The announcement was supposed to be “the E Line(Expo) to 7th St/Metro Center Station in Downtown LA” is now “the E Line(Gold) to 7th St/Metro Center Station in Downtown LA/Atlantic Station in East LA” because Metro is currently testing out the new Regional Connector line which will link with the A(Blue), E(Expo), and L(Gold) Lines going through Downtown LA. After Regional Connector opens on 6/16/2023, the E line segment between LA and Santa Monica will still become the E line, but the line will be extended to East LA via Downtown LA. The new E Line will be running from East LA to Santa Monica and after Regional Connector opens for service the color of the E Line will change from aqua to gold. Here’s the ride of the E Line service traveling from Downtown Santa Monica to 7th St/Metro Center(which would be the last time the E Line runs between LA and Santa Monica).
Also here’s the history of the E Line when it started on 4/28/2012 as the Metro Expo Line from LA to Culver City and on 5/20/2016, the line was extended from Culver City to Santa Monica. In 2020, the line was renamed as the Metro E Line while retaining the aqua coloring on the map. On 6/16/2023, the E Line will be extended from 7th St/Metro Center to Atlantic Station in East LA replacing the L Line segment south of Little Tokyo/Arts District Station in which the color of the line will be colored gold on maps. This marks the end of 11 years using the aqua coloring on the line along with running from LA to Culver City and Santa Monica.
