There's a concept in the US for college (i.e. university) basketball, called "survive and advance." You don't always need to be thriving to move forward in the basketball season, just survive and advance to the next round. I've taken this approach to my mental health at various stages and it works sometimes. (And other times it hasn't and I've had to have a therapist work with my on "grounding" exercises because she thought I was going to hyperventilate from sobbing so much during my session.) If it's helpful, take this mentality, "survive and advance," and use it where it makes sense. You're doing all the right things for you. I'm proud of you for getting this far.
I love this! I’ve unconsciously discovered this technique when I tell myself “just get through it, distress tolerance is not making matters worse”. So if you’re not making things worse for yourself or others, you’re surviving whatever it is you’re going through.
I was scared until you said you were going to therapy and that you won’t talk about it until you’ve fully gone through it. Good for you, these are signs of healing. Please also take any medication that you might need to help you through this period. We’re here for you.
Hi Zanna, I don't usually leave a comment but I had to say that you should be so proud of yourself for having the strength to do this video. My brother had a breakdown a few years ago and it did take him a long time to get to this point where he is now and he is thriving. He isn't the same person prior to the breakdown and I am so proud of him getting to this point in his life. You take all the time you need, there is no set time there is just love and support. I am sending all my strength and love your way! And with Ant and Bella by your side you have so much love! Take care ❤️
Sending you a big hug. Whatever you are going through, I hope it passes soon. I'd like to share some kind advice: your Deliveroo may have been expensive, but you don't need to justify it because it is raining or Wednesday or anything. You deserve it because you deserve it. That's all. We shouldn't feel the need to qualify and quantify our worth, we deserve to be kind to ourselves because we deserve unconditional kindness. ❤️
I dropped out of uni when I had a mental breakdown, it was so isolating and I thought there was no way back to myself. But as you said, I’m not the same as I was but I’m much stronger and an improved version of myself!! You will get there ❤
So happy to see you back on RUclips! Missed you and been worried. Sorry to hear what you have been going through, sounds really tough. I know it’s hard to hear this when you going through it but you will come out the other side and you will be BETTER and STRONGER! You seem like such a resilient, positive and strong person before this and I do think you will look back and almost see the positives in this time. It’s really odd to say it but I am grateful for the mental health struggles I’ve had. I had a breakdown in my twenties and I regressed almost child like, I don’t remember a lot of it but my mum had to drag me to a doctor. But I’m grateful for it now. I’m a stronger person, my outlook and priorities in life changed and I know my triggers and how to look after myself. Take care Zanna, your loyal fans will still be here when you are ready. X
I am an avid mental health awareness advocate and spoken word performer, and I love this so much. I travel the country trying to bring that awareness on stages, in classrooms, hospitals, and on my RUclips channel, so I get excited when I see other advocates. 💚
i went through something like this a couple of times in my life. i'm 42 now and i have, very luckily, found a combination of medications that keep me relatively stable and i'm finally at a point where i can say i'm doing really well, but i absolutely understand the struggle. i spent actual, entire years feeling completely at odds with myself; one time i took the birth control pill for 10 months and didn't connect it to the debilitating anxiety i also had at the time. anyway, don't feel like you need to share your story right now or ever, just know that there are people out here who have been there and are giving you support and love over time and distance. you do what feels right to do, whatever that may be.
I too have been through not one but 2 mental breakdowns and I am just going to say take your time in recovering because I just pushed through my first breakdown and didn’t properly process things that lead to it which inevitably lead to a second breakdown. Take your time don’t rush let yourself heal and come back to us when you are ready we will still be here rooting for you xxx thank you for sharing it’s so refreshing and I hope you are being kind to yourself xxxx
I also have two mental health/processing disorders (anxiety and sensory processing) and have only in the past couple of years have I taken real, conscious steps to accept that, and to accept how my brain works. Medication has been a godsend. It is SO normal to have mental health struggles, and the way that a disorder or diagnosis affects you can change in different seasons of your life. I hope that you can find some peace and healing, and know that your viewers and followers support you!
