00:08 Hemifacial spasm is characterized by involuntary twitching of facial muscles, often triggered by stress or fatigue, affecting about 8 to 11 individuals per hundred thousand, commonly caused by blood vessels compressing cranial nerves.
02:24 Facial spasms can cause discomfort, impaired vision, and cosmetic deformity, leading patients to seek treatment through history, physical exams, and consultations with neurosurgeons or neurologists.
04:43 Treatment options for hemifacial spasm include medications, botox injections, or surgery, each with its own benefits and drawbacks. Surgery, specifically microvascular decompression, is the most effective way to address the root cause of the problem.
07:04 Surgery for ami facial spasm is safe and effective, with 85 to 90 percent of patients becoming spasm-free. The surgery provides excellent outcomes and quality of life for patients.
It has been over 20 yrs since my first diagnosis. Botox was offered at the time, I chose to not do that.
The nerve damage is a lot worse now. I continue to live on with it. I do not have health insurance any longer. Some days are good others not so good.

Hello Doctor,
Thank you so much for sharing information about Hemi facial!
I had the MVD surgery about 5 weeks ago, and my spasms have subsided about 75%. I am just curious if the Teflon was placed and it got separated the nerve from touching the blood vessels, why there are still residual spasms after surgery? Could you explain little bit about it? Thank you!
L been having it for 4 year on my surgery is for September 30 they give medicine botox and is getting worse my neurologist say l have to have surgery 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

Doctor
Is there any side effects if any surgery is required?
Means Those who have taken Botox injection 7-8 times should not go for surgery ??
Hi Sir How to contact you...pls let us know..
How much the cost of the MVD operation?
I have it and I wish you took my insurance.
How can you differentiate between med-induced spasm, and compression? What if MRI doesn’t show compression but still have symptoms? I have TN and hemifacial spasm symptoms, but my neuro says my hemifacial spasms are unusual because they last so long? And are more intense and sustained than usual.
My father has been suffering with this for almost 3 years. Getting worse. Affecting his sight.
He has tried medication and Botox. Helped just a little bit.
We live in Nashville TN. So you recommend a Doctor in this area?

Hi sir how to contact you pls let me know thanks
I’ve been having on and off twitching, for maybe 2 years now. I’m pretty sure it started on the left side but it’s now on the right side. I hate the fact most say it will only get worse. I’m gonna seek out a neurologist. Did you mean ear or eye @2:21?
Hi, how have you been going on, how’s the twitching and what did u do to get rid of it , mine go and come back
@@iuhnew it still comes and goes. I’m hoping it’s just stress related.
@@iuhnew I haven’t been to a neurologist yet.
@@barbarasaunders2160 hi barbara do you twitch in all parts of your face like lips, eyes, cheeks, or is it just the eye? do you have it constantly?
@@bharatikumar4519 just mostly the eye. I haven’t noticed it anywhere else. It’s very sporadic, not often at all.
No Botox
Suffering from this kind of illness is really embarassing...😭
Bottox is just a temporary relief from twitching for just few months....and the side effect is even worst...because it affects the facial appearance every time i smile😭...it's a curse....
We don't have surgery here in the philippines
