    Hey Mark - we'd hit the wall trying to get our Smoke Bush uprooted, but your video gave us the confidence and tooltips to get the job done. Out with faffing about with a pruning saw to get at the roots and in with a Lopper from Argos that did the job in about 20 mins :)

    I’m wondering how many hours it took to remove this conifer and how long you will wait before removing the second one. Personally, I’d have to wait at least a week after lots of pain relievers, hot soaking baths and working up my courage to do that hard work all over again. Don’t you have a third one along a pathway as well? Congratulations on getting this one gone. 👏

      Haha. Ingrid, your message made me giggle. I have almost finished the 2nd one already. It takes about 1 full day each. But i did it over 3 separate dates. Yes you are correct about the third very very large one. I intend tackling that next week. Watch this space for a 'fast forward' /timelapse video. Best wishes. Mark

    I did it in summer and took a half hour in the morning and like the same in the evening to get one out. So i ended up taking 3 out. spitzhacke was useful and some massive long ironstake.. This was past summer but i just cleared one 3 m tall conifer out and planted Eibe, which is a local native Plant. More suited for this Enviroment.

    • @MarksHouseandGardenUK

      Hi neil. I left several roots in the ground. I am confident that they will just rot away and be taken by worms and microorganisms. They haven't regrown. 18 months later. Mark

    Handy tips, I have a row of large conifers which are staying purely because they would just be impractical to remove, especially alone. There is one about half the size of the one you removed here along my back wall which I intend to remove so this was good advice :)

    • @SVSunnyJim
      @SVSunnyJim 2 месяца назад

      These trees are an absolute nuisance. People plant them because they are cheaper than erecting a proper boundary fence.
      Within a few years they become difficult to manage, acidify the ground, block out light, and impinge on the amenity of others.

  • @martyward8997

    • @MarksHouseandGardenUK

      I didn't want to use a saw on the roots. It was perfectly easy with the loppers. Also there are water pipes and electrics near the roots. Thanks for your input though Marty, i always welcome i different perspective. Both conifers and their roots now long gone. Mark