I had a very bad mental breakdown in the summer too (more june/july time though). My anxiety and depression just got so ridiculously out of hand i could barely function. I ended up on antidepressants which made me feel 100 x WORSE literally for the first 3 months (i was literally agoraphobic for the first 6 weeks) but I ploughed on and started feeling a lot better towards the end of october, as if a switch had flicked. I’m now so glad i stuck with the meds in the end. I have also been having therapy. Its been fucking tough and i’m still struggling on some days but I suppose you have just got to be kind and patient with yourself in times like these. There’s no quick fix after a mental breakdown unfortunately :( hope you feel better soon x
This describes me when I was in my 20s. Eating well and making sure you're hydrated will help a lot. Also make sure you're getting all your b vitamins (b12 imparticular) Reiki is very good and just putting your hands on your heart if you encounter a very bad anxiety attack is so good at calming you. Cut all toxic people out of your life and getting off Facebook will make you feel so much better too. Make time everyday for self care/love so you can relax more and heal. Best of luck I've been through it and there is never a lot of help out there the best person who can change your life is you x
So proud of you for sharing this! I've been there before.I'm still going through the motions&applying tools I've learned in therapy. One thing my therapist said that stuck out to me was "take it one moment at a time bc sometimes a day can be too much." Keep putting yourself first, give yourself grace along the way and just know that each day you wake up&put one foot in front of the other...that's progress! Doing your best looks different everyday. Don't forget that❤️🙏🏾
You're an amazing human Zanna & we all love you for being you, not what you do. Having been through similar, I assure you you'll rediscover that pure joy with added wisdom & strength. Take good care, be patient, embrace acceptance & be as kind to yourself as you are to others. Big virtual hugs & good health vibes xx🥰
Zanna you are doing great and you can be so damn proud of yourself for showing up each day despite everything going on.. even on the days when you don’t realise it yourself!! ❤
New to your channel - I’ve suffered with my mental health from a very young age - sometimes we just need to carve out some space and time for us to heal and recover - go easy, softly and gently with yourself hon. Sending lots of health from Sydney Australia xx
Oh Zannah ! Sending so much love, I got tears in my eyes at the bit at the end. I had an amazing ex who supported me through one of my lowest times and was quietly there just like Ant was when he came up and held you saying well done, it is the most beautiful steady thing to have. I'm going through a really tough time mentally too and have been for months especially since end of October - we got this. You're doing amazing, it's all about surviving>thriving and to me, you're thriving in your activities!
Zanna I have followed you for almost 4 years and I wanna say that you are not alone through this, we are many that are facing this, and It's so good to normalize this type of thing. You are now more strong that before, and I encourage so much because It's not easy, kisses from Spain💛
I have been feeling a bit rubbish today and watching this and seeing you be positive, prioritise your health and still have fun has made me feel a bit more positive inside too xx
My first introduction to your channel. Looking forward to being inspired to continue my journey in life. Sorry you have been struggling. Most of my life has been up ,down , recovery. Never gets any easier but I seem to always improve coming out knowing myself better.
So glad you wanted to share even this tiny little bit of your life rn, have been worried about you. You've always been so full of life & someone who knows how to make the most of it, and I'm glad that even now, you refuse to let the situation get the best of you, that you're still trying to live life to the fullest, while trying to get it back too. I truly wish you all the very best, and hope that one day soon you will be able to share more with us, for no other reason than that it will be a sign that you are feeling stronger. Good luck with your recovery. Sending you tons of love & good vibes! 🥰 Take care!
This felt the most authentic video of yours, it feels almost wrong to say how much I enjoyed it, it really comes from a place of appreciation for you, your bravery and your candour. And your love for the beings in your life. I'm looking forward to seeing how your recovery continues. Sending compassion and respect.
