Hi, I'm a former Paratrooper with the 82d Airborn Div. I would love to see you build a C-130 Hurcules , then make it deploy 80 Paratroopers out both side doors. Do it for all the Special Ops Soldiers out there!
Crazy ideas? How about this: Way back when, the air force had the idea to make an air-launched Minuteman ICBM. It'd be kicked out the back of a C130, would stabilize under a parachute, and then launch through the chute. That, but Flite Test style. And with less mushroom clouds.
I would love to see you guys try a scale version of “skyhook” with this, using an action man (12 inch GI joe). Skyhook is the aerial retrieval of a pilot using a cable capture system.
The nose of the real aircraft was reenforced to handle the force and friction of the cable, so the same would need to be done to the model, also there would be no way to recover the figure into the aircraft, the person was pulled in by the flight crew.
@@thomasohanlon1060 The structure of the mechanism itself would be all the reinforcement needed. As far as getting the payload inside the fuselage, I have a couple of ideas right off the bat. It is very do-able.

lol just watched and posted pretty much the same comment. 5" would be tricky to get back in there with out tearing it up, but I bet a fleet of 3" with something like the caddx turtle v2 would be able to redock and get some good footage.
Well, there still are foam-candy, like marshmellows, which are basically Nerf-bombs. And kids take that directly in their heads, like, every day of play. Btw, noone said they're not allowed to use parachutes for each one, like a troop dropout.
I've been experimenting with various kinds of joinery, especially in relation to Readi-board, and I've come up with a joint system that works across the board (no pun intended) for anything from single sheet-to-sheet joints, to something with multiple layers like the plane here, and it's by using this fiberglass strand reinforced packaging paper/or/plastic tape like what is sent from companies like Amazon when they ship something to you. It works way better than the clear stuff, is way stickier. The foam would break apart before this tape would. I also figured out a great way to join multi layer foam together and it's called a "half lap" in wood joinery. Basically, the joint from one piece overlaps on the outside and the joint from the other piece overlaps from the inside with this super thin double sided tape in between, and then clear or paper tape inside and out. It's honestly the strongest permanent joint you can get. The next thing I'm working on is shrink wrapping my Readi-board, and embedding/gluing magnets and/or magnetic strips into the foam under the shrink wrap. You have to use magnets strong enough to hold the plane together in the air, so the wrap makes the foam durable enough that it can handle the magnets. I've used this method to hold wings on, and fuselages together without any issues. I would imagine that you could achieve a similar result simply by using tape, but the thin shrink wrap creates an almost hardened plastic shell around the foam. Which leads me to something else I'm experimenting on, and it's using the really thick shrink wrap material around the foam, and then dissolving the foam with chemicals like acetone, leaving just a clear, hard plastic shell behind that can then be cut along the edges into two pieces, reinforced from the inside with superglue and plastic framing and made into a super lightweight wing or fuselage ready for prep and paint. I know people have used these methods before, but it's something I like to experiment with myself.
When I was a C-141 Starlifter navigator we dropped pretty much everything, but the most impressive by far was a road grader. The challenges included not only size and weight, but how the aircraft's center of gravity changed as the load exited.
