Hi Ken, welcome to the Free State of Florida! My wife and I have lived in Florida for just over 2 years, and we are both originally from New York. We will always be New Yorkers but Florida is our new home and we really love it. I totally get the "Florida-smell" you are talking about. I also grew up going to Disney with my family and grew up knowing that when I got a hit of that smell that I was truly "home." My wife did not grow up going to Disney, so I have been introducing her to it. We live about 2 hours from Disney and one recent evening we were in our lanai (outdoor room) and she said "It smells just like Port Orleans in Disney." So there definitely is a special aroma here in Florida. We do have a good amount of Canadians who snowbird down here too. I am sure they are chasing rays and fleeing ice.

Glad to see you are safe after staying in the Arlington area! Not the safest but not the worst. I use to pass by that Candlewood Suites off Merril all the time and it looks pretty good for the price. Hope you enjoyed my hometown!

Not sure why someone would recommend you eat Cuban food in Jacksonville. South Florida is known for its Cuban food; Jacksonville isn’t really known for any type of cuisine.

I love Florida! All of my mom's side of the family still lives in Jacksonville. I would love to live there! I used to go every summer to visit when I was a kid it was so much fun!

Hey Ken, I live here in Jax. I'm sure you already have your restaurants mapped out but I see you walked past a Bono's BBQ, they have good ribs and turkey. I'm from Tampa where Cuban food is abundant and delish! it's very hard to find good Cuban food in Jacksonville. A good place for breakfast Metro Diner or First Watch. You mentioned the smells an early spring the orange trees start to blossom and it is intoxicating! 🍊 Hope you enjoy your stay!
've lived all over the country, but the largest share was in Jacksonville. Jacksonville historically has some unpleasant or unusual smells in a couple of places. The paint and paper mills don't smell very nice, but I'm not sure how many are still in operation today. The Anheuser-Busch brewery smelled nice if you like the hops/beer smell, but not if you don't. I haven't lived in Florida since around 2007, though, so who knows what's changed. As for the general pleasant Florida scent, I agree. I think it's a combination of all the trees and the flowers, which are abundant.
Oh yes! I work close to a paper mill here in Jax and the smell is awful at times.

It's the ocean winds coming across the state that keeps the air cleaner...most of the time.
Yes is a a nice like humidity fresh smell or something.But the best Florida smell for me is the lobby when you walk into the Polynesian Resort.Immediately brings me back to staying there in 1972 so beautiful. I don’t know how my dad afforded it😂 I won’t even pay for it now.We stay at the Swan and Dolphin and go to Polynesian at night and get burgers by the pool area😂

If you like pleasant smells, don't visit Northern NJ. I remember many times my father driving us somewhere on the highway and suddenly we would have to roll up the windows. I love "down the shore" though and the smell of the ocean.

I haven’t travelled much but I was in Jacksonville in 2019. I was hoping I’d see some familiar locations but I don’t think we stayed in the same area.

Your right ken. Florida definitly has a scent to it. I think your on the right track with the trees and flowers idea. Add in higher humidity and that would do it. I'm currently in Massachusetts and can't wait for my annual trip to Florida in March. Have a great time. Stay safe!

I’m Canadian and hate Florida. California is far better. Florida is flat as an ass and boring. Disclaimer I’ve only been to St. Petersburg, Tampa, Clearwater west Palm Beach. The latter was the best.