Much love to you. I’m so sorry you’re going through this. Therapy can be tough but so transformative. You will get through this but take the time you need to heal. We’re all here supporting you and there’s no pressure to vlog. You come first. Xx
Take your time and only share what you feel able to. Recovering and learning new ways to cope and look after yourself is really not easy and you should be proud of yourself for each day. Take care of yourself xx
You will most definitely come out on the other side and eventually be thriving! Take it one day at a time and take care of your needs the best you can. I also suffered from something similar in 2018 and it has indeed been a long journey of healing and rebuilding but i can honestly say that Ive never felt better than I do now. I think anyone, whether or not you've suffered a mental breakdown could afford to embark on healing journey. Yes at first, after my mental breakdown, it was truly difficult and I had to get on low dosages of psyche meds which bascially saved my life to be frank. The meds gave me the ability to work on myself and i've been doing so ever since. You will learn things about yourself you never imagined having gone through that and now im at such a good, self aware and self loving point in my life that in my heart I feel deeply that going through that hell was somehow a blessing in disguise. Thank you for sharing this truly vulnerable and raw truth you had to endure. It will help a lot of people to also get the help they need. Thank you!
Thank you for sharing... sending you lots of positive energy. Lots of us suffer quietly with this issue..... videos like this just lets us know that we are not the only ones out there struggling, and this is a BIG help. Thank you.
Hi Zanna! Happy you are back and coping. Coping is the first step, and you will get through this. There will be a light at the end of the tunnel. Sending you so much love. I hope you and Ant have an amazing time on the trips.
By finding out what it is is the first step to recovery so you are doing well it’s a journey of ups and downs it’s hard work but the positive is that you are dealing with it so take your time you will get there ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Gosh Zanna, I can see and hear that it’s really tough and difficult for you. Life is a journey and you should take all the time you need to figure this out for yourself. And you should share whatever you feel like sharing or not! Big hugs 🫂
Boy I’ve missed ya! So relieved to see you, I’ve been thinking of you. So happy to see a vlog from you, I’m sure the more you talk about it, you’ll feel the pain and path emerge. You will also discover how many of us have also been through our own journey of a mental health crisis ❤ Well done for getting the ball rolling as they say, sometimes I still have the odd moments and I use the fake it until I make it attitude and eventually the moment passes. There is a-lot of realisation in these moments, simplicity is so underrated, family & personal time is taken for granted at times. Our body’s so amazing & just says 🛑 stop! You do you, you are loved and are a very special human. You have the Great Anthony, Mummy & Daddy Van Dyke and you sound like you taking care of yourself with all the fabulous ways to reconnect with your mind, body & soul. Meditation, journaling, therapy and love! You’ve got this! This girl can and will ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
It is so good to see you. It's like seeing an old friend that I've missed. I can see your bravery shining through and I know you're going to be different, yes. Reinvented Zanna will have an insight that only comes with finding the edges of oneself in hardship. Im looking forward to seeing you again when you're ready luv. Sending a massive hug to you!💕
Thank you so much for sharing! I fall so quickly into the mode of feeling like I'm the only one struggling from time to time. Blessings to you on your healing process xo
Sending lots of love to you and wishing you the best with your ongoing recovery. It is really brave of you to share your struggles with mental health as there is still so much stigma attached.
Zanna you're a wonderful human being and it makes me so SO sad that you're going through this. Thank you so much for sharing. As someone who has had mental breakdowns (if that's what you feel it is then that's what it is!) I can't tell you how much it means to me that you're being open about this when you don't owe anyone anything ♥️. Speaking from experience the old you might return, but it might not. It's right that this experience changes you. You will come out the other side I promise. And out the other side will be a new you that will have SO MANY gifts and SO MUCH COLOUR hat the old you could never have understood. You'll love her 💕
Sudocream works so so well for spots, apply it to clean skin on an evening and sleep with it on... It's medicated cream that drys spots out over night maybe 2 nights if the spots bigger. It's a miracle cream for spots xx you look gorgeous by the way and have just started watching.
Sending you lots of love! I went through several major depressive episodes but with learning coping skills I'm in a much better place. I say that to let you know there's hope in whatever you are going through. Maybe take some time to slow down...like actuallyslow down. Even when you take a break it seems like you have at least a hundred different plans going on...and thats not an exaggeration. Again sending you love!😊🧡
I completely feel for you and sympathise with you xx I had a mental breakdown 2 years ago and still take it day by day xx exercise definitely helps me and support from others xx you are not alone xxx
Hello Zanna, hang in there it will be okay. You have the support of the most important people in your life and are going to come out on the other side.
