    Normally, the window section is the 4th panel up, so you can look out without opening the door.

      Important so the windows are eye height for most people

    Just a heads up Home Depot & Lowe’s have installation panels kits for them very easy to install and helps a lot with heat. Trust me we live in Texas and know the notice the difference. Great Job.

    Maybe you like the window at the top but it would make me crazy! Garage panels are interchangeable so you could lower the windowed panel down to where you could see out of it…

    Nick & Jen, I sat and applauded you when the garage door went up and down with no problem. Nick you may have taken all day but the end result was No Injuries. When I worked with my Dad installing Cinema Projectors and massive Screen Rigs that had massive Springs to control the cable that opened and close the Tabs (Curtains in front of Screen) safety ruled. Dad always said it will take as long as it takes because our lives are more important. So in my book you and Jen did the right thing. Love how it looks from the outside. Hope you both enjoyed our Shower and Meal. Take care see you soon ❤️💙xx

    Nick, You might want to switch the top two panels to get more light and also to see out of the door.

    Being that is an uninsulated door it will be super hot or cold in the garage depending on the season. The solution is simple. Get some insulated panels (think foamboard with one side foil covered). The trick is to measure them as if you can slide them inside the lips of each section. Afte cutting it out for each section, cut the panels into 1/4s. This will allow you to slide each piece into the panel space and as they slide into place the overlaps mesh up and you have a full panel again but inside the edge lips. It will not be a perfect fit so a shim will be necessary to wedge them into place. Now you can just tape up the seams. I glued balsa wood panels over the foamboard and them caulked the edges and finished with priming and painting. All the materials used are lightweight and will barely affect the door movement. It will however reduce the heat transfer. Just remember which side that the foil goes on. You will notice the difference right away when the doors are done. The heat will stay in or the cold will stay out.

    Great job you two!
    Torsion springs can be dangerous but being cautious and focusing it's not to bad.
    White door trim would match the corners and door. Just saying.

  • @barryedwards1336
    @barryedwards1336 Месяц назад +1

    For the final fit, put a few drops of light oil on all door wheels and hinges, its surprising how much the door will operate more easily, you can put more spring tension or take it off ass required , here in the UK you can also adjust the springs by half a turn with care if you need too, so I don't see why you can't do it as well, as this style of door was invented in the US many years before we had them over here (we just copied your design) also you can add more stays ect to make the track more secure, any decent hardware store will have the angle with holes in it, so you don't have to go back to the manufacturer and pay through the nose to get more, great job by the way, and you are right its not to dangerous if you have common sense and take your time.

    To align the tracks easier, install the vertical support, then start rolling the door up (after winding the springs) so the door sets the track width perfectly then install the angled supports.

    To prevent corrosion due to snow or water, you can put a rubber seal on the last section of the door, the one that touches the ground. Good luck with the doors.

    The main thing is to make sure when it's going up and down that the rollers are not being pulled out of the hinges. And don't EVER try to adjust the spring without the Door locked down so it can't go anywhere. If it's moving to easy back the springs of a little and if it's hard to go up give the springs a couple more turns. Great job guys. Oh good thing for maintenance is silicone spray the springs about twice a year.

  • @ld5714
    @ld5714 Месяц назад

    Nice work with the door installation. The torsion springs can be dangerous if one is not careful. Nick did it exactly right, he was off to the side as he was rotating the bars to twist the spring and taking it slow, one at a time. Be careful and delibrate with safety in mind like Nick did and all will go well. The high lift will be more of the same just with the extension on the side rails. As it will be up closer to the ceiling heigth, it will be easier to secure the side rails up top. Are you going to be using Lift Master Jack Shaft openers? They are excellent and you would not be disappointed; they are what I use on my shop (12yrs) and the large shop I built at my sons house (3yrs) with no problems. Good luck with the additional doors and be safe. Have a great week and I'll see you on the next one. Larry, Central Valley, Ca.

  • @GoodwillCriminalsOfDallas
    @GoodwillCriminalsOfDallas Месяц назад

    A piece of rebar makes a nice turning bar. It needs to be at least 3 feet long. Each turn is 1/4 turn. Use a white paint pen to draw a line across the spring at the middle on the room side. As the spring tensions up it will change the line. You will have to find out the number of ideal full turns to get the correct tension. Ideally, if the garage door is full up, it will not roll back down on its own until you move it. You can put the doors in from the bottom up and stack them. You just install the rollers (hopefully nylon for quietness) on the sides as you go. Bottom is a single set and the next ones up to the top are the hinges between panels. Final position of the tracks from side to side has zero rubbing and a smooth movement. Most door sets have some play room built into the tracks.

    Spring installation instructions per an installation guide..
    Red is RIGHT Wound, but goes on left side - One thing to remember with garage door torsion springs and end drums is that they have paint marks on the end for a reason. All the red pieces should go on the left side of the garage when looking up from the interior. So in this case, put all the pieces back on the shaft so when looking at them from left to right they go: red drum - red spring - center bearing - black spring - black drum.
    My thoughts:
    Although the Red signifies RIGHT wound, I think it makes more sense if the Red stood for RIGHT side and then the R in red would stand for Right side, but would be a left hand wound spring.

    You do have a lot of beautiful wood exposed everywhere so why not leave the same wood type of trim as raw wood around
    your garage doors. They are already white which is good but to leave the door trim natural wood gives a sense of balance
    with all the rest of the colors used. You have plenty of green and you have the offset of white so now you can have the
    natural wood as a perfect balancing trim color. Now it looks like it should.....perfect. Me southern AZ.

    I have some really tall garage doors three of them in my RV garage. And they are 16 foot high opening. So periodically I have to have them adjusted and I’m not getting up on that tall ladder that I don’t own. Makes it easier to open or harder to open or hang onto that rope because you don’t want it flinging clear out of the Guide. So yeah you gotta be a little careful about that and be it. That’s not my occupation and my age is not gonna let me do it so every 2 to 4 years I have it adjusted depending on how it feels up the doors. One of the three doors actually has a garage door opener on it, the other two don’t. So technically that needs to be lubricated as well. And periodically it standard heights however it’s a 20 foot opening instead of a 16 foot opening. Now the RV garage they’re all 16 foot openings but I love that 20 foot open on the house garage. Because it makes it much easier to drive with your van pick up bed extended cab. even though it has a garage door opener, it needs to be maintained periodically too, so I just have them come periodically and maintain those doors however, when the one was put on the house, they didn’t insulate it and the whole thing would have to be redone because the size of the spring had to be a heavier one. So one day the springs had a problem. So when they were replaced, I said insulate that door, I’m gonna be the same thing for you in the RV garage. All of those doors are insulated and the windows at the top of those I’ll have the windows, but they’re double paining. Which I think is kind of cool because the one I originally had in Bullhead City was single pain and I think these are a little better window and it was the same people that did both doors, but I think they did improvements. And I found out this company is cheaper to have them do the whole thing and you go by the door and have to install it. However, you live way out in the middle of nowhere. But this is a local company so I’m able to have them come adjust them. Doors are looking good. Your house is looking awesome and properties looking great.

    Just saw how wide your fancy dually truck tires are. Any idea how many pebbles/rocks you fling behind you with those without the extra wide flaps? As someone that drives 2 miles up my dirt road onto our remote Hwy in NW Montana, I know about flinging rocks or having them flung at me. I have big mud flaps on my Dodge though so I don’t fling rocks at me at vehicles catching up in 2 miles as I pull up on the Hwy. I run 33” mud/snow AT tires so I pick up a ton of gravel on my road. Good job on your first garage door though!
