I love a good overhead lamp and a mini vacuum cleaner to clean up all the threads and bits of fabric. Not exactly sewing tools but it makes sewing so much easier for me. 👍👍
Very informative I just started watching videos to learn how to sew, my first attempt this weekend will be an apron. Thank you for sharing. Also I love your blouse the style is very nice.
My favourite sewing tools are my machines 😂 I had been using a very very simple sewing machine for many years but never really ended up making full garments because the results just weren’t worth the effort, time and money. Now that I have better machines the results are professional and I actually want to wear what I make! Life changing genuinely! I know that sounds extreme but having clothes that fit my unique body is honestly life changing… ❤
@@kristinkelting8611 I’ve only ever owned a simple brother machine and a husqvarna jade 20 I think it is. I now only ever use the latter as it just makes sewing a breeze!
@@kristinkelting8611 we actually stock the one Anouchka is referring to here www.sewessential.co.uk/husqvarna-viking-jade-20-sewing-machine If you're in the market for a new machine and want to have a chat don't hesitate to contact us. Great video, thank you. I love my bent surgical tweezers. Pack of 3 from AMZ. I have a pair by each machine (sewing, embroidery & serger/overlocker) plus at my cutting table. I also love my rotary cutters & creative grid rulers.
I loved that you didn't just show the items but showed how to use them. I love my duckbill scissors as they make grading seams so much easier. I also like my pinking shears when cutting seams, especially with vintage garments to give an authentic look. A walking foot makes tricky fabric so much easier to sew.
Thanks Maureen I'm so glad that was helpful to you, yes duckbill scissors are incredibly useful. A walking foot is so useful and pinked fabric is certainly pretty too
I like to use Roxann’s Glue Baste It or even just regular children’s school glue to hold zippers in place when I am making bags. I clip the zips in place, let the glue dry, and then sew the zip seams on several bags at once. Great for holding pockets in place, too.
I have a little piece of plastic with cut outs with different measurements all around the sides which is great, I use it to mark hems etc. Another essential for me is a humper jumper so that very thick seams feed through my machine evenly.
I've been using an awl for gathering / pleating fabric. Recently, I've been using very sheer fabric and needed something less sharp asap. Found a blackhead remover tool and worked perfectly.
thank you so much that's really kind of you to say. The blouse is the Saturday Skirt Set and I've just made the skirt too (sewalong coming) you can see the pattern here www.sewessential.co.uk/saturday-skirt-set-friday-pattern-company-sewing-pattern fabric here www.sewessential.co.uk/paisley-print-viscose-woven-fabric-multi and review of the blouse here ruclips.net/video/kUVO9NxSUiQ/видео.html
Great video Lucy. I have most of those tools now after seeing them on your various videos, but I definitely need those scissors and the tailor's chalk tool - as you say the pieces of chalk are too chunky. My favourite is the ham - use it all the time 😊
One of my go to’s in an adjustable zipper foot. I use it for regular zips but because it’s adjustable I can move the foot out of way properly to move the zipper pull
yes lots of people love those, I always used a concealed zipper foot for invisible zips, but I know an adjustable can useful for lots of other tasks too
Thanks for your tips and tricks … I have a Pfaff … I’ll look into the foot guide for multiple stitch width …. I frequently have issues with 1/8” seams.
I have a silver thimble which fits just right and I love my Japanese quilting thread which I bought from a quilt shop ages ago. I like the products you have shown especially the rubber ended seam ripper.
Lucy if only I had seen the Janome edge foot a few months ago. I bought one from a site in US who claims to have invented it. I am sure she did but by the time I had paid postage the customs then again customs and delivery of the demand for customs payment here in France it came to almost €70. I also find the plastic side a bit wobbly. Aaaaaaarrrgghhh

I absolutely need my tracing wheel. Together with a sheet of chalked paper. I would love to find a double wheel to mark two lines at once which is stable enough for accuracy. I have two already but I'm not happy with them. Still looking for good quality.
have you tried a Clover one? Their products are always good quality and they have a double one here: www.sewessential.co.uk/clover-double-tracing-wheel
No you should always use feet that are the same brand and compatible with your machine. I linked two similar Brother ones too here: www.sewessential.co.uk/brother-stitch-guide-foot-f035n and here www.sewessential.co.uk/brother-vertical-stitching-alignment-foot-f063 it would be worth checking if it is compatible with your machine, any issues drop us an email.
oh dear I'm sorry to hear that I've used it again and again on lots of different fabrics without any issues. If you find it fiddly you could try using tweezers to peel the backing off

both great ideas, we actually stock some really nice, bright lamps for that very reason and I love the mini vacuum idea!
Bought my purple thang from NANCY'S NOTIONS years ago. But I have to have my hem gauge on hand..got it in home EC class in 1973. Still perfect.

I like a thin sliver of soap for marking, it doesn't wear off as easily as chalk, especially for beginner sewists.

I love all your products that you showed but also like my little 6 inch ruler that has the little slide thing on it to help measure seems.
oh yes they are so useful i agree
I'm very grateful that you introduced me to the purple "thang" Lucy, I use it all the time!
Same here.
It's crazy how such a tiny little, inexpensive tool can be so incredibly useful
Great tips! Thank you!
Excellent overview of of some very useful sewing tools! Thanks, Lucy 😊

oooh that sounds useful and yes I love a humper jumper - it makes the impossible possible!
Thank you Lucy. I love the wonder tape and have found, like you, it is invaluable when attaching an invisible zip...Grace
oh it's just the best isn't it Grace?!

oooh the Japanese quilting thread sounds gorgeous
Thank you Lucy great tools to have!
I honestly use them every project so I agree

I have purchased the pens that iron off, I find it better than chalk
Thank you for this tutorial I also think a good iron
absolutely Elsa, so important for a nice, neat finish
Thank you!!
Lucy, what pattern is the shirt you’re wearing?
I have the same needlework scissors. Love them and the Chaco chalk pens.

@@SewEssential thank you, but I have such a clover. It's really wobbly.
I guess I have large thumbs and can't bear to use little scissors for trimming. I prefer using knippers.
yes we stock snips, which some people prefer
Lucy you forgot your iron ! It is essential for every project.
Hi , can I ask when and why would you use the chalk , please 😊
Also you forgot to link the marking tool (Chaco pen) ❤ I found it easily though…
Whoops! I've just added it in.... Thanks for
letting me know ;-)
Does the Husqvarna seam guide foot work on other makes, I have a Brother ….

I never get the wonder tape to stick well
I know. Some fabrics are worse too. I find it doesn’t stick well.
oh dear I'm sorry to hear that I've used it again and again on lots of different fabrics without any issues. If you find it fiddly you could try using tweezers to peel the backing off
I use a chopstick instead of the purple thang
I thought about that as a substitute. Thx for sharing the same idea
Me too! 😊
I was furious when i bought what was advertised as silk organza to use as a pressing cloth and it melted all over my iron
we only stock genuine silk organza and having used it for years it definitely doesn't stick to the iron.
Great on with it , and stop dribbling on
xXX👍👍👍
