*Oddworld:Exoddus* pretty much rolls over the one's mentioned here but *Rayman* , *Mickey's Wild Adventure* , *Hercules* , and *Skullmonkeys* were pretty amazing.
Fun fact: PS1 Diddn do nuffin wrong. While the Saturn was better at 2D processing than the PS1, the PS1 was still excellent at 2D processing. Superior compared to the 32x or anything else other than the Saturn for that matter for its time. The N64's only claim to fame was Yoshi's Story. Not much to write home about there. Even KI Gold was inferior compared to the arcade original. Sega really did mess up big time.
@@MatheusSSales-io2zu That's patently absurd, the CD ROM format can't "brute force" 2D games. If that were true, then the Sega CD should have been capable of rendering 2D games on par with the PS1, but it obviously couldn't. It couldn't even render 2D graphics better than the Genesis. It had hardware support for some improved sprite effects like scaling and rotation, but it had nothing to do with the CD format.
@@IbanBan27 Silhouette is more Super Smash Bros than platformer, and Mega Man is playing Shmup here. In the context Metal Slug would have ticked many more checkboxes than most included games here.
Castlevania isn't really a platformer. It followed the design of Super Metroid, leading to the genre of Metrovanias. Good video though - the A.I voice needs punching or deleting. Annoying with a capital A
Games where you move only in two Dimensions were way to underrated back then, as only 3D Games were hyped. Missed so many good Titles and at first i also stayed with the Super Nintendo (and my PC), as early 3D Games are clunky and ugly.
yeah that's right, the early 3d platformer games weren't that good, maybe only Crash Bandicoot PS1 was good in my opinion, and the rest I really prefer 2d Platformer
Everything was made for CRT tv's that had an aspect ration of 1,33 that means the "pixels" where not square plus the contrast, luminosity and saturation for anything for tv had to be arround 20% reduced to be displayed correctly else you would have had big issues and even audio signal distorted. Any of these games displayed on a proper crt TV from the 2000, would look like the newest and richest oled of these days in color saturation and contrast, and there was no pixel art crap like you kidies call it, to proper view lines on crt you had to make lines blurier and thicker.

PS1 pretty much was brute forcing 2D games with its extra storage with the CD-ROMs lol

When most games are 3D or not even a platformer, or don't belong in any top list. I counted 3 that should be here: Castlevania, Rayman and Gex.
Where's Metal Slug, the best 2d game ever?

Yes, I know that too, it's just that there aren't many metroidvania genre games on PS1, so I just put them in the platformer genre.

Well, a Metroidvania is just a more complicated Plattformer ;P
@@Azuris190 we will have to agree, to disagree. The Metrovaina's have become something in their own right. But that's my opinion.
Just because it’s an adventure game, doesn’t mean it’s not a platformer…platforming is the primary means of movement, for crimminy’s sake
If the PS1 wasn't designed to do 2D then how was it able to pull of these 2D games?
I believe it can use textured polygons as sprites.