So sorry for what you have gone through. I wish you well. Please be kind to yourself & take every day as it comes. You are amazing! I hope you have a restful Christmas break & wishing you strength & positive vibes. Xx
Hey Zanna, I just want to say well done for jumping back on the horse and doing this vlog, it can’t have been easy, but I bet you feel relieved having gotten it done. I’ve followed you for a while but only really started watching or paying attention the last few months, which is while you’ve been on hiatus, I’ve been devouring and being inspired by your past content. I’ve suffered trauma and mental health issues in the past, and your content is actually helping me out of that, after a 12 year stint of beating myself up and feeling not good enough. I love hiking, wild swimming and wellness and you’ve got me thinking about all of that again after having given up on all the things I love for so long. I know you’ve got a journey ahead of you but this will give you a super power, another gift to relate and help people, and I know you will. Just allow this process to move through you and know there’s nothing wrong with you, it’s just something to learn from, that is all.
Thank you for sharing whatever feels right to share! I respect your thoughtful care of yourself and boundaries which of course need adjusting over time based on all sorts of factors. I’m happy to see you, Ant, and sweet Bella here!
Darling, you are so brave. There’s no wrong way to express how you’re feeling. Our brains are the most important organ, and yet, because the brain controls how we feel and how we express ourselves, mental health disorders and conditions are those that we are the least able to vocalize about. What you are doing now, is exercising your healing muscles; all while sharing to help others feel less isolated in their own mental health-health. Brava, darling! PS; I’m a survivor of substance use disorder and Anxiety Disorder and can tell you from experience, that you have what you need to thrive - good professionals and good support. Keep rocking your (sometimes sucky) awesome journey!💯💕☺️✌🏻
Hey Zana :) Thank you for your honesty in this video, really appreciate that you decided to open up on this channel about how things have been this last couple of months. Loads of hugs and strength, we will be here for you when you feel ready and in the meantime... will continue enjoying any type of content you create, always so inspiring :)
I'm so sorry that you have been going through this. I woke up at the beginning of September with exactly the same symptoms and have never related to a video so much. I know how hard the daily struggle is, you are not alone. Sending you so much love and strength
You’ve only recently come into my life and I’m so glad you did love your workouts and your chats sending you love and support hope you’re feeling better and adjusting ❤
Take the time you need Zana. Life is so unpredictable. We never know what we have to deal with around the corner. Give yourself some grace. Hope you will get back to yourself.
Zanna, I am never usually one to comment, but I was so drawn too. I am so so sorry for what you are going through right now, but I thank you so much for sharing even just these details in this video. It’s relatable content that touched my heart more than I can even share ❤ It reminded me that I am not alone in mental health challenges/ journeys like this. I wish you all the best and all the love in your process of healing ❤
I am always just amazed by the journeys u go on, the hiking up places that make me scared just to look at the picture! But we are all human and have to deal with things in life. It seems cruel that u have been going through such a rough time. Your a beautiful soul and seem to have a great guy by your side. You do what u r comfortable doing and do not push urself. Mental health is everything, and for those of us that follow u, will b here when ur ready…. You are an inspiration, thank u for being so honest. ❤
💚💚. You are doing great with your journey (MH journey can be hard, slow, uncomfortable etc mine certainly is) People don’t always need to know the in & outs of things. Just do what’s right for you!!
Just found your channel today, wanting to look at my home county cause I've been away for a while. I have also had a similar experience to you, a few times. I promise things will get better, thanks for being so open about it! Your openness is a strength that will help you recover.
Sending so much love and compassion to you while you navigate your way through this difficult time. My daughter went through a similar breakdown which was massively challenging. I have a lot respect for you being brave and showing up here to share. 💕
Sending you all my love! So happy to see you!!❤️ Try not to stress over that you don't feel like yourself, accept what is and you will create a new awesome version of yourself🌟
So lovely to see you gorgeous lady, you do what you need to do, and we are here for you, we love all of your content, most of all, we want you to look after yourself, be well, be healthy, be loved xxxx
Love the stripe linen, it looks beautiful! Just wanted to say with your new journey, never feel like you have to explain yourself or your situation to anyone! Sending you lots of love!
