So excited for this series, and so grateful to everyone who has worked on it for the last 2+ years. Really grateful it's finally here. -John
p.s. Clint Smith's forthcoming book How the Word Is Passed is one of the best books I've ever read. It comes out on June 1st.

This is sounds amazing! I was in a discussion with someone a few days ago who said, "systemic racism is a farce" and honestly had no idea of the Jim Crowe laws that were instituted after slavery, or the exclusion from New Deal programs, or exclusion from housing programs in the 1980s, or the disparity in the criminal justice system, etc. This series is so needed right now!

This is really incredible. As a homeschool mom, i'm always looking for our history told for us and by us. while there are plenty of sources out there, this course is by FAR the best i've found. The delivery, tone, narration just...chef's kiss. I really appreciate the time and consideration taken in this course and so happy my son now has this as part of his curriculum.

Finally! Although I am not a Black/ African-American, I'm already excited for the next videos in this course.
I hope Crash Course would be able to create courses of people's histories in different regions of the world. Crash course world history, while ilvery interesting, simply doesn't have the needed space to explore the rich and complex histories of different peoples in the world.

These might be the most inspirational 6 minutes I've watched in a long while, and this is just an introduction. I believe that introducing an idea, enforcing it and giving it a personal connection is an artform in itself, and I am just astounded at this excellent delivery. With that, I'm eagerly expecting what Clint will help me understand next week.

Thank you Dr. Smith for sharing your story within this introduction. It nearly brought me to tears because I can relate. For so long I could see the results of what was done but I didn’t have the language or the historical knowledge to always explain why. There is nothing wrong with a demographic of people, what was wrong was the sins committed against them and the consequent stigma that led them to believe there was something wrong with them.

I am not African-American, but I am SO glad that this series exists. I hope that, in the future, Crash Course decides to go ahead and do similar series for other ethnic minorities, be it Latino, Asian, Pacific Islander, Native American, SO many possibilities to for more people to get their own series in the future. For now, though, I look forward to looking at this series and see it grow. Keep it up, Crash Course!!!

Watching from Pakistan. An avid reader of American history and I always wondered why doesn't someone do a Black American History which in many ways is the real American history or without which American History is truthless. Former foreign exchange student in Green bay Wisconsin and absolutely loved my time over there. Interestingly the friendliest people in the beginning of my year were African Americans and they helped me integrate in the American society.

The thing that really surprises me is that it took this long for this series to be made. However, as a white viewer, I realize my responsibility in not having helped in creating more demand for it. I apologize for that. I'm looking forward to watching every episode because, having graduated HS in 1971, my knowledge of this dimension of American history remains woefully inadequate, especially considering its importance.

Sounds and looks very interesting. Also seems we're not going to get 50 episodes of sadness and despair, a decent amount of episodes dedicated to the achievements of black Americans might help to not only make the series more true to history, but also lighten it up a little. Really looking forward to this!

It would be awesome if you did a video on the Black entrepreneurs of the industrial era! This is a space where teachers of US History do not have as many resources, so this would be a great add. Plus give recognition to some of the names who created Black economic power in the era.
