I could never get bored of looking at pics and film of the earth from space.
So poetic! Thank you, @bluedotdweller. This is beautiful. Every word is true.
That photo of McCandless floating untethered above Earth is the greatest photo of all time and always will be, in my opinion.
It may sound strange or unbelievable, but I think I experienced something similar to the overview effect. I’ve been interested in astronomy and cosmology ever since I was a small child. I would watch Carl Sagan talk about the wonders of the universe on TV. When I was about 12 I had a dream that I was on the moon looking at the earth. I had this overwhelming feeling of how small and precious we are, and it changed the way I see humanity. Even 37 years later it still gives me chills. I wonder if that’s similar to what astronauts feel.
Always look forward to your videos! My favorite space content creator for sure
Thanks so much!
YES! Thank you for continuing to help me explore!! ❤️
Yay! Space ASMR is back! Thanks bluedot dweller.
A great video. Our beautiful planet.
Eloquent essay. Thank you!
Every presentation is just as good or better than the last. I think the overview effect is real. It might end a few wars if people could see how connected we really are. Thanks Blue Dot Dweller. This episode could’ve been named after you. 💫🌒🌎
Lovely, thank you
Fantastic footage - thank you.
Beautiful video!
This is anecdotal and unverifiable, but I identify as the sort of person who would ~delight~ in watching the Earth shrink to a point-like object. In that experience I feel I would find my truest self, and I would gladly give my life to a one-way Mars mission in order to experience it.
Fate and the timing of my birth have denied me my shot at traveling to Mars. Still, I must represent a certain percentage of the adult population. There must be others like me who would find solace in the void, and purpose in any one-way mission to other worlds.
I think this is a very interesting perspective, but I can't help but feel like it would just get very lonely and boring a few months in. And it would literally be months of floating in nothing. It's hard to imagine, the closest analogue I could think of is sailors at sea for months, and they mostly didn't have a great time. Then again, they were also mostly not literate and didn't have access to the amount of knowledge and entertainment we have.
I would love to see earth from above, it’s travelling to space that I don’t like, it scares me knowing how dangerous it is to get there but once there, it would be so worth it!
Thanks, that was great! I can tell that you work hard on your scripts,; they are very well-written. I wonder, do some people experience the equivalent by looking at photos of earth from space? I don't think I do, but do others?
I wouldn't say an equivalent, but photos of Earth from space have been one of the things that gave rise to the environmental movements since the 1960's, so some people definitely feel some kind of overview effect, though it can't be the same like actually going to space and seeing for yourself.
as non native English subscrabed cuz nice content, never readed nickname .now did .such apropriate.🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Barring a technology for instantaneous displacement on at least an interplanetary scale, with no time lost to distance or dilation, I’d never want to leave Earth. It’s a natural paradise, it’s full of people to connect with, and it’s home. We belong here, we don’t belong anywhere else.
We’d have to build a new Earth to live well away from here. That, or reconstitute ourselves as something more adaptable than human.
Hello universe...greetings from our Pale Blue Dot.
I recently heard an idea that I really like, that all prime ministers or presidents would need to experience the overview effect before gaining power, so that they are more, internationally nice.
Yeah, I don't think humans could cope being disconnected from earth, regardless of psychological training. Unless they landed on some other earthlike planet after long sleep. You can't just suppress a billion years of evolution, even with medication.
@@No_OneV space travel is a LOT more complicated than people might think
@@bluedotdweller Oh yes, that's why I'm sceptical of UFOs being aliens.
Awe inspiringly sexy.. so well put.. words so well placed.. you've struck nerves too small to detect.. I thank youu.. Beautiful person.. 🤗🙏🫵😘☝️🦍🍻🥊♟️
I've heard it takes 7 nukes now to destroy the blue planet. In terms of galactic time, it will have existed for a blink of an eye. Knowing megamanics w/ their finger on the N button.. I'm surprised we are still
Are you related to Mikomi Hokina? You look like her and you’re both Belgian.
I've honestly never heard of her, so no, I don't think we're related:D
