  • The coagulase test is commonly used by microbiologists to assist in the rapid identification of Staphylococcus aureus. Coagulase is a bacterial enzyme that converts fibrinogen to fibrin, resulting in blood clotting. Because bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus have coagulase bound to their surface, they can disguise themselves as a blood clot, thus preventing phagocytosis by white blood cells.

Muito interessante, mas vocês realizam a técnica fora da capela de fluxo laminar? Não existe risco biológico?

Ideally, we'd do everything in a laminar flood hood! However, if you don't have one in your lab or facility, a clean bench, sterilized surface. There's always an inherent sterility risk, as there is with everything microbiological, but with careful QC and technique, the risks can be mediated.
