  • Intrigued by the Ronin-S setup for a RED camera, I bit the bullet and got one. Spent an afternoon getting familiar with the setup, I can say that I'm super stoked with the performance! The gimbal seems to handle the camera just fine! The size of the red (not the weight) limits some of the Ronin-S's unique features... but with some creativity there is a lot that can be accomplished. I was able to mount the camera with the 4.7inch touch monitor attached to the camera. For this setup, I utilized the Ronin-S as is, without attaching a dual handle grip. I used the jetpack v-mount battery adapter and wore the battery on my belt. I could have attached the battery mount to the handle, but I actually preferred having the battery detached from the gimbal. The ability to use the gimbal with one hand was awesome. I shot this with a Zeiss 50mm f1.4 planar t lens as well as the Tokina 11-16mm f2.8 for the wide angle shots. Shot on a RED Gemini DSMC2 camera. I did not use any post stabilization in this video. I have always been curious about using a gimbal on a skateboard, and all of the bike footage I shot while riding a skateboard. The footage on the playground I shot on foot. I'm stoked with the investment in the Ronin-S gimbal. I hope you enjoy this first shoot!
