What I love even more than his incredible ability on the instrument is that you can see how much he enjoys what he does! Very few people can say that they make a living doing what they love!
@amrein I am pretty sure this comment just shows that you are oblivious to the fact that musical eras do not just start, they are transitioned into. I do not remember too many middle age pieces that have so many variations.
I realize DPP is a big advocate of the Bb/F/G/Eb tuning these days, but this horn look an awful lot like a Bb/F/Gb/D horn with the Gb slide pushed in. Which I can't even imagine getting a middle if the staff D with in first (like Blair Bollinger's tuning). Idk, curiosity killed the cat I guess. Just wondering.
@amrein its also that different people have different tastes in music. No need to bag on something just because you dont like it. Also I dont pertically like modern stuff, I like performing which is kind of wierd =). But we dont go on your vids and make fun of why it sounds that way. Just different prefances. Just get along with everyone =)
I find your value judgment of this music disappointing. People like the music they like. From your videos, I think you of all people would understand this. To answer your initial question, the reason for such a piece is that it is an ENCORE. Go to 5:15 and you will hear the reason for this piece.
Do you expect him to pay many thousands of dollars for an instrument with triggers and then seldom use them? That's like saying someone is "getting lazy" for using a remote instead of getting up and walking every time they wish to change the TV's volume
The pinnacle of technical perfection
John Waoi obviously
John Waoi Whole video perfectly summed up in 5 words.

If someone didn’t know who Paul was, they’d see this video and think, “wow, I didn’t know Charlie Sheen could play an instrument like that!”.
My friend offered to let me have his Bass Trombone after the Spring concert. I'm so taking a fling at this piece.
Fantastic! What a range!
"BOOOH" *Pedal F*
lol
1:03 and 2:02 got me like 🤯😧. This guys is a complete beast.
I was reading along with a musescore transcription of this and the singing caught me off guard 😂 This is peak bass trombone playing.
Brilliant OMG what a range, technique and entertaining !
blue bells of scotland at 3:51

Amazing bass trombone playing!!
Bravo bravo bravo maestro!!!
I believe he was playing an Edwards at that point.
Loved it !
Just amazing

AttackTurkey1 exactly
Charlie Sheen has made quite the transformation
@amrein so your just saying that you should keep up with main stream music in order to stay up to date sort of thing?

5:09 LOL!
The only person I've seen preform this piece better is Charlie Vernon. Bravo!
What is the name of this piece?
Barnacle Bill the Sailor by Steven Frank
Thank you!
Good 😅
This song makes for nice circus music.
Winning! 2Mrboyman!
At 3:41 how is that even possible. Anyone?
What was that at 4:14?
Multi-phonics
Playing one note and humming another note at the same time
What model horn is he playing?
Josh Omaits it looks like a Bach strad
It's an Edwards. Paul is now a Courtois artist. While most bass trombonists have their valves in F and Gb, Paul has his in F and G.
Who wrote this?
I never had sax but i played a trombone once..
What's he doing at4:20??
Andrew Tripoli multiphonics
Andrew Tripoli weed
just hum while playing. Do it on a mouthpiece first then translate that into the instrument. Pretty easy.
He looks a bit like the villain from James Bond Casino Royale. The one with the inhaler. Plays fantastic though. Haha
Josh Omaits, looks like a villain, plays like a hero.
@amrein I think your trying to please other people, not yourself, play music that you want to experiance/like, its not about what other people want.
Dude looks so young 🤭
He was probably late 30’s here. He’s late 40’s-50 now.

He gets a little lazy with the triggers

@@dyllonross3714 I disagree with his use of triggers but if it sounds good then that is all that is important
If he’s lazy, then why is he one of the world’s greatest trombonists? That would not happen if he were lazy about any aspect of his playing.