I also had a mental breakdown and what helped me was meditation, breathwork, cold plunges and maybe you can look into microdosing or plant medicine one day? Good luck and just know it will get better!!
Amazing to speak about, continue to follow you and your journey... take all the time you need and hope your enjoying the Maldives... one of my dream destinations ❤
That's so brave that you are able to talk about it ,I am wishing you all the best in the world, one day at the time and focus on the positives ,sending you my love 💓 ❤️
Hannah, totally understand what your going through. There are so many different types of mental health issues out there, so to me everyone is different and deals with it in their own way and what works for them. By talking to us about it you are helping not only yourself but others who maybe going through similar things. Sending much love to you, take care and enjoy your break away. Lovely to see you. ❤
So wonderful to see you back on You tube Zanna. Sending loads of love and I hope you have a wonderful holiday. Keep being kind to yourself and giving yourself credit for how strong you have been to get through the days, whatever that might look like xx
Hi Zanna, so amazing to see you back. Take all the time you need, and whatever content you choose to create and not create, it's a joy to engage with. Have a lovely holiday!! Sooo jealous
I've followed you for years and will continue to support you and your content through thick and thin. You're a real inspiration, Z. Just keep swimming 💙 xxx
It's really good to see you back here again. Having said that, the most important thing is to take care of yourself! Do what feels right and take all the time you need. 🥰
Sending you so much love and energy for healing - you are incredible and so brave for sharing this and committing to yourself during such a tough time.
Zanna, I have followed you for years. I am so sorry you have had such an awful time. You are truly an amazing human! Please just take your time, we are all behind you!!! Sending you lots of love and the biggest hug XXX
Well done for speaking out. We are all so proud of you. Don’t give yourself added pressure. There is a wonderful RUclips channel called ‘Apronful of Stones’ who went through something very similar. She didn’t speak of it much but she’s northern too. Her channel is very calm and relaxing. Maybe have a look into this. Above all, don’t put any pressure on yourself regarding time and how long the process will be, and also filming. We will be here whenever you have content for us. Prioritise your mind and wellness my love. I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas and new year. If you don’t, it’s just another day and next year will be different. I’m only 29 and I’ve had to process a lot this year as I had cancer. Look for the wins in everything and if you can’t find one then chocolate cake is always the answer 🤭xxx❤🙏🏻 Also you may never want to discuss details of your struggle and diagnosis. That’s absolutely fine and you’re entitled to privacy xx
You’re such a strong person and I’m genuinely so happy about this update! I love your content and I think you should do what you feel like doing and what’s best for you. You got this❤
Sending a lot of love ❤! Thank you for sharing. I had also a mental breakdown at the beginning of August. It’s not easy to get back in the saddle…. Take care and again thanks for sharing. Greetings from Germany!

100% this ❤️❤️
You will most definitely come out on the other side and eventually be thriving! Thank you!
Whatever you are going through is your superpower! Turn it around and make it ‘what makes you’! You’re amazing the way you are!
Thank you for sharing... sending you lots of positive energy. Lots of us suffer quietly with this issue..... videos like this just lets us know that we are not the only ones out there struggling, and this is a BIG help. Thank you.
I just want to give you a big hug! You will get through it all, I promise 💛
Big hugs 🫂
You don’t know when these things hit you!! But with therapy, work and support you’ll get there. Sending you all the love, happiness and health xxxx
I hear ya. It’s very frightening. Thankyou for sharing. Your honesty is very helpful to me and I’m sure many others❤️🇨🇦
It's so great to have you back Zanna
This girl can and will ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Girl you are amazing. You do you and take all the time you need to figure things out. Take good care of yourself and welcome back!
I was recommended the book the compassionate mind when I was unwell with my mental health, it might be a helpful to you?
