I mean... Kakashi's story is really common around soldiers. Everyone he loved or respected died. It is not uncommon for people to fear love when everything you love ends up dying. This is what made him a leader at the ANBU, he couldn't love and therefore was a perfect soldier to do the dirty work. He doesn't even know how love feels by now. It was always a character trait.
I wouldn't state that Kakashi is incapable of feeling love. We've seen plenty of evidence throughout both the original Naruto series and Shippuden to the contrary. Kakashi's experiences and mental fortitude made it possible for him to push aside his own feelings and morality in order to fulfill his duty as a shinobi, particularly during his time as part of Konoha's ANBU. While the losses he experienced in his life possibly did "blunt" his emotional responses, he very much was still capable of empathy, and even love. It very much is probable that Kakashi *is* afraid of entering a romantic relationship for fear of either losing them or dying and inadvertently forcing them to experience the same pain he has several times over in his life, and while I would be fine with this explanation if Kishimoto decides not to pair him up with another character, that doesn't mean that he won't, let alone can't, find love at some point. As an aside, though... As someone who was in the service, while it certainly isn't uncommon for military members to not be married even later in life, there are plenty of reasons for that which don't involve some emotional traumatic inhibition making it impossible for them to. It very much is probable that Kakashi *is* afraid of entering a romantic relationship for fear of either losing them or dying and inadvertently forcing them to experience the same pain he has several times over in his life, and while I would be fine with this explanation if Kishimoto decides not to pair him up with another character, that doesn't mean that he won't, let alone can't, find love at some point.
As an aside, though... As someone who was in the service, while it certainly isn't uncommon for military members to not be married even later in life, there are plenty of reasons for that which don't involve some emotional traumatic inhibition making it impossible for them to. Your comment paints a very misleading picture.
