I sketch with a Twsbi diamond 580 pen with a fine nib. The flow on the paper is really excellent, wet, and the pen always works first time from standing. It takes a large fill of ink, and is a piston filler. Because of this experience it would make an excellent travel pen. Thanks for the video.
I love the Pilot Kaküno for sketching. A good tip for nib dry out, I usually have a bottle of water with me at all times for hydration. Keep a spare bottle top that you can sprinkle some water into and dip the tip in every so often to keep the pen going good. That or carry one of those teeny spray bottles and spray your tip. The nib dry out struggle is real. I realized this makes a great fix if you practice calligraphy and you have to write slowly for a while.
I haven't even watched this yet as I was watching one of your older videos (you were swatching Birmingham Pen Co. Projector Film, Lichen, etc...) and you said you are in Colorado! ME TOO! I always get excited for pen people in my home state!!! Hi Neighbor!
1. Yay for art-related pen content! 2. I threw out my Lamy Joy, I just struggled too much with it. 3. To others drawing with desk pens like me, I recommend the Guider Desk Pen from Fountain Pen Revolution. By far my most comfortable pen, and you can choke WAY up the barrel, which does not get too thin. 4. Another great permanent gray ink is Noodler's Lexington Gray. 5. Do you ever draw with Franklin-Christoph or Sailor pens? Since you like the nibs…
I wrote with the sailor 1911s that contained that extra fine nib, but I found it too small for my liking. I would probably use a larger sailor with the right nib, but I just don't have any larger sailors with the extra fine nib. The larger sailors are my favorite and feel better in my hand. I have used FCs for sketching before, but I didn't want them to get beat up--which is what I tend to do with sketch pens. If you find a FC model that you like, I'm sure it would work great for sketching. And, I agree with you on the Lamy Joy--I may end up abandoning it for good. I'll have to check out that desk pen you recommended! I do like Noodler's lexington gray but find it way too wet--at least the batch that I have. And I'm not supporting Noodler's anymore.
I pulled a nib from a Platinum desk pen and out it on a Preppy nearly a year ago. It has written first time every time I’ve used it, and sometimes sits for weeks on my desk. The nibs in that inexpensive desk pen are great. I also agree with your preference for Opus 88 and the Eco. They just seem to keep the nibs wetter and dont dry out as much. My favorite colors of permanent ink are from Kakimori - Lichen was one of the most perfect sketch colors I found for landscapes and I was broken hearted to find it was discontinued when I went to order a bottle. R&K Emma is a poor second for color (but pretty), and Ive tried mixing my own from a couple of their newer colors, but it’s not quite there. It was a sticky ink tho! Thanks for sharing your thoughts and collection!
Oh, I didn't know the desk pen nib would work on a Pretty. Thanks for the tip, I'll have to try that. The green ink I had in the double ended pen is Lichen from Kakimori--it flows really well--when it is not in a ball point lol.
No, not a professional artist-it just takes up most of my spare time when I’m not working my day job. You can check out my Instagram @mystery_b_arts to see some of my art work if you like.
I Love using my TWSBI GO's with Rohrer & Klinger "Thea" sketch ink! have you tried Dr. Ph Martian's liquid acrylic for more abstract art? i dont put it my pens but use it straight from the pipette.
I wish I could try out this de atramentis document ink, yet Canadian Amazon , wants $ 75.oo for 35 ml.... I bought 2x Platinum ink for $20 cad each ...$40 total ...and now i have ink for days. I am still trying to figure out , which of the inks, that noodlers makes that is water proof and fountain pen friendly. Have you tried out *Deleter Manga Ink* Marker & Water Proof Extra Black Ink, Matte Black, 30ml/Bottle, only $16 cad
I literally just bit the bullet and found a fantasía on Endless Pens! I just need to find a good flex nib for it should I choose to go that rout. Please let me know if you have a flex nib replacement source for the fantasia off the top of your head. Otherwise, I’ll keep it a stub nib. I have a #6 stub on my TWSBI, but I believe this one will be a smaller stub. I’m excited!
I was wondering if it’s possible to change the nib on a twsbi eco… I bought the stub nib and I dunno what I was thinking and I hate it.. rather have the EF to use for sketching…
You can, but it is a little tricky because you have to make sure you are very careful with the feed when you remove it (that is the only way to change out the nib). The feed is very fragile and can break easily. If you pull it by holding both sides instead of front and back, it might be less likely to break--I've had success with that. Some size 5 nibs from various brands will fit, but for some reason not all of them do, but you can also get spare twisbi nibs without the nib unit in some places if you do a little googling.

TWSBIs are great. They are always on my recommendation list.

Thanks for the tips on re-wetting nibs. These are all good options if you are willing to take the extra steps.
wow, did not know you could get waterproof ink for fountain pens, defo one thing to look out for, and thank you so much
It’s a game changer for sure.

Very interesting, I’ve seen these pens before but have never tried them. I think it’s a good way to use permanent inks. The red one looks gorgeous.

I have thought about getting an opus 88 for sketching, but I’m unsure about the nib to get. Great video!
Thanks again for your wonderful video. Love to see your writing pens. You are a professional artist?

I do have their acrylic ink, but I don’t usually use it for sketching and instead use it more in abstract art pieces.
😮 which pen is the one you used to replace the back on carbon pen? Love it! I have thought about sawing it off 😅

Excellent and informative! I did not know that ptl5000a has been discontinued. What barrel you used in that desk pen? It looks great. 😊
I think that was from a cheap moonman pen--it just happened to fit. It is one of the smaller models, but I can't remember the specific one.
I wish platinum would create another pen with that wide feed. I got the red one to put brown pigment ink and I’m not sure it’s as good as the black…
The Lamy nib is not seated firmly enough. Push it in with more pressure. I had the leaking problem with one of my Joy pens when I installed a new nib.
Thank you!!
I always use DeAtramentis Document ink. Big problems for me with Platinum Carbon ink.
Tip: Get a basting syringe and you can refill your cartridges.
I've tried that--the flow is never as good from a cartridge in my opinion though.
3:05 so is this the ‘cursive’ lamy nib which has an architect style tip? I got confused by the chapter headings and description not matching…
Yes, it is the cursive nib. Not sure why it is called that, but it’s a great nib.
Can you really put waterproof ink indiscriminately in any fountain pem???
If they are made for fountain pens, yes. You should clean your pens more often though to prevent clogging.
I just bought a Bluedew pen. I was torn between that and the Opus 88. I’m actually wishing I’d gone with the Opus 88 :/
I think the Opus 88 is a bit more versatile, but the Bluedew is fun too.

@@MummyBrown I just responded to your comment on my other video about that. I gave you some options.
@@MysteryArts thank you, you’re a doll!
I dont see the Twsby on the list here. do they have a cartridge one?
Sorry about the omission. Yes, it is called the TWSBI Swipe: www.twsbi.com/search?q=swipe

@@MysteryArts ok maybe I’ll try that before I buy a whole other pen..
HDR gets way too bright!