Take it easy lovely 💜 and know that this community supports you (and loves you)! And have a wonderful holiday season 😊
So lovely to see you Zanna! Just take your time and heal, one day at a time. Warm hugs and love 🤗🤍🤗
Lovely to see you update on your youtube Zanna. Be kind and patient with yourself as you go through this unknown journey.
Continue taking good care of yourself, it's good to see you but you need to put yourself first right now 🤗 Wishing you a restful December ❤️
Praying you have better days ahead💕 you are strong and powerful. Be gentle and kind to yourself xxx
I completely feel for you and sympathise with you xx I had a mental breakdown 2 years ago and still take it day by day xx exercise definitely helps me and support from others xx you are not alone xxx
As women, we have an increased risk of mental health following contraceptives. Something that is rarely discussed, sending you so much love x
Hello Zanna, hang in there it will be okay. You have the support of the most important people in your life and are going to come out on the other side.
BIG HUGS to you Zanna. Wish you a quick healing process. Keep smiling!!!
So sorry for what you have gone through. I wish you well. Please be kind to yourself & take every day as it comes. You are amazing! I hope you have a restful Christmas break & wishing you strength & positive vibes. Xx
Sending you a massive hug and a brushing teeth dance, take all the time you need, we are here for you ❤
Hey Zanna, I just want to say well done for jumping back on the horse and doing this vlog, it can’t have been easy, but I bet you feel relieved having gotten it done.
"This will give you a superpower" - your comment is o helpful to more than 1 person! Thank you
I can relate! Wish you all the best with your recovery - lots of love!!
Sending you all the warm thoughts and positive vibes. I'm so glad you have a wonderful support system around you during this time. You've got this. ❤️
Hi Zanna, you are doing so well. wishing you all the best for your recovery and thanks for sharing today.
So much love to you Zanna. You’re not alone. You’re brave speaking about your thoughts and feelings. Xx
u r brave. hope u can share soon as i am sure many also struggle with the same. take care and hugs
I'm so sorry that you have been going through this. I woke up at the beginning of September with exactly the same symptoms and have never related to a video so much. I know how hard the daily struggle is, you are not alone. Sending you so much love and strength
So nice to see you back on RUclips again, hope you don't feel pressure with doing videos, life is more important, hope you feel better soon x
So glad to see you zanna! Even if it's just once in a while! Hang in there
Zanna, I am never usually one to comment, but I was so drawn too.
I'm cheering for you Zanna. I love your vlogs and will look forward to each one. Do what you need to do to heal.
So happy to see you!!❤️
Try not to stress over that you don't feel like yourself, accept what is and you will create a new awesome version of yourself🌟
Two books I highly recommend are "hope and help for your nerves" by Claire Weekes and "at last a life" by Paul David
I’m so sorry. I’ve been there. Be gentle with yourself.🙏🏻🤍🙏🏻
Look for the wins in everything and if you can’t find one then chocolate cake is always the answer 🤭xxx❤🙏🏻
Also you may never want to discuss details of your struggle and diagnosis. That’s absolutely fine and you’re entitled to privacy xx
Lovely to see your gorgeous face and beautiful smile hun. Keep looking after yourself 🥰 All the love and positivity to you babes ❤️😘 Xoxo 🇦🇺
You’re such a strong person and I’m genuinely so happy about this update! I love your content and I think you should do what you feel like doing and what’s best for you. You got this❤
Wishing you the best - have a great vacation.
Glad to see you again Zanna and thank you for sharing your struggles with us - wishing you healing and recovery ❤️
A brave and raw blog. Sending positive and healing vibes. Big hugs x
So wonderful to watch your video. Can't wait for more when you're ready. You're brilliant Zanna :)
Lovely to see you, this probably took guts too. Thank you for just being honest and hope you get to feel better soon xx
Sending a lot of love ❤! Thank you for sharing. I had also a mental breakdown at the beginning of August. It’s not easy to get back in the saddle…. Take care and again thanks for sharing. Greetings from Germany!
You are amazing Zanna, thankyou for sharing this🫶
Sending you so much love, you have got this💛
