Hi there, thanks for your great reaction , my Scottish great grandad (royal field artillery)was on the western front when this happened and wrote to my great granny and told her how surreal it was. There were small pockets of xmas truces in the following years but not on the same scale as in 1914. Some soldiers even exchanged addresses and wrote to each other or their families after the war. Sadly my great grandad was killed in April 1918 in Ypres, Belgium. ( where this cross memorial was placed in 1999) My Irish great grandad (royal inniskilling fusiliers ) was killed in the trenches 3 months after this xmas truce 😥 There are no winners in war except death 😥😥

Yeah. The longer this war lasted the more faceless the enemy became and attrocities on both sides were accepted as necessary. Over hundreds of years wars after wars in Europe ended in the dead of 70 to 80 million people, but at least we have now the longest time of peace we have ever had. I hope it stands this way! Let's hope fighting parties all over the world get to hear this and take the message to heart and celebrate life instead of fighting other peoples battles.
The reason why this was a really good song was not just the piano, nor how they made this video. It's the story. Nothing in modern history has had a moment like this. 2 army's that stopped to just have what could of been there last christmas.
Yeah, I hope the song contain the Floor Jansen part. It is beautiful. Btw, this happened in the beginning of the Great War. There were no steel helmets then. The germans came up with their Stahlhelmet in february 1916, and the british Brodie helmet was patented in 1915.

The music at the end of the ‘Good the bad and the ugly’ is called ‘The Ecstasy of Gold’ by Ernio Morricone. Fun fact-Metallica use the same music at the beginning of all their shows.
I'm glad that you got the Spaghetti Western vibe from the end too. It adds a serious finality to what is already an event of historical significance. Speaking of which, you guys should react to Ecstasy of Gold if you don't know it (not the Metallica one!) It truly is epic.
This song basically reminded me of Savatage\Trans Siberian Orchestra song.. TSO\Savatage uses a lot of piano and orchestral eo classical elements and thus they have 3 holiday rock opera albums.
The outro definitely had Morricone vibes. If someone had shown me only that part before I knew the video and told me it's an epic metal cover of an old Italo western soundtrack I wouldn't have doubted them. If just for the fun if for nothing else - Morricone, "The Wild Horde", to the part where the choir starts around 1min06. That passage and this outro played at the same time is an experience (especially if you play around with the playback speed of the Horde). I'm btw not saying there's some copying going on, not at all. If anything, I'm impressed how they caught the atmosphere of those old scores so well and managed to merge it with the overall style of the actual song to create one flawless experience.
