Thank you for posting these! As a new grad and aspiring surgeon going into an internship this year, I can't say how helpful these cases are to think about and bring the texts to life. Thank you for bringing a sense of practicality to education and practice!

Thank you for helping stray pets by fostering them; you are truly making a difference in their lives. I have tried to foster pets myself but I failed each time (I ended up keeping the pets permanently😊). Fingers crossed for this little kitten. I know the fracture will heal, hopefully it will heal in a functional way. Let us know how this kitten does please!

Could you provide how to make stiffening dressing for it? Do you have any video regarding this case? We're struggling with it. The orthopedist ordered the dressing to be changed three days after the procedure and the position of the leg to be changed from straight to bent so that the muscles would not grow into the bone in the wrong place. We can't go to the doctor in charge because he is too far from us and we have to do this procedure ourselves. This is stray kitten 6/7weeks old.

Hi, that is a tough one because this is a tough bandage to apply and can cause issues. But if the kitten is 6/7 weeks old, this fracture is likely partially healed by now. If you can't see a vet to change the bandage and it sounds like the kitten has had surgery then maybe just place him/her in a crate for a few weeks to prevent activity and too much weight bearing. Consider starting some physio to help establish motion in the elbow joint within a few weeks (?). I have not seen the x-rays or examined the kitten but from your comment I am assuming it is a humeral fracture that may or may not affect the elbow joint(???). If you can maybe just speak with the orthopedist and explain your situation, he/she would be able to best advise you on this. Good luck and thank you for helping this little stray kitten.

I have a cat who got a broken arm from a fall cuz he was fighting my other cat, and i didnt want to amputate because he was still young and i was told they heal really good like you said but now that its been close to a year, he walks fine and plays around normal, but the only problem is he shakes that part of the arm a little bit, i dont know if maybe hes cold cuz it only shakes when hes sleeping or is that shaking bad ? Should i go to a vet ?

Thank you for your comment. Firstly, I am glad that your cat is doing well and that he still has his leg. I am not sure why he is shaking that part of the leg, especially when sleeping. This is an interesting observation but I am not sure it is an issue. You don't describe that he is chewing at the leg or showing signs of pain, so that is good. Maybe just ask your vet to take a look the next time you go in for vaccines or another reason.
