Hi Ibrahim! Gain is the "technical volume" so to say. That means the volume before going in the effect chain. Some analog gear or emulation of analog gear need a certain input to work. Thus, you need to make sure that the technical volume before the effect chain is correct and also the artistic volume at the end. All the best, Daniel.
you're the only one who has the "Room" treated acoustic video on youtube been trying to see how people treat their rooms for voice overs that isn't a closet or a small room that looks like a closet, thank you!

WOW! I've got an SM7B but I never thought of using that moving blanket set to enhance my voice recording. I'm thinking of getting that set in the near future.
Is the microphone worth it? And do you think I can use a 3.5mm TRRS to XLR adapter and connect it to a phone? I'm looking to get the new Sony Xperia 1 iii and adding this mic to it for youtube?
@@fightsandfinance7570 It's absolutely worth it. But here's got a problem for you since the SM7B is a well known microphone with very low signal, which means if you're using this mic, you'd better need a mic pre-amp for it. But your phone's not capable of giving phantom power to the mic pre-amp to work. So...it's not a good choice for your phone.
@@fightsandfinance7570 I second what KurokiD said and will suggest (for a phone set up as it needs to phantom power,) SM57 with the A81WS windscreen and it will give you a really close sound to the 7B on a budget for podcasting $100 for the SM57 and $30 for the Large body windscreen. This set up is confirmed to work with an adapter to a smartphone. (used personally for some early podcast connected to an iphone, xlr to usb, plugged into a iphone usb3 camera adapter while plugged into a power source)
1st thing I noticed is all mics had more proximity effect and were louder in general when the moving blankets were used. The Soyuz Bomblet was the best more round sound, the SE 2200 was the loudest and I heard some plosives. The SM7B was in the middle more rounded and smoother than SE2200 but not as smooth as Soyuz!
SE 2200 w blankets sounded best to me, though that signal would probably need some low end roll off/multiband comp to deal with the proximity effect. Honestly surprised at how good all 3 mics sounded just centered in the room. My bedroom is 10x more noisy (near busy roads) and reflective.
If money wasn't a problem, I'd pick the Bomblet with the blankets. Doesn't cut the highs as the 7b and doesn't over excite it like the sE2200. The reflection filter cut a lot of low end compared to blankets though
Reflection filter gave it a coning type of sound but the blankets gave a warm in your face presence which i agree the bomblet worked well and in some parts the sm7b sounded good on some variations to the hook
Moving blankets really did make a noticeable difference. Damn, I really gotta re-record all my lyrics, after I make a makeshift fort with blankets and sheets and whatever else I can find.

Apologies for not explaining this in the video. The SM7b is a great dynamic microphone, however its output is quite low and the Cloudlifter allows you to get more gain out of the SM7b to get the proper levels going into your preamp and into your DAW. There are other options like the sE Dynamite that achieve the same thing. Hope this helps clarify!
Why is there a pop filter on a SM7B? Seems like that's going to deaden the consonants too much? You'll end up having to put an exciter at the end of a plugin chain.
Hi! Great question. This came down to this particular song and his vocal. While you typically don't need a pop filter on the SM7b, we found that with this more aggressive style vocal take, it needed just a bit more help to tame his plosives. If it were just a softer, singing vocal, we probably would not have needed it.
