few other things here and there.
Awesome dude! These are great weekender vehicles, I love packing up and knowing that my R50 will get me there reliably. And, if things turn gnarly I know it'll be able to handle it. Good stuff!

I drive a 2002 Pathfinder in Australia, mostly using it for camping and have not had much trouble getting out and about in the bush and desert where i live. Ive found the Pathfinder a good option for the basic stuff i do with just Tyres, i want to do a few other things to it but nothing too crazy. I think if you want to go full on rock crawler there are probably better vehicles to start with, that said the Pathfinder is a brilliant option to just get out in the bush with and i have absolutely climbed up stuff that i don't think a heavier vehicle with longer wheel base would get up without a decent lift on it.
I love watching your videos you are very informative and always willing to to answer questions we may have. I just got my r50 this year at Christmas and so far I love it and ready to start making it my own style. I plan on getting some toyo at 3's springs and shocks them adding some lights for now.
I bought an R50 stock and it is sick man! Your videos helped me. Def looking Into the bilsteins and the land rover springs. Thing goes everywhere in BC!
The gearing will not be perfect. It might be tolerable, but it’s undeniably a worse driving experience. Especially for long trips at higher and more varied elevations, I’ve found that heavy tires really change how a vehicle performs. Not saying it can’t be done, but it will obviously change things like shift points, RPM’s, and MPG
@@208Tyler I mean it was 96 pathfinder didn’t do to bad on a 1000 mile road trip undeniably sucked at turning but I didn’t have a lift and the wheels and tires were only 400 dollars everyone got different in driving experience but I ain’t gonna lie it did great in mud and went thru places I never thought it could I got a 98 now and doing thing the correct way lol
All coils are cross compatible Probably. For stock shocks, I would just go to Rockauto and sort by your model year.... For aftermarket/lifted applications, you need to discern which shock mounts you have and make a decision based on that. Here’s a video that explains shock math and dilemmas for R50’s: ruclips.net/video/HrAp3dmjL74/видео.html
It's cheaper to piece together your own suspension, and it allows you to fine-tune your needs. I wouldn't get it. Instead, I'd use my videos and the collective wisdom of places like NPORA to decide on your own front and rear coil springs, as well as shocks and struts. I have videos that explain all these components in my lift kit playlist if you need a place to start.
Question for you Tyler. I put on the Landover springs on my 96 pathfinder, but now I keep blowing up the front shocks. I think they are overtraveling and smashing the insides apart. On my 2nd set and they are blown agian. Is there set of shocks that have more travel that fit, or do I just cut some coil off?
Well, land rover springs won't affect your front shocks. Without knowing more about your front struts or potential front lift coils, It's hard to say what the issue is. I never had an issue with my AC coils and KYB struts, they lasted fine for about 2 years while I had them, and those are the stiffest coils you can put on a pathfinder front end. You could try some KYB or Rancho Struts if you're just using cheap ones right now, otherwise OME struts are the only real "aftermarket" struts. Explained here: ruclips.net/video/bp3WFEjZC6M/видео.html
Ya, I went with HD 2inch lift Landover springs from that company in Britain. I did get my shocks from orilleys, and it was the import direct brand so who knows. Maybe I should get some nissan oem ones, as those ones took a beating. It just seems like the HD coils have so much preload before they collapse that when I go over a hole they shoot the shock all the way open with some serious force.
Putting Land Rover springs on the REAR of the vehicle will not affect the FRONT shocks on your pathfinder like you stated in the first comment. If you’re talking about blowing out the REAR shocks, then yes there’s definitely high quality options that are longer travel, as explained here: ruclips.net/video/HrAp3dmjL74/видео.html
Yes, sorry I got it all backwards. I have Landover coils on the back and ome on the front. The ome ones are the HD. They leveled it out like I wanted, but the struts on the front keep exploding. Anyway all I was wondering was of you knew of any front shocks that would allow for the extra lift as they are topping out, and destroying the seals inside. Seems like the best bet would be to cut some coils out on the front two and hope that would allow for the shock to not top out so hard.
