Jim Murphy (that some may know from Matt Colville's interview with him) has a few videos about how to touch up and improve pre-painted mini's with a bit of ink and dry-brushing.
Unfortunately, I think anything pre-painted isn't going to be great, or it's going to be really expensive. I do agree with you that these don't seem great value for money etiher, but you're likely also paying premium for the branding.

4:54 that pit fiend's weapon is bent 90 degrees into his own face. To be fair though, if someone had painted my teeth to look like Donkey from Shrek then I'd probably be trying to smash them out myself too.
I don't want to be too down on these miniatures - I think they are great for players that have money to burn, are not necessarily into painting themselves and just want some random models to throw down and dress up their DnD games - but good lord I just find everything about them ghastly. They look like someone sculpted them with blu-tac and a soup ladle, the paint job is horrendous, the super-glued bare bases look awful. It boggles my mind that people are prepared to pay good money for these things, more so that they are paying for blind boxes and have no idea which one of these shambles they are going to get.
Isn't it cheaper to buy 5 miniatures and paint them yourself? Even if you have never picked up a paintbrush before, I believe ANYONE could do a better job of painting miniatures (or at least match the paintjob this company happily splat all-over their pre-painted range).

To be fair the initial larger figures you unboxed were decent but those smaller humanoid figures were really rough both in sculpt and especially in the paint job department. Also looking at the way those things were just glued to the bases so haphazardly grinds my gear. At 12.50 a box your paying about 3 bucks per figure and that doesn't include shipping. If your desperate and need to quickly throw some figures on a table this might do it for you but man if you own any decent quality figures these will stand out and not in the good way(especially now where enthusiast 3d print the damn things in resin with spectacular results). But it all boils down to Time, Quality, Cost where you can only pick two, so for certain people this is a good option to have available.

I'm honestly not sure I'd use these if for free...I'm looking at my old metal minies and heck, they are at times 30 years old but the level of details is a completely different league.

Boy Wizkids. I really thought that the original Monster Menagerie set was going to mean a higher quality release schedule. However, I just think they are trying to get too many sets out too quickly and the quality is not consistent. There are some good sculpts in this set but they need to be touched up! This really stinks for people who don't have the time to paint their miniatures. I am going to check out the new Pathfinder release tomorrow but I don't have super high hopes. I dunno if any 3rd party people are going to try to produce prepainted stuff. I know reaper dabbled in it and some of those miniatures were cool. Dungeon Crawler put out some good stuff but I don't know how financially successful that line was. I will keep my eyes and ears out for any other 3rd party prepainted releases.
Consider the original Pathfinder prepainted "Beginner Box Heroes" pack! Wizkids can do higher quality products! I mean if it's the different between paying $2.50 per miniature and $3.50 per miniature then maybe they just can't cut the costs anymore.

@@witchBoi_Connor I can totally get that, if you're new to the game and don't want to paint for whatever the reason. The problem that I still don't get is why it's a blind buy?
If I want a mini or minis, it's for a reason and I went specific ones. If I wanted to collect them then I'd certainly want better quality than this crap. I just don't get why people buy these blind.

As someone who has experience with state audit programs, NEVER mention that you don't pay tax on purchases either online or from over seas. That will instantly flag you for an audit because there is something known as Use Tax that customers have to pay whenever a business doesn't charge Sales Tax. I would edit this video honestly to remove that last portion. Just because you didn't pay taxes, doesn't mean taxes aren't due. @Taking20

I bought and opened the same brick yesterday! I did get Jarlaxle !! I also reallyw anted him and was stocked to get him. Also looted the Xanathar, complete with his rings on his stalks and his smug face. I'm envious of your Griphon Rider ! And your Annis Hag is different than mine. Mine has no lightning bolt spell on it, but he his holding a skull head in his left hand.

Going to skip this line, the quality on the molds and the painting just isn't up to par with what they released previously. If Wizards doesn't want to do their own minis anymore they could just let Repear do them for them. I don't mind painting my own.

  • @hailrengaming4703
    @hailrengaming4703 5 лет назад

I think because these are mass produced in large quantities it would be really hard to get really good quality paint jobs on such a high count of figures. But you could even go for cheap reaper bones figures for like $2.00 and paint them with even some cheap Acrylics and get a better outcome. But with that price would get some metal figures and some Valehjo paint and a few washes.

I'll agree with the comments that these aren't the best looking D&D minis, but they were still fun to see get pulled. I know the upcoming Ravnica minis are a bit better quality.

@taking20 Hey, I just wanted to say that you are the most positive roleplay channel I've ever seen. It's really nice to see someone just being enthusiastic and having a good time. So many other channels are really over-assertive with their opinions and smack-talk different player-tastes.
I'm glad to have someone who is purely constructive and actually makes me happy to watch, rather than someone hostile.

The only minis I buy are the Nolzurs ones where you can actually see what you're getting. i made the mistake of buying the "Wrath of the Giants" board game for some sweet giant minis and the paint job on them is terrible. I could have done a better job on them and I barely know how to wash. Even the quality of these minis is terrible, looks like what you would get out of a quarter machine at a supermarket.
