I am 8 days post op. I had no anxiety going in for PRK. I had some pain on day of surgery but very tolerable. I didn't use any pain killers or numbing drops. After the first day, there was no pain at all, just slight discomfort. My vision is pretty much like your's right now. I see more clearly than I did with my contacts even after updating my prescription every 2 years. I have strange eyes: my left eye is permanently dilated while my prescription between the two eyes are vastly different (-1.75 and -3.00). I also have slight astigmatism just in one eye. Also, growing up I had 20/15 vision until I was 18 so I clearly could recall the level of clarity I used to be able to see at. This really bothered me since wearing contacts gave me at best 20/25 vision. I just got assessed 1 week post op and my vision is at 20/30 in left eye and 20/25 in right eye. I believe I'm well on my way to getting at least 20/20 vision.
Forgot to state, although I recommend everyone else to follow instructions from their ophthalmologist, I did not wear the eye shield when I slept because I felt confident I wouldn't accidentally touch my eyes. I also showered same day of operation and kept my eyes closed. On second day I did get a bit of water in my eyes during shower but I just put some drops after. Again, I'm not recommending that you do what I did.

I wanted to leave a comment. I’m sure just like others who are planning on having the surgery or had the surgery wonder how long it take for full recovery. I was very nervous bc even at my 3 week check up my eyes were still very blurry. I may would get some what good vision for about an hour or 2 through out the day. I had very bad vision. My contact prescription was -6.50 for both eyes. I was getting a lot of headaches which I’m sure was from straining to see. The dr did give me 2 weeks of daily contacts to wear as needed. He said my eyes where still swollen and some haze on the right eye. He promised it would get better. I did another week of steroids drops 1 time a day. Finally now on my 4th week my vision is so much better. Very clear and I’m amaze. Still some dryness/itchness and what fills like pressure behind the eyes which may be from the dryness. Hopefully that will go away soon also. I hope this helps anyone who is wondering. I know I was googling/YouTubing everything

I had Lasik 9 years ago but needed glasses again for driving and watching tv a year ago. Had PRK as an enhancement 5 days ago. First two days was painful and miserable, I couldn’t sleep either afterward. I kept those goggles on for 3 days with blinds drawn. My vision is kinda blurry and I have to read a computer screen all day for work so had to call out today, and the clinic told me to use rewetting drops every 10-15 mins to help with focusing on small letters for now!

@@marcusvonmaximus8071 supposedly there’s less long-term risk with PRK than LASIK, because LASIK can reduce the tensile strength of the eye, but I think that’s largely mitigated by the newer lasers they use to make the initial flap incision. It probably also depends on how deep they cut. LASIK also presents more risk for long-term dry eye because the cutting (again, deeper than the surface ablation of PRK) severs nerves. They regrow well in most people but for some they don’t, and the eyes get bad at producing tears.

I had PRK laser eye surgery almost one year ago. It will be one year this August 17th. I'm feeling pretty good about it now, but the first 4 months my eyes went in and out of focusing due to that healing process you were talking about from the inside out. Vision would be good for two weeks, bad for one, and off and on like this for the first 4 months. Things were better at 4 months but gotten even better and more stabilized at 6 months. I had a very high prescription -7.50 in the left eye and -5.50 in the right eye so that had a lot to do with my healing time I'm sure. I hope your eyes stabilize sooner. After my research, it really takes a year to fully stabilize as my left eye has changed by .25 increments on the eye chart for the last 6 months for the better. My eyes are now +1.25 in the left and +1.00 in the right. Not perfect, but still great compared to where I was and I really only need glasses for reading, since I am 50 years old. The part I hated the most was all the eye drops forever and dry eyes, but that stabilized as well and now I only put drops in the morning and evening before bed. I wish you well on your healing journey and 20/20 or better eyesight!

    • @talesofahoneybee
      @talesofahoneybee 2 года назад

@@shadiapatino1581 You will see even more healing. It has been 5 years now for me and it still seemed to heal even more in the first two years. I am thankful that I had the surgery now. I was so scared after I got it, wondering if my eyes would ever stabalize. My eyes never corrected to a complete 0, but are a +.5 in each eye, but that is barley anything! I need glasses for reading anyway, so I have progressives with a +.5 on the top for distance and +2.5 on the bottom for up. close reading. I take my glasses off when I drive and don't need them for watching tv or seeing people anymore. It is wonderful to just basically see most everything clearly, except for the reading and when I'm eating or cooking, but that doesn't bother me anymore. May the Lord bring complete vision and full healing to your eyes very soon.

Enough to text but it’s uncomfortable to do my mundane things on laptop and even my smartphone.
I know I may be too early to ask but I’m trying to make sure about if I still won’t have my eyes fully clear as if I never had glasses before.

Funny how we all have different experiences. I got mine done on the 12th. On the day of the surgery I had some pain which is expected. I slept for a few hours and woke up with no pain. I only wish the next two days were just as smooth...but nope! I had a lot of pain in both eyes on Friday and Saturday and if it wasn't for the numbing drops idk what I would do. I woke up and Sunday absolutely pain-free and have had 0 pain ever since. Post up is on the 18th to get the contacts removed.

Thanks. From what I have heard and read this condition can occur in individuals with sensitive eyes or extreme myopia, with or without laser correction. (Seems to result mostly from internal eye pressure issues. ) Though the chances of this condition seem to be pretty rare, PRK is a better option than LASIK in reducing the chance of this occurring, as PRK doesn't require a flap, and therefore causes less chance of significant change to the internal eye pressure. I hope his recovery is going well!

Thank you for this video. I am pretty nervous I am going in for PRK on March 8th. Did you have a pretty high prescription before having the surgery? And did you have any issues with the contacts moving out of place during those 5 days from the eye just being dry? I saw some other videos of a couple girls who had PRK, and I guess its different for everyone. They were apparently in some terrible pain those few days after....But I do normally have a bit of dry eyes...and I am so scared I will be in pain! I also tend to get eyelashes in my eyes and I have pretty much been used to wearing contacts and my eyes hurting from just being sleepy or dry or what not. So I hope to have the same experience as you! :) I am happy you have recovered so well. And hope that you have continued to improve!

I had mentally prepared my self for the pain, but there was less than expected. (They also give you strong pain meds, more than what I needed) As for the contacts: drop, drops, drops. Keep you eyes really well lubricated and it will be fine. I wish you good luck and better vision! Let me know how it goes.

They said the procedure corrects for 20/20, but ultimately, it depends one how my eyes heal up. (any infection, dryness, etc. would slow the healing and cause worse results ) Basically they aim for 20/20 and get really close

I'm just finishing up day 3 and my vision is very blurry and my eyes feel. Irritated, makes me feel like I want to claw my eyes out. I really hope tomorrow is better.

@@myname3305 right now, after 2 weeks, everything is great! Still not perfect vision but close! Just those first 3 days we're hard, started to improve day 4. The procedure itself was painless!

No offence, but how is having hazy/cloudy vision being good to drive?
    Bad judgement call imho!

In a perfect world, there would be glare/starburst from oncoming headlights. It is noticeable, but not bad enough to prevent driving or be a real handicap
