The 'ultimate competitor' would have worked on his technique to stay within the law. It's not a bug with Farrell, it's a feature. He intends to hurt and if possible stretcher the guy he's tackling (Darcy Graham, Calcutta Cup 2019), with one eye on the ref for whether it's not quite too high, not quite too late. The calculation is that a yellow may be worth getting rid of a dangerous opponent. So give him a red, a long ban, rule him out of the World Cup and let England move on from his era. He was never Ntamack or Russell or Sexton. He's a one-speed international player with a decent boot (which he always used too often) and an obvious inability to change gear when the gameplan isn't working. England will be better off without him.

But those acts should not affect the length of his ban. Do you not think he hasn't done that in previous incidents. Any legal mind/disciplinary panel worth their salt will just say that the principle of mitigation clearly does not work with Farrell based on previous incidents of this kind.

As good as Genge and Sinkler are they can't seem to scrummage together and against the better teams they just can't compete. Scrum half is also a problem and why they are sticking with the old boys I don't know when we have the likes of Randall and Mitchell waiting in the wings. The last issue is our discipline, we don't seem to have any!! The refs these days don't tolerate it, especially at test level and we're only making it harder for ourselves.
